You're missing the forest for the trees if you include The Flash as an example of how this is going to work. The Flash is arguably the furthest example from what they're going to be doing.

This is a crossover with the scale and sheer level of creativity that will make it a generational, one-of-a-kind event. It's going to stand out.

I think that we're still getting Eddie Brock. It's just going to be a take different from both of the previous iterations.

Eddie has a lot of cosmic stuff that they can explore that they haven't touched upon at all, plus there's plenty of dynamics to explore between him and other Marvel characters. We can still get Scorpion-as-Venom as part of this, but they didn't give him a ton of depth in Brand New Day and I don't think that they plan to.

No, I'm saying that the original plan - Spider-Man & Venom - wasn't gonna draw in this audience and might've actually tanked this franchise's long-term prospects. The "Spider-Man + Marvel guest stars" approach has consistently worked for both Sony and Marvel and they'll keep going for it after Destin Daniel Cretton wanted that approach for his movie.

Shadow King has Arab heritage, and Denzel Washington doesn't, so I don't think so. He's probably playing a Black Panther villain and not an X-Men villain. I like to imagine that it's going to be Achebe.

Denzel Washington is apparently close to retirement, with Black Panther III likely being one of his last roles. I don't think that they're making him Magneto.

Okay, I see where you're confused. I'm not talking about Marvel. I'm talking about Sony.

There were producers at Sony who transparently wanted to force their SSMU slopfests into the MCU and Tom Holland's iteration of the franchise. (Amy Pascal was not one of them. She has consistently been smart even if she looks/sounds like a crazy person at times.) Kevin Feige, Tom Holland, and Destin Daniel Cretton were not on-board with this at all and wanted to keep the focus on Peter Parker and his journey.

One of the big reasons why we waited so long for Spider-Man: Brand New Day was because they were trying to force this into a fourth or fifth movie. One of the other reasons had to do with the strikes, which resulted in both the creative overhaul on Daredevil: Born Again and delays to the development of the sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home. Lastly, Venom: The Last Dance underperforming was the nail in the coffin for this plan. So we got something better instead because Cretton was able to work wonders on a short timeframe.

Alex said that they're working on another Avengers movie. He wasn't sure if this was another movie in the Doctor Doom duology to make it a trilogy or that they're doing or a separate film. After Kevin Feige said that Avengers: Secret Wars is for sure one film, I think it's the latter.

If I've read his teases right, then I think they're going to do a Earth/Cosmic story that brings the Celestials and Eternals back to Earth, likely with the Guardians of the Galaxy in tow, and use that to completely readjust things after Eternals didn't work like it needed to. I get the feeling that they might tie them back into their roots by connecting them to the X-Men and Fantastic Four instead of whatever the hell the "immortal robots" take that didn't work was.

Yes! Crossovers that people cared about, like the Raimi and Webb characters with the Watts characters, or another send-off to the Fox era with a few surprise guests. Demonstrably nobody wanted crossovers with the SSMU characters. Venom was the only exception and his movies weren't good - associating that with the Spider-Man movies would've been a bad call.

I think that they'll scratch that itch in Avengers: Secret Wars in some way, shape, or form, but otherwise that's it. We're not getting a full-blown movie between Toms Holland and Hardy. We're likely getting a new take on Venom at some point in this trilogy.

I do think that we'll get Spider-Man spin-offs from Sony, but Marvel will have input in them and they will be set in the Nu-MCU. Basically what they should've done back when they first hashed out the Spider-Man deal for the MCU in the first place.

Neither.

Supergirl is a good, flawed movie that just didn't completely come together perfectly. If it did, then I think it would've found some success despite not being a heavily-demanded movie from the outset.

Deadpool & Wolverine was a crossover that people genuinely wanted, and Marvel largely let the creative team on that movie do what they wanted. They made a good, safe movie that helped restore confidence in the brand at a time that that was most needed.

Funnily enough, Sony did have solo movie plans for both. Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which featured Mysterio and Electro respectively, are big reasons why neither materialized at Sony - and they made money. Marvel wanted Kraven for one or two of their movies and Sony's insistence on making Kraven the Hunter happen killed both instances - and it did not make money. I think they've learned a valuable, profitable lesson here.
