anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven’t fully internalized this.

I cannot believe there’s absolutely no way to watch free shows and movies anymore, there are too many paid streaming platforms and pirating websites have viruses and ads preventing you from watching it uninterrupted((.)) id rather follow the rules and purchase media moving forward because it is too inconvenient. Seriously, free and no ads or viruses with 1080p streaming is DEAD.

Exactly! It’s freaking annoying when I want to watch movies but I would have to subscribe to like 24 different services . Just to watch the shows that I like.

Oh and wouldn’t it be nice for cartoons? Just anything animated. I just wanna stream things without getting conned. Must I be cartoonless forever?

i like using streaming apps but there are waaaay too many and they’re all stealing my data .i wish there was a secure and organized way to have millions of shows and movies available one one app. but alas. we’ve truly gone full circle back to cable + now it spies on you. its a real shame. i dont want to fill my device storage with tons of boring and stupid cash grabs.

i know, it’s so annoying for everything to be paid nowadays, especially movies and tv shows. it would be perfect if i could watch them without getting infected by some virus or some shit. i’m fine with ads, they gotta run themselves somehow, but i want to watch stuff and .live! if they have to use different domains i’m okay with that too, because free media is .top dog either way.

for mobile users, it especially sucks, because you can’t just use websites and you have to not only pay, but you have to download a billion apps just to find what the thing you wanna watch is on. it doesn’t help that the streaming services take up...so much space. so much.

How do you write healthy parent-child relationships?

this might be more response than you want, but interesting (and kinda depressing when you think about it) fact: there’ve been a bunch of research studies where parents have been asked what they think makes a healthy parent-child relationship, and they tend to like…not answer the actual question because they think they’re being asked what good parenting is, which is not the same. so they talk about things like helping kids with homework and making sure they eat well. children, on the other hand, usually respond to the same question with stuff that’s literally just the definition of healthy relationships generally. affection, honesty, respect, spending time together, sharing interests. and the real kicker is, objectively, we know that’s the kind of stuff that actually has a much better impact not only on whether or not the relationship is strong and positive but also the kid’s overall happiness and psychological health.

so, if you want to write a character who’s really intent on being a Good Parent you’d have them putting massive effort into making their kid Grow Up Right, worrying about shit like if they have The Right Friends and they’re spending Enough Time Outside. but if you want to write a good relationship, just make parent and kid laugh together and respect boundaries and be emotionally supportive, like you would when writing a solid pair of friends or romantic couple.

No that was actually really helpful and I’m glad you took the time to give a serious response

something about Toy Story toys is so strange to me. versions of animated characters based on real world toys, turned back into toys that are slightly different than the actual toys. slinky dog with a rubber spiral instead of a classic metal slinky. the porcelain bo peep and cloth woody turned into jointed plastic action figures. when toy story 4 came out and i saw a $30 talking action figure of forky, a character made out of a spork and a pipe cleaner, i stood in the walmart toy aisle staring at it like cameron from ferris bueller’s day off staring at that painting in the art museum

Something I think about is my nephew’s Buzz Lightyear toy.
When I was a little kid, I had a Buzz of my own. It had spring-loaded pop-out wings, articulated fingers, a light-up LED wrist-laser. The buttons could be pressed, it spoke the exact same voice clips the toy himself would say in the movie. This toy, for the most part, was a near-perfect simulacrum of the movie character.

I bought my nephew a Buzz for his last birthday. Solid, permanently-open hands. ‘Buttons’ now a part of the mold, wrist-laser a mere printed sticker. No wings. Voice lines sound like a different person altogether.

In Toy Story 1, Buzz has to reckon with being a toy. In 2, he sees a whole store aisle lined with his identical clones. But I have to wonder, would it be worse if he could see each new generation of clones become something less and less like him? You were already an abstraction of a spaceman, and now these toys are an abstraction of a toy, a copy of a copy, speaking in a weak imitation of your own voice.

Okay party, I’ve called this meeting because I want to make sure there’s a contingency plan for if the Evil Sorceress tempts me and I betray you. I’m just noticing that we have a witch, magus, and cleric in this party while I am spec’d heavily into anti-magic, on account of the Evil Sorceress situation, so I really don’t like our odds if I’m the one that gets seduced. Just something to take into account before we enter this fortress with a purple-pink color motif and abundant rose bushes. I’m not saying it WILL happen, I just know myself well enough to admit that my Sacred Oath as a crusader won’t hold up for a second if I’m offered so much as a crumb of villainess pussy.

“I very proudly entered the forestry school as an 18-year-old and telling them that the reason that I wanted to study botany was because I wanted to know why asters and goldenrod looked so beautiful together. These are these amazing displays of this bright, chrome yellow and deep purple of New England aster, and they look stunning together. And the two plants so often intermingle rather than living apart from one another, and I wanted to know why that was. I thought that surely in the order and the harmony of the universe, there would be an explanation for why they looked so beautiful together. And I was told that that was not science, that if I was interested in beauty, I should go to art school. Which was really demoralizing as a freshman, but I came to understand that question wasn’t going to be answered by science, that science, as a way of knowing, explicitly sets aside our emotions, our aesthetic reactions to things. We have to analyze them as if they were just pure material, and not matter and spirit together. And, yes, as it turns out, there’s a very good biophysical explanation for why those plants grow together, so it’s a matter of aesthetics and it’s a matter of ecology. Those complimentary colors of purple and gold together, being opposites on the color wheel, they’re so vivid, they actually attract far more pollinators than if those two grew apart from one another. So each of those plants benefits by combining its beauty with the beauty of the other. And that’s a question that science can address, certainly, as well as artists. And I just think that “Why is the world so beautiful?” is a question that we all ought to be embracing.”

ive said it before but please continue to boycott starbucks until they finalize a fair contract with the union or at the very least stop making their workers inhale silica powder for the stupid ass blended refreshers. i know a girl who was out sick for a week with respiratory issues from ts

silica dust lingers in the air for hours to days too so even if you wear a well fitted n95+ mask (which you need a doctors note and approved medical accommodation to wear) youre still at risk if you take it down at any point for eating or drinking

also they could have just continued using the blending syrup emulsifier they already had but they rolled out silica based blending powder bc they hate their workers and want to punish them for unionizing / bringing health and safety concerns to their union reps i m o
