how do you respond and type so fast?
1, if I'm on my phone and if I also happen to be on tumblr then I'll try to answer asks as often as I can / as many as I can so my inbox won't get too. overwhelming.
2. I can type pretty fast because once you've been typing/writing for more than a decade, you know where each letter is on your keyboard without having to look at it. muscle memory. this way you can type fast enough

Can you report someone for harassment if they only leave one rude comment? And can you report them on a fic that isn't yours? I'm not sure how this function works on ao3
you can report that comment if it’s on your own fic. how many comments they’ve left is irrelevant. if it’s a form of harassment then it is harassment and you can and should report it as such.
that said, if the comment is on someone else’s fic, I’m about 95% sure you can report it for harassment too. so like. I’m not 100% sure, but I think ao3’s tos is that if you see someone violate their rules, you can and should report them to ao3 — doesn’t matter if it’s your own work that’s being targeted or not.

I'm curious about your blorbos/hyperfixations before the current Squid Game one. Is there a type of character you usually like or is it always different?
yes lol I definitely have a type: morally corrupted man whose pain and trauma turned him into a monster and a weapon (he’s secretly craving love and gentleness that he’s never experienced, will break if someone hugs him and tells him he did good — bonus if he’s gay for his own archenemy without even realizing it)

never seen your blog before but in regards to your recent post i feel like its the writers responsibility to update their fics. ive lost motivation and stopped writing but even then i still updated my readers or labeled my fics as paused, because it pisses me off both as a writer and reader of fanfiction when a writer just ghosts for no reason. though i see both sides of the argument! anyway have a good one
I think you’re mistaking a fanfic—that is a hobby—for a job that you have to perform.
because if something is a job then yes, it’s your responsibility to perform and keep people satisfied.
but fanfic writing is not a job. I’m sorry if that’s how you see it. I cannot imagine enjoying performing for free without exhausting myself out. but for other writers, it’s a hobby. a passion, yes. but still a hobby. and the thing about hobbies is that it’s first and foremost for fun, it’s a form of self care. there’s no “responsibility” when it comes to hobbies.
sure, it’s valid if a writer themself feels bad for not updating. I do. but there’s a difference between a writer wanting to write more and a reader — a stranger — demanding something from someone else’s hobby.
I don’t know how many times I have to say this but fanfic writers write for themselves. they write for their own enjoyment. for. fun.
they don’t write to please strangers. they don’t write for strangers’ approval. they don’t owe anybody anything. much less strangers on the internet.
hell, I wouldn’t be writing for almost a decade without tiring myself out first if I weren’t doing it out of love and passion. it would no longer be out of love and passion if I were chasing strangers’ approval or trying to keep them satisfied. I do this for myself, so I can escape from life into my own little world that I create for me. this is my comfort place and I do it for me. not for anybody else. me.
fanfic readers are privileged enough to read something someone else writes for their own enjoyment. for. free. they don’t get to be entitled. they don’t get to demand more.
it’s the same as when you receive a gift from someone. you don’t demand more gifts from them, you don’t tell them you dislike their gift. unless you’re an asshole, of course.
this used to be a common sense and etiquette before tiktok, algorithm and going viral made people think everything is about performance and engagement, by the way. but the thing is that that is not what fanfic is about. so whatever tiktok teaches you, you cannot apply it to ao3 or fanfiction.

allthingswhumpyandangstysome people will be like “I wonder why fanfic writers don’t share their works anymore😔” and then this is them when a writer is kind enough to share something they write — as a hobby, for their own enjoyment — with them for free. some people really don’t realize how privileged they are that they get fanfics for free. imagine having access to something for free because someone is kind enough to share it with you… and then being rude, entitled and an ungrateful pos to that person who was kind enough to share their creation with you for free“almost 1 year is a lil too much for me” fuck off. fanfic writers don’t owe you anything. one of my favorite fics was updated after 13 years, and what I did is that I thanked the author for choosing to continue the work, I didn’t act like a spoiled toddler by asking why they didn’t update sooner. and even if a writer chooses to abandon their fic permanently with no explanation, that is their choice, their hobby, their decision. they don’t owe your entitled ass anything. you people let tiktok rot your brains to the point you see everything as content farm and engagement. not a piece of art created by the artist’s love and passion. it’s dystopian. #writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#ao3#archive of our own#writing community#fandom discourse#fandom discussion6,33818,319

