My 2010 thruxton 900 recently had a similar issue. I was cleaning the chain and knocked the bike over on the stand, bending the shift lever inwards. I couldn't change gears or find N, but slightly bent the lever back out by hand and was able to find all gears again. The next day, i was able to start it for two short rides, then had a no click no start and the fuel light coming on when trying to start later that day. I couldn't bump start it but was able to jump it. I recently tested the battery and it was 12.2v off and 12.5 at idle, and 13.2 at 3-4k RPM. My next step was to charge the battery and retest, but since I am planning to remove the airbox and switch to a lithium battery anyway I'm using it as an excuse to upgrade the battery now. But i wonder if the battery issue is related to the gear shifter issue seeing that you had a similar set of facts.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm honestly new to working on my own bike, I usually take it to a reputable shop, so this was my first real project I did myself. I also noticed the angle of the clip ons was a bit too tight once I rode it and plan to fix it and straighten them out a bit. That said, I went and ran figure eights in a parking lot shortly after setting this up and had no problems with tank clearance while making tight turns.

Can you tell me more about the brake reservoir angle? I can Google myself but if you've got some helpful knowledge, drop it on me.

Thanks!

I actually didn't try. It looks like the amazon spacers have a smaller outer diameter than the stock spacer, so i think the stock one might create a clearance issue with the tank (see last pic). the amazon ones are pretty cheap fwiw

I recently acquired a 2010 Thruxton 900 and will agree that it is not a sporty bike, but man does it feel good to ride. I'm a big fan of the minimal cafe racer aesthetic and philosophy. The Thruxton is great for cruising around town and I have an XSR900 for when i want to rip the canyons.

That said, i do often think about upgrading to a newer 1200 r/RS...

I recently ordered the same kit, did you do the install yourself or go to a shop?

If you did it, any tips or cautions? Also were you able to find any install guides or videos? I tried searching but couldn't find any.

California - Vertical License Plate Issues
California - Vertical License Plate Issues

I am looking into getting a shock mounted vertical license plate bracket for my thruxton 900. I know the CA law mentions "so that the characters are upright and display from left to right" so i know i am giving police an easy reason to pull me over. What i'm wondering is how many people out here have vertical license plates on their bike and are you getting pulled over for it?

I'm usually not doing anything sketchy on this bike that i'd be worried about being added to the fix it ticket, but also not sure i want to deal with getting pulled over and hassled about it if this is happening frequently.

(sorry if this has been posted before, most of what i found was about the law itself. i understand clearly what the law says but want to see what people's experience is)

Have you considered the Yamaha XSR900 (pretty comparable to the Z900)?

I've got a '10 Thruxton 900 and a '25 XSR900. The Yamaha definitely has more power and capacity for more fun, but i hop back and forth between the two all the time.

Just a quick search - from their website, it looks like they only have it for the gen 1 models (https://www.twobros.com/collections/sport/products/yamaha-fj-09-fz-09-xsr900-full-exhaust-two-brothers-racing).

Here's another post where someone fit one on a newer model, but not perfectly since it was designed for the MT-09 (https://www.reddit.com/r/xsr900/comments/vdbzf0/just_installed_two_brothers_exhaust/)

There's SB auto night every other Tuesday at chase Palm park parking lot. There's also motomen SB which meets in front of the mission every Wednesday.

i just recently got a thruxton 900 and i'm in the same boat. I will probably start with some clip-ons, airbox removal, and exhaust. I'm also thinking about a rear shock mounted plate and an integrated brake light/rear blinker (like the new rage cycles one) to clean up the back end.

Repairs before Selling??
Repairs before Selling??

I have a 2018 ktm duke 390 that i am planning to sell since i ended up with two new bikes this summer. The KTM needs new tires, chain & sprocket, rear wheel rotor and bearings. I'm wondering if it's worth fixing any or all or these issues before selling the bike? I am not very mechanically inclined so i would need to take it into a shop to get this work done. I feel like the cost of the parts and the labor would outweigh any potential boost in asking price. Wanted to get some other people's thoughts on this.

Just contacted two other dealers nearby. 1 told me 2024 model available for 8995 + 600 fee (this is discounted) and a 2025 model for 10599 +625 dest fee + 1590 ADM (negotiable). waiting on the other to respond

I was quoted $14,100 over the phone from dealer in CA. Was told about $2k for dealer and freight, the rest being tax, title, and registration. (Caveat: Guy told me he wouldn't be giving me his best price and there was room for negotiation, understandably)
