This “project” has all the hallmarks of many delusional newbies, who think they're ready to organize and lead CPs, before even releasing a single solo map of their own. What can possibly go wrong?
destituteamn431 immediately caught my attention the other day, even before starting this development thread. He made a different thread, asking if people are willing to work with him on a project, after supposedly deleting his entire map catalog by accident, a grand total of 20 maps, that he supposedly worked for a long time. This is where i take issue with this guy. His thread has a “deception” written all over it. Okay, so he deleted his maps, and instead of panicking, and posting questions for ways to recover them, the first thing he does is to start a recruitment thread for a CP? I don't think so. I bet he never made a single map. You can tell by his shady replies, when people started giving him options to recover his data, he shows immediate disinterest to even try. Put yourself in that scenario. 20 maps take a lot of work, no one will simply turn their back on it, not if there's a chance for recovery. Well, guess, what? He eventually gets asked this exact question, and now he claims he actually had only 2 maps, instead of 20. He implies that his wad was meant to have 20 maps, but he only finished 2. Okay, then why would you frame it like "I deleted the 20 map wad i was working on"? Of course, no one showed interest in working with a newbie, who was being misleading on purpose, so what does he do? He starts his shitty CP dev thread on the same day, of course. And it's a total disaster as you may expect.Yeah, we know who you are, we can see who's posting the thread. This is actually the second time he introduces himself, after he added his nickname in the subtitle of the thread as well. I'm already getting the "I'm thinking too highly of myself, despite never releasing anything" vibes from this dude... this is Doomguy999 level of delusion here.
But what is this? Now he's saying that he deleted his maps on purpose, not accidentally, to do some Linux/XP shit? It never occurred to him to make an external backup, eh? Yeah, he's lying, 100%. It's also a bad idea to be saying shit like "I'm starting this project, just because i feel like it". It's a sign that you don't take the project seriously. Where do i begin with this...
Eight episodes? First thing you've ever attempted, and you're going for 8 episodes? Bad idea. Another example of when clueless inexperience nobodies, decide to shoot for the stars from the get go, because maybe they've played a few maps from Eviternity and now want to outdo it. I don't think i've ever heard of a 32 map megawad with 8 episodes. Maybe because it's kinda dumb to do so many? It means each episode will only have 4 maps, which is not enough to really establish them. But he also wants a secret map in each episode, so that's even worse. That's 25 percent of the megawad locked behind secrets, while the regular episodes will consist of only 3 maps each.
He reassures that no one will join this project, by requesting only one mapper per episode. That's right, if you want to join this project, you need to build 4 maps for this guy. We've seen people join questionable projects, working their asses off to make their maps, and then getting their time wasted when the projects get abandoned. Well, multiply that by 4. No one is joining this farce, guaranteed, not even the most naive mappers out there.
The more i read, the more this thing reminds of those Idea Guy Projects, where “the leads” don't do anything and just demand others to follow their ideas for their personal dream wads. Now he's going to tell you to stick to specific music themes, on top of the visual ones.
MBF21 for UZDoom? Come on... He clearly doesn't know even the basics of mapping formats and the ports they cover. Goes for UZDoom, because that one is supposed to run everything, so he basically is covering his ass, instead of admitting that he doesn't know which ports are compatible with MBF21.
And of course, he repeats the same mistake others did before him. He opens the door for anyone to bring custom textures, so they can build his requested themes. He clearly doesn't have the ability to create a texture pack for his ambitious idea, but he doesn't know that he'd still have to compile all textures and maps at the end. That right there is a guaranteed fail, because from what we've seen so far from him, i bet he doesn't have the necessary Slade knowledge to do so. Lucky for him, he'll never get any maps submitted, so he won't have to come up with some "personal life drama" excuse for the inevitable cancellation of the project.
Let's see the moronic episode themes now: Is anyone surprised that this idiot is taking the most generic and easy to make theme for himself? Hey buddy, why dodn't you take the 1920's, the Renaissance, Rome, or the fucking Stone Age? This is exactly what that moron EPICALLL did, as he took the generic tech base theme for himself and came up with the most convoluted and nonsensical themes for others to bang their heads over. This should be mandatory rule: If you come up with a complex theme, you, as the project lead, should be the first to make a map for it.Okay, i can understand the present day theme, city levels and shit, but what the fuck is 1920s supposed to be? 1920's where? US, Europe? Africa? Asia? Doom 2 in Rural Only? How about some description, since you can't be bothered in a million years to provide the custom textures, or an example map, as any proper project lead should do! Renaissance and Rome? I guess you mean Ancient Rome? Same point applies, no description, no examples, no custom textures. Why should anyone bother working on it? The fucking Stone Age? Are you kidding me? How do you envision this?
A Fucked Up Present? What is this? Care to clarify? Wouldn't the “normal present” from Episode 1 already be fucked up, since there are demons from hell running around? Explain your themes, you clueless motherfucker! Or, i don't know, prove you can build a basic map, before you jump to making community projects.
It's strange because this is not the type of newbie that registers today and starts a CP tomorrow. He's been on the forum for over a year, but clearly couldn't be bothered to use that time and learn a little bit about the process of leading CPs... like opening and reading some threads. When I see someone with 400 days on DW asking people to submit maps via email, that makes it clear to me that the guy has not only never opened a proper CP dev thread to see how it's done, but he couldn't be bothered to do anything. He doesn't give a crap, he just wants to fool people to build shit for him.
He's probably not a real Doom fan, has discovered the game through MyHouse, or RAMP in 2025 and now wants to come in and role-play as a “developer”, while skipping the important steps to improvement, starting with a playthrough of the original IWADs. Take for example the fact that he doesn't yet have a single slot taken, let alone a submitted map for this "project", and yet he's already talking with DavidN so he can set up a RAMPART level hub for it. I hope David is smart enough not to waste his time with this moron. Also, i'm almost sure you need GZ/UZDoom for the RAMPART, but i could be wrong...
Shit! I got so distracted by the other crap in this "project", that i skipped over the fact we yet again don't have a submission deadline. Well, that is the final nail in the coffin for this turd.