Like, if you're making fanfiction of a piece of media, shouldn't you already appreciate and like the initial thing?respectfully, I disagree. sometimes canon can be better than fanfiction, sure. but sometimes fanfiction is way better than canon.just because fanfics are inspired by the source material and just because fanfics are about characters who belong to the source material does NOT mean fanfics can never be better than canon and the source material. I have personally read so many brilliant fanfics out there that are SO MUCH BETTER than the source material. I have personally read so many brilliant fanfics out there and thought to myself that the fanfic writers know and understand the characters better than their canon creators. you can appreciate the source material if you want, sure. but other people can also say fuck you to that same source material and create their own world for the characters they love. fanfic is about writers’ love and passion for the characters and the stories/the world that they create for these characters. fanfic is not about “here’s my free promo and tribute to the source material because the source material is so amazing you guys”. also source material and canon are only suggestions. how much of it a fanfic writer will follow, if any, is entirely up to them. I love canon divergent fics, I love self-indulgent fics, I love fix-it fics. There was a pretty notorious issue with one a couple months ago in my fandom, they were rightfully called out and dissapeared, but now it's started again and there's a new cesspool of negativity. It's annoying for me as someone who has no plans to stop posting my stuff but I hate to think that one or more of these hate posts complaining about fics and writers could discourage or scare away other fans.block and report them for harassment. spread awareness so that others are aware of them and so that they can block and report them too. other than that, my advice is to ignore and not give them any attention. if they’re not suspended for harassment first, maybe they’ll eventually get tired of screaming into the void without anybody acknowledging their existence. #admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#writing community988

Like all the people on an ai witch hunt, deleting the comments and blocking them is usually seen as like a defence tactic but… I’m not about that. If anyone is trying to attract rudeness, would just sniping them from the get go be bad?I’ll never understand the mindset that says “if you block someone who’s rude to you, it’s an admission of guilt. if you delete rude comments, it’s an admission of guilt. you are supposed to sit there obediently and take the harassment”. I think it’s first spread by bullies who are mad and offended that they can’t freely harass others anymore after they were rightfully blocked and their comments were rightfully deleted. you don’t owe anybody anything, much less strangers on the internet. plus it is your account. you can block any person you want for any reason or for no reason at all. you can delete any comment you want for any reason or for no reason at all. I don’t know when internet etiquette shifted to this cult-like behavior where witch hunt is the norm and people are expected to seek strangers’ approval and prove their innocence when random strangers throw accusations at them, especially when chances are that nothing you do will ever be enough when they’ve already decided you were guilty of petty imaginary crimes and cancel culture that to them are the equivalent of first degree murder. do whatever you want. it’s your account. you don’t owe the internet mob anything. they’re not worth your time or attention. and their opinions on you are their problem, not yours. #admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#fandom discourse#fandom discussion#writing community66227

allthingswhumpyandangstyAnonymous asked:Help how do I cope with the gray area between fiction and reality where one might desensitize and lead to the other?awareness is the key. most people don't do bad things just because they enjoy dark fiction. I've been enjoying dark and taboo fiction ever since I was a kid, and I didn't let my enjoyment in fiction turn me into the fictional horror that I consume. a lot of people I know also enjoy dark fiction, and they are ones of the sweetest people I know. that's because they — we — can separate fiction from reality.what I'm saying is: engaging with dark or disturbing fiction doesn’t automatically desensitize you into becoming a bad and harmful person. more often than not, people are actually doing the opposite by processing fears, exploring control, or examining things they would never accept in reality through dark fiction. it gives you a contained space, in which no one in real life is harmed, for that.that said, if you’re worried about desensitization, my honest advice is to check in with yourself by asking these questions:"am I still able to empathize with real people?""do I recognize that these things I enjoy are fiction and not something I condone in real life?""does what I enjoy in fiction change or affect how I treat people in real life?"if something does feel off, you can always step back, change what you’re consuming, or take a break. but to be honest, I've never met anybody, who enjoys dark fiction, whose real-life moral compass was affected by the dark fiction they enjoy. humans' minds are stronger than you think, that's why most people are able to indulge in dark fantasies without harming anyone in real life.#admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#writing community85321

