In regards to the previous post, I wanted to explain myself after some reflection. I wrote it during a strong depressive funk that I felt when returning to the website after several years. I wanted to think the account would have remained untouched, but in retrospect I should have remembered posts belong to the world once they’re released. I want to apologize to anyone who I confused or upset with the message, it wasn’t my intention to insult but I suspect my bad mood leaked into my wording.

My emotional reaction to seeing internet activity is probably a good reminder I don’t mix well with social media. I am an emotional person and being exposed to so much tends to be overwhelming for me. DD and I have very different perspectives on the issue, I react by pushing people away while he has always encouraged me to come to a state of acceptance. DD has tried to accommodate my feelings many times in the past, and ended up repeatedly pressured into being my mouthpiece whenever I had a grievance. I’d like to stop making my difficulties his problem. My personal feelings as an individual made me want to respond to the activity I saw upon logging back in, but it’s unrealistic for me to expect complete silence. Among other things I need to work on, I need to learn to deal with the world on its terms rather than trying to correct it.

I’m continuing to learn how to move on from the negative experiences in the past and let them go so I can have happiness in the future. I’ve always had problems with that, and it really is high time I get the skill down. I want to give deepest thanks to everyone who has helped me to get this far. I don’t think I could have made it on my own, so I’m grateful for everyone who has been so patient with me. There is so much I still want to continue to make, and the best way to move forward on those ideas would be to avoid retreading old ground.

YouTube fans unwelcome. I feel the need to explain unambiguously since almost a decade of being outspoken about this still gets ignored after all this time. I haven’t checked my notifications in years since this account was meant to stay up as an inactive archive. Coming back to see people have been continuing to engage with posts that emphasize fandom is horrifying to me, but I recognize I can’t do anything to stop that if the account stays up. I implore you to use your critical thinking, exercise your conscience, and use your common sense in your daily lives. This is Tumblr, a community that purports to be conscientious and empathetic. If you really liked me a person you would listen to the things I say and have said over the years, none of this is new information. Intentionally malicious people will never be swayed by these arguments, but I’m giving most users the benefit of the doubt and trying to communicate as plainly as possible. The blog will remain public for the time being but it has always been my personal digital space and if I decide it isn’t worth keeping it will be deleted.

A former staff engineer, who recently left Tumblr and asked to remain anonymous for professional reasons, tells Vox that the NSFW ban was “in the works for about six months as an official project,” adding that it was given additional resources and named “Project X” in September, shortly before it was announced to the rest of the company at an all-hands meeting. “[The NSFW ban] was going to happen anyway,” the former engineer told me. “Verizon pushed it out the door after the child pornography thing and made the deadline sooner,” but the real problem was always that Verizon couldn’t sell ads next to porn.

Porn on Tumblr is something Verizon needs to wipe out if it’s going to make any money off what it thinks is actually valuable about the platform — enormous fandom and social justice communities that, just before the Verizon acquisition, Khalaf was insisting the staff figure out how to better monetize.

On that note-

Two former Tumblr employees said they were alarmed when Khalaf chose Black Lives Matter as an example of a community that the company should focus on converting into Yahoo media consumers. One told The Verge, “Simon explicitly said that Black Lives Matter was an opportunity to [make] a ton of money.”

Capitalism is disgusting and ruins everything.

LETS LEAVE

I hope Verizon loses more than double what they bought Tumblr for, the dumbasses deserve it
