JohnDave is the slash ship between John Egbert and Dave Strider from the Homestuck fandom.
Canon[]
John and Dave are shown to be very close friends throughout the entirety of Homestuck, starting as online friends that messaged each-other thorough an online instant messenger called "Pesterchum" communicating through "pesterlogs", which bears similarity to AOL instant messenger. John having the username "EB" and Dave being "TG"
John and Dave’s relationship stays pretty much the same during the entire comic. It is not known exactly how long John and Dave have been friends, though Dave refers to John and his "number 1 dude for approximately the majority of 13 years". They tease each other about almost everything, but are shown to genuinely care about each other. For his 13th birthday, Dave sends John a stuffed bunny from his favorite movie, Con-Air.
Pre SBURB[]
Before their SBURB session, Dave messages John about John’s copy of SBURB, Dave says how Rose wants to play it and has been bothering him all day about it and keeps "macking" on him and he’s getting embarrassed for her adding on how he doesn’t blame her. John replies by saying, that is understandable, and Dave is very attractive and how he’s attracted to Dave. Dave replies with a thank you, only for John to say ‘jk haha.’ Whether John was actually joking or not is up to interpretation. Although, it’s worth mentioning John has an interest in jokes and pranks, and is often teasing and sarcastic.
John proceeds to reply that he doesn’t have his SBURB copy because his dad has the mail and John has been messing around with his sylladex all afternoon and he’s getting frustrated with it. After a series of questions and Dave laughing at John through text, Dave gives John advice on how to allocate his strife specibus and John ends up with Hammerkind.
Later, Rose messages John since she heard he has a John has a copy of SBURB. John replies by saying ‘that’s an ugly rumor and whoever told you that is a filthy liar and you should stop flirting with him or whatever.’ Jade messages John with a happy birthday message but John isn’t online to see it. Dave sees it and messages John and asks what John did to suddenly be so popular and how did he curry favor with the ladies.'Did you break your leg on a puppy or some shit? dude what are you doing?'
John in joking fashion, says he discovered a comet that is going to destroy Earth and it’s now named after him and now he’s famous and everyone wants to talk to him. Dave groans with a no, stop. and goes on about John’s awful movie tastes and to stop talking about them or referencing them and how John’s man-bro crush on Matt Macconahay is an unsavory thing to behold. They continue talking about actors and movies and John calls Nick Cage 'sweet' Dave disagrees and that’s lame and asks if John likes Nick Cage ironically or for real and continues to laugh and tease John more. John says he does do things ironically sometimes and wonders about the sun glasses he sent Dave for his birthday since that was ironic, Dave says they’re awesome and go back and forth. John wonders if Dave is wearing them right now, to which Dave replies that he’s wearing them, ironically.
Much later, while panicking about the meteor about to hit the Earth and Rose is destroying John’s house. Dave messages John about how he hopes he likes his birthday present for John, the bunny from Con-Air (John’s favorite movie) and tells John to not involve himself with Rose in a bros-before-hoes way.
During SBURB[]
John and Dave play in the same session of SBURB, along with Rose and Jade. Some time into their journey, Terezi tricks John into dying, and Dave has to go back in time to prevent him from getting himself killed.
After initiating the scratch, John is on a meteor for 3 years with Jade, While Dave is on a separate meteor with Rose, the surviving trolls, and Wayward Vagabond.

JohnDave is the third most popular ship under the Homestuck tag on AO3, right below Rosemary. This ship has been relatively popular since the beginning of the comic due to them being very close friends. During act 6, Davekat grew a ton in popularity, while JohnDave went down quite a bit. Despite this, there are still many fans of JohnDave, with fanart and fanfiction continuing to be created for the ship.
