During my visit to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), I also had the pleasure of meeting the world-renowned Armenian-American economist and Nobel laureate in Economics, Professor @DAcemogluMIT.
I have known Daron since my student years. From our very first interaction, I realized that I was dealing with a scholar of exceptional integrity and a deeply responsible educator. In 2013, Daron was already a globally recognized academic, while I was an ordinary student at the American University. At the time, I decided that I wanted to discuss one of my macroeconomics course assignments with him. Although I hardly expected a reply, I sent him an email.
To my surprise, despite his demanding schedule and the global attention he was already receiving, he not only responded but also continued our correspondence with remarkable care and generosity, offering thoughtful advice to a student he had never even met in person.
Today at MIT, Daron and I warmly recalled that story. We discussed Armenia’s progress in recent years, the evolving agenda between Armenia and the United States, as well as Daron’s new book, What Happened to Liberal Democracy?, which will be published next week.
