"Impress the wife" is a retarded take, no married man is like that. Almost definitely whatever she yelled was exaggerated and the dude just reacted - like an ape - before finding out what he actually did

Actually, in reality, there are men who do try to impress their wives.

Men whose wives do not respect them.

Men whose wives are unhappy with them for certain reasons.

Men who did something wrong to the wife.

Men who are afraid of their wives.

Men whose wives have indicated a desire to leave them.

Men whose wives have given up on them (perhaps the relationship too).

Men whose wives are ready to leave them.

The list goes on.

There are as many possibilities as there are couples.

These men can end up over-correcting in the endeavour to impress and 'win back' their wives.
