The developer of Atelier Ryza is working on a mobile chat-based RPG using AI (Artificial Intelligence) for storytelling and navigation.
The new RPG is taking a page from users who utilize AI chatbots to create CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) style stories and creating a framework to go on adventures with Ryza. The game will emphatically not use any AI generated artwork.
No. We do not use any image generation AI. The illustrations are created by hand under the supervision of the original character designer, Toridamono-sensei. Only the “combination of movements” of the materials changes in response to the conversation; the illustrations themselves are not automatically generated.
RyzaChat: AI will feature an open-ended adventure that responds to the user’s input. Rather than a scripted adventure, players will be able to react openly to any situations, guiding Ryza through their conversation.
This isn’t the first game to utilize AI for storytelling. Last year’s Whispers from the Star is a similar open-ended adventure where players are the only ones able to contact a young woman stranded in space.
As a result, the game sits in more of a gray area since no AI art assets are used. LLMs and chatbots have been around longer than image and video generation. What do you think? Is this an ethical use of AI?