I believe you have to be the author of the fic that was stolen in order to report it for copyright infringement though.allthingswhumpyandangstyI can see that they “give credits to the authors” in the first ask you sent, but giving credits means absolutely nothing when they still steal other people’s fics. so it is still blatant plagiarism and stealing, with or without the credits. credits mean nothing when consent is not explicitly given. the authors being offline for years is not an excuse. if you create something, that thing is permanently yours. an author does not have to stay online forever in order to retain ownership of their own works. so I’m sorry but the fact you say “it isn’t plagiarism ig” just because the person gives credit is wild to me. yes, it is. credits are only after you got a clear permission from the author and you credit them to both acknowledge and thank them for their consent. if you just copy and paste other people’s works, ✨change the characters’ names and then credit the authors✨, without the authors’ knowledge or consent, you are still a thief. saying it’s not plagiarism just because credits are given is the equivalent of saying it’s fine if someone steals someone else’s car — because at least they leave a note that says ✨thank you✨ to the car’s owner before they drive away. zetabrarianI think we should also talk more about how, quibbles about the permissions and ethics and legalities and all else aside, this is a weird thing to do. This is weird, bad behavior. This is a rude, bizzare, nonsensical thing to do. This shows blatant disregard toward the original author, absolutely, but it also a huge violation against the entire nature of fanfiction. Copy-pasting names out for other names doesn't make any sense. That's not how characterization works. That's not how voice works. That's not how setting works. It doesn't work. It's weird. And I think we should be loud about how weird and off-putting and icky it is so people stop acting like fan works are interchangeable. Because they aren't. synonemoushi, fanfic writer over here. if you all don't mind, I have a funny story to share.I've had this exact thing happen to me while I was actively writing in the fandom that the story was copy-pasted from. and I was not reached out to in spite of the very easy messaging function built into the site. so I can say, with absolute certainty, if people out there really need to get the opinion of a fic writer who has had this happen to them: this fucking sucks, don't do this, you will absolutely cause more harm than you could ever imagine. I can no longer remember exactly when this happened (it was something like 15 years ago, so do forgive me), but I remember the fic, what fandom it was "transported" to, what pairing it was, the response I got when I reached out to them to say "hi, not cool, actually". and even though I got an apology and the fic was removed, I still think about it. (and no, not just because I only heard about the fic because a third-party commented and asked if I was the copy-cat because they'd read the other story first and assumed the worst about me.) it just really fucking sucks, even if it's done in "good faith" or whatever. there is no excuse in stealing from someone, "even" if it's made by another "fan". you always ask for permission, you always wait, and if you don't hear back or can't find any statement from the fic writer about their works, maybe don't fucking do it? giving credit means absolutely nothing, and I cannot believe it's the year 2026 and we're still having this conversation.that's all I had to say, thank you for coming to my TED talk. #rb147460

I’d probably be wary of reading fics that were written by someone who’s never seen the source material before. that said, I still understand that people can absolutely write fanfics of whatever they want, even if they’ve never seen the source material before. because fanfic is a hobby someone does for their own enjoyment. there’s no rule that says “you must watch at least (__) percent of the source material in order to write fanfics about it”. so if someone wants to write fanfics about, say, a movie they’ve never watched before, that is well within their rights. they don’t need anybody’s permission. they don’t owe anyone anything when they’re just minding their business and having fun with their harmless hobby. #admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#writing community#fandom#fandoms467

Later on, some even feel like they were "groomed" into those interests and then blame the existence of those spaces altogether...but overall; what do you think? /genq (genuinely wanna know what could be some potential flaws in this belief of mine)there’s a difference between“going out of your way and promoting inappropriate contents directly to minors” which is not okayand “understanding that minors will exist, sometimes in places they shouldn’t exist, and it is not your job or your responsibility to control them and what they consume, because you’re not their parent” which is normal and okay. whether or not you like it, minors do more extreme things than engaging with taboo fanfiction in fandom space. I and my entire classmates were watching some borderline snuff videos when we were minors, in our classroom, because my friend decided to show it to the whole class during lunch break. my other friends were out doing drugs and having sex when they were minors. all of us turned out fine. “can fiction affect their worldviews?” maybe. if they’re minors. but to be very honest, when I watched those snuff videos that my friend played in our classroom or when I read non-con fics as a minor, I already knew that those things were bad, without anyone teaching me they were bad. but even if some minors really can’t separate fiction from reality, even if some minors really can’t understand that the bad things they see are bad, then that is their parents/guardians’ job to teach them right from wrong.whether or not you like it, minors will consume whatever they want if they have access to the internet. and it’s not strangers’ job to monitor what fanfic minors read or what spicy fanart they look at, especially if the warnings are properly tagged. if there’s something not suitable for minors, it is the parents’ job to handle that. if minors need to be taught how to separate fiction from reality, it is the parents’ job to teach them that. strangers on the internet are not their parents or babysitters. and it is not strangers’ job to look after someone else’s kids. #admin answers#fandom#fandoms58241

