I can’t speak for Night, but I really liked the idea (probably as a sort of latent gender identity thing). I want to learn, but I'm new to the whole idea of programming and I have no idea where to start.Well to be honest, if you want to learn how to program the fastest and most efficient way, it’s probably best not to try to emulate my history. My first “real” programming language was DarkBASIC, which allowed beginning programmers to write simple 3D games, but it really won’t carry you very far in terms of ability and the things you can create are quite limited. (I think the pro version is free to use for free games now, but when I used it I had to buy it.) Though animation god Mike Inel did use DB Pro to make some really cool short games.Using DB and following their official guides will get you started programming, but it’s probably not the fastest or most comprehensive. I recommend checking out a more featured and popularly used language (I recommend Ruby or Python) on Code Academy and going through and practicing a few tutorials each day. (It’s also a really good idea to improve your general tech literacy, though I don’t really know of a good site designed for this.) You won’t be able to make anything very interesting right off the bat, but you’ll learn the fundamentals and will be able to apply your knowledge to make 2D games with libraries like Gosu or PyGame.It’s also important to learn different languages so you can expand your understanding of one concept to multiple languages. This isn’t as hard as it sounds, but some languages are more difficult than others. C/C++, Rust, and Java are all worth taking a look at after you’ve become more comfortable with Ruby or Python.And after that, if you want to make 3D games, I’d recommend the Unreal Engine. Though to be honest, I haven’t used it myself since I’m more interested in practicing lower level graphics programming at the moment.Also don’t take my advice as an end-all-be-all, as a lot of other people online have given their insight to this kind of thing online who are smarter or more experienced than me. If you try to move on too quickly to something bigger to try to skip to the “good stuff”, you’ll probably end up hurting yourself in the long run.It’s not as daunting as my wall of text suggests it is.