Having a different thought/opinion that does not conform with Troonworld's standards is already grounds for a permaban. Seems to me the ones who are easily triggered are the lunatics running Troonworld.
|
|
I don't wish to see you banned, Walter, but you should be aware that you can get the hammer for as little as being a part of this forum. You don't have to get triggered over anything over there. How many people lost their accounts for simply having an opinion? They don't have a set rules, like other forums do, for a reason. Why do you think is that?

gije I uploaded the FDA to Litterbox, since uploading to Catbox is disabled currently (so it will expire in 3 days). I tested it, and it is not an empty ZIP file anymore : litter.catbox.moe/oir2g4x5z99yk37u.zipI do not think you should be worried about being able to see a future area. You can ensure the monsters do not see the player early, by putting them in untextured pits, and popping them up when the player gets there. It feels like you have majorly restricted yourself, with the entire temple perimeter becoming one giant arena. Because now you have to make very flat areas, so they all connect neatly at the grand reveal, and these areas are already huge. To have them all connect at the end would make for an enormous arena, that would make the flatness even more apparent, and to make it engaging would require you to make a slaughterfest, to fill all that huge empty space. I do not have anything against slaughterfests, but I do not think you know what you are setting yourself up for, because the map so far has not really struck me as slaughterish. waltercI will use the pantless sargent, but not the imp, the imp looks like a new enemy.

Some things have been changed for that project but still have zero confidence for the effective realization of It. And why i wasn't banned yet Is because i am acting more carefully after i was banned for posting Hexen warez cluelessy 19 years ago (!!!) with my old monicker daimonreloaded. And, huh, i am not getting triggered easily for all the things you guys are easily triggered.

This one seems pretty doomed for starters, but have a fancy title that i would like to stole (no really, is the best thing of It) Yes, that will be next entry. I will write some of my thoughts on it tonight, but will probably wait for a day or two before posting, just to see if it gets more hilarious in that time.

This one seems pretty doomed for starters, but have a fancy title that i would like to stole (no really, is the best thing of It): www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/159412-doom-guy-fucks-up-the-time-space-continuum-open/Chaotic rules, ANSII textes, stock textures only but some of the themes wanted for it clashes with the vanilla assets, "send your maps via mail" (only like 2 times i saw this kind of things that i thought buried back in the 90s/2000s), no demo wads of what this guy is looking for, using UZDoom for MBF21 maps (ok) and especially make a small episode of 4/5 maps from who want to join this! To me, this looks pretty cursed from the starts. destituteamn431 Fucks Up The Community Project Concept Also the Google Mail & Drive usage is somewhat common even for nowadays. impping II! would be an personal example of mine where a Google table was used to track all incoming maps and you had to publish your maps on your fucking Google Drive and send in the link on the thread which was rather strange since with the first one you had to only package the wad with whatever else you had in mind as per usual. Some troonie "quirk-up" I presume. On a side note how hasn't Troonworld (or Dreadworld, both work flawlessy) banned you yet? I'm guessing those not as vocal as me are spared? I'm not quite sure, be lucky that something is protecting you from the retardth of the trooneration circle jerk.