They've genuinely helped me feel more confident about my writing and posting whatever I want, so thank you for that. 💖I wanted to ask for some advice because I'm still struggling with something.Last year, I had a pretty negative experience in one of my fandoms. I was implied to be a creep/pedophile for writing smut of characters from a children's show—even though they were explicitly aged up and written as adults. Ever since then, it's been really hard for me to regain the confidence to write E-rated fic for those characters. My T-rated fics do well on AO3 and are fairly popular in the fandom, so I know there are a lot of eyeballs watching what I post, but I always hesitate when it comes to posting explicit works. The fandom is pretty small, has a younger audience, and leans toward a purity culture mindset. I've even seen people in a Discord server for the fandom come to the consensus that explicit content of those characters shouldn't exist at all because the source material is for kids. It's frustrating because I watched this show as a kid myself. In my mind, the characters grew up alongside me, so writing them as adults feels completely natural.I also don't understand why strangers feel entitled to police what others write in fiction. Even if someone wrote something I personally wouldn't, I don't see why it's anyone else's business. I'm proship and profic, and I wish I could internalize that mindset when it comes to my own writing.I guess my question is: how do you build the confidence to just write the stories you want, especially when you're in a fandom that has a purity culture?I'd really appreciate any advice. Thank you! ❤️I’m not sure how helpful this is gonna be, but my very honest answer is that I’ve never cared about what strangers think of me or my works to begin with. they are strangers. they don’t know me and I don’t know them — and I write for me and my own enjoyment first and foremost — so their negativity just doesn’t matter to me. they’re just noises that can be silenced and forgotten about after one click of the block button. now I know “not caring” is not an easy thing to do for everybody, so I am in no way saying “just stop caring” because yeah I know it can be way easier said than done for a lot of folks. I’ve never cared about what people, especially strangers, think — because I’ve always been super introverted and therefore very content with vibing alone and completely shutting others off so that these people (strangers) don’t even exist in the world I create and indulge myself in. but I can only speak for myself. unfortunately I don’t have any advice on how to stop caring about what strangers think (because I’ve never cared to begin with), but I think it may help if you remind yourself that these people are just faceless noises on the internet and their negativity is their problem, not yours. don’t be afraid to use the block button as freely and frequently as you want. I wish you the best and I’ll be rooting for you. #admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms781

I’ve never been shot, drugged or stabbed. and I still write about characters getting shot, drugged and stabbed soI mean, if you want to do your research and be educated on the topics you write about, then that is great. but fanfic writing is first and foremost a hobby — a hobby does not require you to do your research or be educated, it just requires you to have funa form of art — the thing about art is that it gives artists all the freedom and power to create whatever they wantthere literally is no rule that says you must meet this specific criteria in order to write fanfics about something. #admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#writing community#whump13155

There is a thing called RPF and whether you like it or different nuances apply. These internet randos read your posts and go like 'we can write anything we want about anyone we want' which is just not the case. When you're writing RPF, at times you have to think where the line is. I have already talked about my opinions on RPF here.also you cannot have "little censorship", that doesn't exist. censorship is an all-or-nothing thing. if one thing can be censored, I can guarantee you that it will not stop at that one thing that you personally think crosses the line — because even the thing you think is okay can be considered "crossing the line" by others. if someone somewhere has the power to control what can and cannot be created, if someone somewhere can control what other people can and cannot access, that is censorship. and it is both a slippery slope and a fascist tool. and I say this as someone who is uncomfortable with RPF and chooses not to engage with them.there are things in fiction that are triggering to me, things in fiction that make me uncomfortable. what I do is that I curate my own internet experience and avoid those things. and I understand that my personal feelings and triggers are not other people's problem. I can understand that no censorship means absolutely nothing is censored, even the things I personally hate.#admin answers#anti censorship#profic#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#fandom discourse#fandom discussion#writing community76296

