All the rescuable Reploids located in Blizzard Wolfgang's stage are named after characters from other Capcom franchises. Rescued Reploid #14 is named "Dante" after the Devil May Cry protagonist.
Devil May Cry 5[]

March 8, 2019
One of the extra Devil Breaker arms available by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of Devil May Cry 5 is a replica of the Mega Buster, Mega Man's primary weapon in the classic Mega Man series. The weapon can only be obtained if the player buys the Deluxe Edition or the separate add-on DLC for the weapon on its own, making it appear in Nico's store where it can be bought for 1000 Red Orbs.
The Mega Buster is a perfect copy of the original weapon as seen in the Mega Man series, albeit obviously presented in a more realistic style. While this kind of interaction would be listed as a Type 1 link since the buster is fully functional, Nico's notes on the weapon establishes that she created this Devil Breaker by being inspired by the video game character Mega Man. While there's no Weapon Report in-game, unused text for one can be found through hacking, and it further establishes that she created it as a tribute to a superhero of her childhood who could change his arm into many weapons.
- Nico's Note (from the "The Art of Devil May Cry 5" artbook) reads: "I could say that this inspired piece a' engineerin's good for the Earth because it's solar-powered, but who am I kiddin' here? This badass arm cannon was inspired by one of my FAVORITE games out there - Mega Man! It gives Nero a little space as it launches charges blasts of light - solar goddamned bullets from a distance. It'll punch a hole in steel, crush boulders and wreak havoc on a demon's intestinal tract."
- The unused Nico's Weapon Report reads: "When I was a kid, there was this superhero who'd fight evil by changing his arm into all kinds of weapons. Man, I loved that little fella! Heck, I might not even be here helping ya today if not for that scrappy little guy. Anyway, this arm is a tribute to the arm of that noble hero. A spitting image, if I do say so myself. Think you got what it takes to rock it, man?"
These texts establishes that, while the Mega Buster is a functional weapon, it was created based on Mega Man as a fictional video game character, thus establishing this interaction as being a Type 2 link instead of a Type 1 as it would be otherwise. The text also notes the weapon is solar-powered, which goes in line with how the original Mega Buster works.
Mega Buster[]
Once obtained, the player can equip Nero with the Mega Buster like any other Devil Breaker arm, and use it in battle. The Mega Buster is a simple weapon with only two main attacks:
- Mega Shot - The basic shooting attack, Nero shoots yellow bullets consecutively from the buster. This replicates Mega Man's basic shot and its iconic yellow round bullets or "lemons" as the fans call them. Nero can shoot it while standing idle or running, and when moving he fully extends the buster arm forward in much the same way Mega Man does when shooting. If left idle a charge builds up on its own over time, and when full it allows Nero to shoot a more powerful single bullet shot. While this seems like an original move, it does resemble the first level charge shot Mega Man uses in Mega Man 4, the only instance where the weaker charged shot is yellow.
- Mega Charge Shot - Done by holding the shoot button for a while, charging energy until Nero starts glowing with energy. Once released, Nero shoots a large blue energy projectile forward, much stronger than the basic shots. This is one of Mega Man's defining skills, the ability to charge his Mega Buster was first introduced in Mega Man 4 and used in almost all his subsequent appearances. The form it takes (a large blue orb of energy) is the most recurring form the Charge Shot takes in most Mega Man games.
Equipping the Mega Buster also changes a number of Nero's animations to match Mega Man: starting a mission with it equipped has Nero teleport in via a pillar of blue light, just like Mega Man does at the start of each stage. His side dodge changes from a roll to a slide, referencing Mega Man's Slide, a move he has since Mega Man 3. Nero's jump changes its pose to match Mega Man's jumping sprite, and his death animation has him kneel down before exploding into a set of glowing yellow orbs radiating outwards, once again in the same fashion to Mega Man's classic death animation.
Mega Man X DiVE March 2023 maintenance[]
March 08, 2023
As part of a collaboration with the Devil May Cry series, two special variants for X and Zero were added as playable characters or "Hunter Program": x Dante Trigger and Zero Vergil Trigger. These are X and Zero using special armor and powers based on the Devil Trigger forms of Dante and Vergil from Devil May Cry 5.
X Dante Trigger[]