beamydonut thanks for the suggestion. I'm running out of shitty CPs to target, so i'll take it under consideration, but i make no promises. Taking a quick look at Commodore Flying Free, i only see a release thread, there's no development thread as it seems the whole thing was made on discord, and that limits me on the things i can talk about. I'll have to take a closer look and then decide. Another CP by a clueless newbie just popped out today, and it's a perfect candidate for the CPH treatment... that one will be the next target. I'll make the post on it either tonight or tomorrow. Will look out to that! Incredible how much can be talked about with rather little. Just like with history this entire thread can be a lesson for many on how and how not to run a community project. This is how a community should operate. You only learn things the hard way! About CFF it did fully transition (lol) into a Discord-run project which at least is set up well enough, not so much with the rest. I suggest making some bullshit Discord alt to go undercover as your name is probably just as recognizable to troonies as with others here. Good luck!

FDA for gije : files.catbox.moe/674ht1.zipVery rough looking map, and a very rough start. The damaging solid poop floors are not exactly clear, and removing hitscanners is not going to help telegraph it better, the arena is too wide open with various turrets, so it will always feel like getting sniped, no matter what you do. I recommend using the default brown liquids from Doom 2 (since they already resemble shit), and using HIV/AIDS signs next to them, because it's also very confusing in the caves, since there are already brown floors all over the place. It took me a long time to realize what was happening. The upper city areas are very flat, and could use more height variation. Maybe in the first area some tall climbable poo mountains (which you could place the chainsaw, rocket launcher, and radiation suit on), and having the first half of the area be at a lower elevation. Then in the second city area you could rearrange the fountains, so they can be used as a staircase to get on top of a building to get a yellow cog (the current cog placement could be replaced with a radiation suit). Some extra cover could also be provided, in the open stretches of the upper city, against the hitscanners and for general tactility. The resources did not feel too lacking after the first area. The music has to go. Some instruments are way too loud, and others are out of key. From the resource pack I recommend: MAP05, 07, 09, 11, 12, 13, 24, 25. Something light, mid-tempo and jazzy. Because this map reminds me a lot of the city maps in Doom 2, with the openness, scale, and stock texture usage. FDA zip is 0 bytes for me. Might be catbox's ongoing issues. Yeah, I was worried about the solid pain sectors, but it was partly experimental to match the inspiration while filling and denying area. In particular, I was worried about clash with the other maps' behavior in the set. Maybe our hero is allergic to curry.. I'll add brown puddles in with the crap and experiment with signage. Will try adding some contrast in the caves doing a little more QoL there. I've already enlarged the safe area around the blue key bars in a newer version. Height variation in the temple complex is kind of a rough order since I wanted to tightly control visibility between areas, but I'll see what I can do. More cover is probably a good idea considering how things will develop at the end. I'm inclined to keep the cog where it is since the dynamic with the cyber amuses me and I kind of want the player to go into the next zone blind.. Will keep the area in mind for further development. Next version will probably remain a bit flat in the temple complex, but I have an idea. The end of the map was already planned to lower all the tall walls, but maybe I'll go further and try hitting everything with an earthquake using some conveyor magic.. Might try adding some recessions into the ground here and there. Next zone already does this to a large degree. Will try the music recommendations and maybe some temple-appropriate Memento Mori tracks and see what sticks. Had been testing this on very low volume, which was a mistake.

Here's the snapshot: files.catbox.moe/88kym8.7zAlready a little beyond this in development, but this is the playable area so far. Ammo's tight so don't waste it, and the second temple area might need a little adjustment since it's a bit rough if you don't get the soulsphere beforehand.. all's under continual tweaking. Most texturing temporary to one degree or another; detailing still in sketch phase. Went with Jago's theme from Killer Instinct for the music, but will probably try and find something else. That sax or whatever they chose is a bit grating on my end. Sucks, since I like it otherwise. Considering wiping out most of the hitscanners in the beginning to better telegraph shit-based pain sectors since it's a running theme in the map.

