Young dairy calves (arriving ~3 days old from multiple states) stay in individual plastic hutches for the first ~90 days to limit disease and enable individual feeding/monitoring.
People are retarded, these are poddy calves from dairy cows, they are removed from the mother and hand raised, easier to feed 5000 calves than to have them all feeding from troughs, when they are old enough they will be put to pasture.