X Dante Trigger was the first release of the two. In this form, X sports an armor design based on Dante's Sin Devil Trigger transformation introduced in Devil May Cry 5, sporting the fiery chest, red coat and Dante's white hair. X wields technological equivalents of Dante's Devil Sword Dante and his guns Ebony and Ivory. These aren't equippable weapons, though, and are only used in his Active Skills.
His official bio reads: "After gaining the power of the half-demon hunter "Dante", "X Dante Trigger" was born. Holding the Sword and Dual Guns obtained from Dante's data, as long as he waved them casually, all the irregular data around him would be instantly wipe out. The moment he flipped the deeply red coat, powerful demonic energy overflowed from his body. Affected by this power, X also showed a weird but attractive expression on his face. Those who were targeted by X's gun will run away in fright. Even the irregular data is enough to cry and beg for forgiveness. "Come on, today's game challenger...it's your turn"."
As the world of Mega Man X DiVE is set in cyberspace and all characters are made of data, this variant was created by X merging with Dante's data, giving him his abilities and powers.
X Dante Trigger's two Active Skills are moves based on Devil May Cry 5:
- X Stinger - X Dante Trigger dashes forward at high speed with his sword pointing forward, performing a powerful thrust strike which is then followed by three homing projectiles in the form of fire waves. All attacks have a chance to cause burn damage to enemies. This is based in two of Dante's moves: Stinger is the thrusting strike he can perform with sword weapons, while the fire waves are based on the move Over Drive, where Dante charges up and then releases three fire waves that home in on enemies.
- X Rainstorm - X jumps up and spins in mid-air upside down while shooting his guns, strafing and raining a shower of fire projectiles all over the area. The move is based on Dante's Rainstorm, an Ebony & Ivory special move he's had since Devil May Cry 2.
X Dante Trigger also possessess a DT Gauge (Devil Trigger Gauge), a yellow bar next to his health that fills up by itself or when attacked. When filled up, X enters into a "Devil Trigger" state momentarily that can't be removed, and it will enhance both Active Skills, increasing the strength and number of attacks.
X Devil Trigger's Passive Skills includes Half-Demon (Reduce damage taken; name is based on Dante's nature as the son of the demon Sparda and human Eva), Devil Form (increase stats of DeviL Trigger state), All-out Barrage (adds six tracking missiles shot during X Rainstorm), Speed Reload (gains acceleration and reduces preparation time for X Stinger) and Unlimited Continuous Attack (gains Healing status when defeating a target and enhances defense). Devil Form will also create 4 phantom sword projectiles while in Devil Trigger state, apparently based on Dante's move Swords Formation, where he has ghostly red swords follow behind him and assist in attacks.
Zero Vergil Trigger[]

Introduced a week later on March 15, Zero Vergil Trigger has Zero wear a special armor designed after Vergil's Sin Devil Triger transformation. Like X, Zero sports the icy blue chest design of the form with scaly armor, Vergil's blue cape and his short hair. He also wields Vergil's Yamato sword as his main weapon, which like X is not an equippable weapon and only used in his Active Skills.
His official bio reads: "This is new form of Zero with the power of human-demon hybrids. He is called "Zero Vergil Trigger" Dressed in a long blue coat, when he hold a lightsaber that look like a attractive Japanese sword, he only need to show his weapon a little bit, and the irregular data will be chopped unconsciously, and he will slowly fall to the ground. When facing the enemy Zero Vergil Trigger's expression was cold more than usual. And wave a saber with blue light kept fighting, just to complete the task he was assigned as soon as possible. Irregular data targerted by Zero Vergil Trigger would not even be given time to cry, because the pure devil will not allow it. "I will only follow the voice of my soul. Bring it on!"."
Just like with X Dante Trigger, this form was created by Zero merging with Vergil's data, gaining his powers and abilities.
Zero Vergil Trigger's two Active Skills are moves from Devil May Cry 5:
- Z Hell on Earth - Zero Vergil Trigger creates an explosion with him at the center that covers a circular range around him. Based on the move of the same name used by Vergil in Sin Devil Trigger.
- Z Judgement Cut End - Zero dashes forward, creating several blue slashes all around him as he strikes the target. One of Vergil's recurring and iconic move, this version replicates the several slashes effect as Vergil attacks at high speed and the shattering glass effect at the end when Zero sheathes Yamato.
Like X Dante Trigger, Zero Vergil Trigger also has a DT Gauge that fills up on its own and when attacked, activating a Devil Trigger state that enhances his Active Skills and stats.
Zero Vergil Trigger's first two Passive Skills are the same one as Dante (Half-Demon and Devil form). His other Passive Skills include Melee Proficiency (increases damage when equipping a melee weapon and gain Healing Enhancement status after defeating a target), Rapid Mobility (raise acceleration and dodge percentage), and Power is Everything (gains a shiled when hit after using Z Hell on Earth and increases damage when equipping two melee weapons). The last one references Vergil's philosophy about power being everything that matters in the world.

Devil May Cry episode The Deep and Savage Way[]

April 03, 2025
In episode 3 of the Devil May Cry animated series by Netflix, "The Deep and Savage Way", Dante is being transported in a prison convoy by agents of Darkcom. At one point the camera focus on the inside of one of the trucks, where a bobblehead figurine of Mega Man is visible on the truck's desk. The figurine is detailed and looks the closest to Mega Man's design in Mega Man 11, at the time the latest entry in the classic series.