Here's another dumbass project with a gimmick. Why it's stupid? Don't know how to explain it, other than, it seems to me that the best maps for speedrunning are usually the ones that are not intended as such. You know what i mean... when the id Software guys were building the original maps, going through fast was definitely on their mind (Par Times are there for a reason), but they didn't intentionally go out of their way to make every section of these maps, easily skippable, cheesable and hackable. There were many exploits and skips found by speedrunners over the years, but those were oversights and things that Romero and co. couldn't predict at the time they were making the games. Now we have some amateur "speedrunner" here (trust me, it's generous to call him a speedrunner) who tried (and failed) to do this intentionally, and the way i see it, this can only lead to a very butchered Doom experience. Hey, Erik Alm was a speedrunner, right? I bet he intended for his maps to be open for speedrunning, but i also bet he gave priority to the gameplay first, which is why his maps felt natural to me. (...) The main reason i decided to put this shithouse on blast, is because of what he did at the end... which is also the most inexcusable crime done by so many of these nobodies, and sadly something that always goes unquestioned and unpunished on Doomworld... The Project lead silently quit the project the moment someone submitted a map for it. That's right, Yousuf Anik submitted his map and AlexEightch just ghosted him, never played it, never gave him any feedback, he just stopped posting and abandoned the project without saying a word. As of right now, a year later, Yousuf's map submission is the last post in the project thread. In a normal world this behavior should be moderated, but not on Troonworld. I bet this AlexEightch could start a new CP right now, and no one will say a word, because i've seen this shit happen before with JohnnyCruelty and others like him.Wow, what a disaster gem of a project. Shitty concept, broken rules, incompetent lead, not to mention everyone's favorite friend: Ghosting! Seriously, "maps intended for speedrunning" are gonna end up an complete mess because speedrunning is not intended by mappers anyway! Speedrunning explicitly exploits the games bugs & glitches in its maps and game mechanics. Making maps intended for it basically ruins the point since they're intended to be completed fast as possible. Since the "project lead" only has done bad No Monsters runs he wouldn't even be able to make a proper speedrunning map, as proven by his example map. It's like me with my old banter about making a slopghtermap wad despite me hating and denouncing slopghtermaps as nothing more but cheap difficulty arenas. Only make maps for something you're actually good in and understand instead of trying to go with the crowd. "Doom is for everyone!", they said as they trend-chase and disclose "problematic figures" from the rest of the community. Pure ironic control. This happens EVERY TIME, doesn't it? Why even bother making a project if you're going to abort it like a leftie woman? If you have the time, motivation, and knowledge go ahead but don't shit yourself. This happened with almost every project I've been in (one Doom project, two Wolfenstein 3D projects, two of them still pending). It's always these horrible work ethics, not understanding how to run projects and how to get your ass off the ground in general. No wonder these people cut their dicks off, the only way they would ever be accepted in any form of society. This could easily ruin community efforts which it has been slowly as there have been no repurcussions on being such a failure as pointed out. If society normalizes it everyone accepts it. Same logic applies here. Gotta arrange a community cleansing, unacceptable. Thanks for this new post (despite the horrible AI image as always)! I have a personal suggestion for the next pile of shit: Commodore Flying Free. It is a Freedoom Aussie project in development limbo thanks to inactive and slow mappers with heavy dosis of troon, lead by a guy with "Bael" in his name which is heavily similar to the demon "Baal" on the Boom engine despite only being allowed to use visual Boom features only. I was banned off of it for a anti-trans and anti-Troonworld rant, hidden away as "toxicity". Karma is a bitch, now isn't it?

Yep. Was playing the wrong instruments behind closed doors, a shrieking tone. I believe Doom was a pedophile's Heaven since so many kids and teenagers alike hopped on to it like niggers to crack from the CIA. If I go deer hunting I won't look into the duck pond but follow the shit trails. well the reason he was involved in Doom in any way was just because he thought having any version of the game would sell well he wasn't involved community wise Basically but the same community thing happened outside of the community anyway. Hope he rots with Bill soon enough.

