So unless someone comes up with a means to deal with the liability problems, then a RtR campaign will just be a false promise that shitty politicians throw out or it'll be a very malicious form of legislation that politicians create in order to make slip and fall lawyers rich.

The liability problem has been solved for decades, it's a litigation award cap. Health care and heavy industries hit this problem ages ago, the fix is to say "you can't win more than $500k for suing a hospital". But those caps get shot down very often, because lawyers (the guys who profit from lawsuits) are highly over-represented in politics (the guys who write the laws).

There's also the problem of attorneys' fees being awarded on top of actual/punitive damages. A $500k cap doesn't mean anything if you can tack on a $5 million inflated lawyer bill in the process.

In the specific case of RtR, a manufacturer would want a liability cap before they grant RtR. But they also don't want RtR itself, for many reasons. They're never going to propose a cap as part of a deal because they're the ones fighting the deal. It would take someone with tons of political power to force them to negotiate, at which point they might include caps as part of the deal.

Not really. That would work when dealing with professionals who mess up a repair but it wouldn't stand up in court for consumers. Also, telling people how to fix something can carry with it liability issues if there are bad aftermarket parts available.

The point I'm trying to make is that we, the consumers, are unbelievably retarded and when our retardation gets ourselves or others harmed, we end up suing the companies that believed we could be trusted with information. Unless the legal system changes, this problem will prevent any RtR scheme from working without it just causing endless lawsuits. Hell, good luck with nylon and the fucking moisture hanging the shit off the side of the machine, which you know half these idiots are going to do. And yeah, even PLA can't always handle +/- 5C without stringing and other problems, let alone any other filament that's even more temperamental.

There's also been issues with the induction coils beat to shit because apparently they're smashed into place and soaked with superglue and no care to inspect them before gluing them, with some of the housings ending up cracked in the process and being shipped to customers. I also recall seeing someone state in a video they were happy that once they had installed the indx DIY kit, that the printer was still in square.. because I guess it requires replacing some screws that risk taking the machine out of square? Excuse me? I'd never allow something like this to be put into an environment where it's expected to fucking work(I'd say production, but not actual production, you get what I mean).

And yeah, I'd rather pay half as much for the chineseum minimum wage product that works out of the fucking box, than the overpriced polish minimum wage made product that requires an entire fucking day to assemble, test, and hope no adjustments are needed just because they stuck some fucking gummy bears in the package with notes in the instructions telling me when to eat some and how many(yes, they actually do this, including their $4000 machines).

Of course this is also the same company that sold an enclosure for a printer that consisted of hiking up a bellows sleeve around the machine that still allowed air currents which is no good for materials that require a hotter build plate, are susceptible to warping, or just popping off the plate because someone farted in the room next door.

It'd be like ordering a gaming PC from Dell/HP/Whoever, that came as a fucking DIY kit advertised as a feature, and marketed as belonging in a setting for productivity. It's insane. There's a reason businesses buy shit like formlabs and not anycubic for 1/10th the cost.

Bambu is shoving all of this always-online internet connected shit down people's throats, sending section 1201 DMCA claims to developers who allow you to work without authorizing with their system. I wouldn't be surprised if making bambus as good & cheap as they were wasn't a way to get people sucked into their ecosystem for espionage purposes, so you could see what people were looking to manufacture around the world.