Hey, Erik Alm was a speedrunner, right? I bet he intended for his maps to be open for speedrunning, but i also bet he gave priority to the gameplay first, which is why his maps felt natural to me. Now this moron here wants to do this:
First red flag about this guy being completely clueless about managing CPs, is instead of adding a texture pack to the project, which would cost him nothing, he opens the door for everyone to bring custom textures, which could result in a complete mess for him, when it's time to compile the set. It just adds more to the possibility of this thing never being completed, considering how the project lead hasn't compiled anything before this point. The other rule is also contradictory. If you're going to add intentional skips and tricks to break your own map's progression in order to make it speedrun-able, then it's not a conventional map, in my opinion. Also, the biggest question with this rule is, who's going to be making these maps? They're not going to be made by pro speedrunners and Doom Gods, but normal players, and how are they supposed to figure out what is a "cool skip" or "intentionally challenging speed route"? Not to mention that they have to be able to playtest their own maps, and if they are casual players, chances are they'll create something that is way too easy and boring for experienced speedrunners. I guess AlexEightch is not bothered by this fact, because he's a pretty shitty speedrunner himself, and the only demos i could find from him, are in the No Monsters category. That's right, this motherfuker runs through the game without monsters, calls himself a speedrunner and has the audacity to start a speedrunning CP. The delusion is off the scale...
There you go, more stupid shit:All of these things are not done intentionally in the popular to speedrun classic Doom maps. I especially find the last guideline laughable. Placing weapons and resources, on the speed route, so the players don't have to go out of their way to get them, which is exactly the opposite of what makes a speedrun interesting. I'm talking from a viewer's point, since i'm not a speedrunner myself. Going out of your way, planning routes, optimizing your resource pickups... that's what makes a speedrun interesting and unpredictable to watch. Not in this guy's mind though, he wants everything to be conveniently placed for him, to be taken with ease. Might as well make the whole route a straight line for him, with all weapons, health and ammo directly on top... and no monsters on the way, of course. Because remember, he hates monsters, that's why he wants them out of the picture, or he might end up playtesting the submissions under the No Monster category as well.
I keep asking this divine question. How is it always that the most unqualified motherfuckers the ones to attempt these experimental projects? If ZeroMaster starts a speedrunning CP, i won't question it, but this imbecile?
Am i too harsh to call him an imbecile?
Nope, i'm on point. But i'm shocked to find out there's an example map in the OP. Fucking finally, someone had the common sense to provide an example! Yes! Well... guess what? It's an abortion! The detailing is good, but the gameplay is absolute trash. It's just straight flat corridors with low level enemies and lost souls that are all skippable. Hey dummy, if i'm able to speedrun your map (which i did), then you failed in your intentions. Unless his intentions were for casuals to speedrun this, but then again, i don't think he mentions this anywhere. I'm also not seeing any skips, tricks and platforming here. To lazy to follow your own guidelines, maybe? Or just not creative enough? Seriously, it's all straight flat corridors, it's retarded.
The main reason i decided to put this shithouse on blast, is because of what he did at the end... which is also the most inexcusable crime done by so many of these nobodies, and sadly something that always goes unquestioned and unpunished on Doomworld... The Project lead silently quit the project the moment someone submitted a map for it. I don't know where the last part came from but ok I guess. Tho, I'm on the exact opposite of the 'Heretic sucks' crowd and precisely because of this my proverbial tent is firmly erected on the 'Heretic-driven community is a dumb idea' camp but, nonetheless, 'public perception' rhymes with 'pubic deception' for a reason. I do believe however that the right of being offended is utmostly sacred, and on both ends, either as the 'partaker' or the 'per taker', so I won't judge no 'salt in' nor 'saltin'' the wound.
Personally speaking tho, being called 'retard' never struck me like lightning and 'nigger' is basically my surname but I, some 'drama-addicted' brown-skinned man? Now now that's just rude! While I assure the lack of life-treatening harm taken in your mislabeling -meaning that you can safely scratch that off from your next priest meeting- I wonder: aren't those who live with their foot and prints soaked in the so called 'troonworld' the most apt contenders for drama-queens? I bet that there are folks here who won't recall their own pops' cakeday yet won't flinch an inch to give you a complete essay of some deeply disturbed beta-male's past and present affairs with satanic lust.
Anyways, back to the main issue. I was simply pointing out the evident; that most people do things because they saw others doing things then replicate said things based on blind faith. In your case, reap-quantity over few bad apples but it begs the question - can't the whole lot be rotten? See, take common sayings. They do have their wisdom yet they won't apply to every single scenario. For instance, how feasible 'keep your friends close but your enemies closer' truly is when all you do is making code? Nevermind the hired muscle, the political puppetry, the pecuniary infrastructure that ensures coercion, you don't even have friends to begin with. What you may have at best is some alluring simbolic target for the attribute. One that might as well be predicated in your own reveries and will never ever touch grass - and no, your pet doesn't count.
Also, I take Rekkr, with all its questionable and unquestionable particularities, as the de-facto third entry of the Heretic-Hexen saga. Even if unofficially so as it clearly captured like a masterball the very essence that made those games great and I find hard to believe that whomever liked those won't like such. In any case, Rekkr was enough of a bottled thunderbolt for my lifetime and I see no need to pest Zeus for more.