allthingswhumpyandangstyhanjil-kbr asked:Is there, like, tiers for blorbos right?Like, I have blorbos that I think about constantly, they are my everything and anything I do is in some way shape of form a reference to them, and my most terrible angsty and whump scenarios are reserved and prioritized to them. I also have some that I think about frequently, they are important to me, I have a few scenarios, with specific whump that fit them well. They have a purpose. Then I have the blorbos I have to be triggered into thinking about them, the occasional fanart or video popping up on my feed. But when they do show up I'm like "Oh!You! Yeah! You're great! Here be tortured for 10 min in this scene" and then they go back to sleep. I'd like to know yours, if you have them lolright now I only have in-ho and gi-hun from squid game. that's all lol. when I hyperfixate on a character or, in this case, a ship, that tends to be the only thing my brain thinks about. so... no space for other characters. I still watch and enjoy other shows beside squid game, obviously, but I consider myself a casual viewer.also I still love the characters whom I used to hyperfixate on before in-ho and gi-hun, but I don't write or read fics about them anymore. they're still in my heart, but not something I hyperfixate on.so if you ask me which characters I consider my blorbos, what ship I write fics about currently, it's in-ho and gi-hun exclusively. on one else :)#admin answers#squid game#inhun#457#seong gihun x hwang inho131
allthingswhumpyandangstyAnonymous asked:i changed my mind and i'm happy if you do answer my ask publicly. it could help people be aware of shady things happening in their fandom and to not take every negatove anon or comment at face value.anon, I’m gonna be honest. I don’t know what ask you’re talking about. I got more than 100 asks in a day. if I can tell what ask someone is talking about when they send me another ask telling me not to answer something, I immediately delete that ask from my inbox. so maybe chances are that I’ve already deleted the ask you’re talking about. (I deleted a few this morning after I was asked not to answer them by anons who reached out to me again and told me they no longer feel comfortable about their asks being posted publicly.)so I guess this is a little psa for folks in general, please make sure you’re okay with me answering your ask before you send me something — because I got so many anon asks in a day saying “actually don’t answer that I change my mind” and “actually you can answer it” and it’s literally impossible for me to always keep track and know what ask a specific anon is referring to when I actively receive new asks all the time. if you send me something and if you send me another ask in the next hour referring to your previous ask as “the last ask” then chances are that that ask is not actually the last one I received anymore. (my inbox gets new asks about several times an hour, sometimes they’re only minutes apart.)so like. I’m trying my best here. but I’m genuinely clueless about what ask you’re referring to. because you’re not the only anon in my inbox today, or any other day really, who later changed their minds about whether or not they wanted their asks to be answered. this is not to complain or throw shade at you or anyone, but please make sure you’re comfortable with me publicly answering your asks before you send me something (if you’d rather me answering your ask privately then you’d have to say so in your original ask and you can’t use anon, because tumblr won’t let me answer anon asks privately). as for this ask, I try to figure which one you might be talking about but there are… several in my inbox from today that fit your description (and I genuinely cannot answer every single ask I receive even if I try), there are also some I’ve already deleted after I was later asked not to answer them. so I’m truly sorry, but I’m afraid I don’t know what ask you’re referring to or if it’s already been deleted. #admin answers35

You don’t have to answer the question if you don’t want to btw. I’m just curious whether or not it’s ai generated or human-made is irrelevant here. but to answer your question, if it is written text then no, it is not csam. and it is legal in america* the fact it’s legal in america is why ao3 allows it — anything that is legal in america is allowed on ao3 and everything ao3 allows is legal in america.(if it’s not legal, then ao3 wouldn’t have been able to have “underage sex” tag as their canon tag without getting shut down long ago.)I’ve already talked about it here*unless it’s portrayed in extremely realistic details (not just explicit) that can be undoubtedly pointed to a specific child in real life, as in real, specific child that exists in real life, not a fictional character or a vague description of a child that can be about any child. so even if it’s about a real child then, for it to be illegal, it’ll have to have specific details that are exclusively about that child. if it’s just “explicit” then even though it’s rpf then it can still be legal, no matter how disturbing it is, if there’s no graphic, specific details pointing to that child. but if it’s a fictional character then by definition it’s legal and not csam because hurting imaginary people that do not exist is not a crime. #admin answers870
allthingswhumpyandangstyfandom etiquette for some people when it comes to fiction is that you can like anything about murder, gore and violence, but the second there’s anything sexual and non consensual about it, you’re a predator who condones these fictional things in real life and you must be locked up. and before people try to twist my words: you can absolutely enjoy whatever you want in fiction for whatever reason. no matter how taboo or messed up or disgusting it is. it’s all play pretend and fantasies (and if some people cannot separate fiction from reality then chances are that—with or without the fictional things they consume—they’re already troubled and they need help, but their inability to separate fiction from reality is not your business or concern, you’re not their parent). thought crimes are victimless and not real. don’t let puritans on the internet tell you how you can and can’t enjoy your harmless hobby. be wild. have fun. as long as you’re not harming anyone in real life, you do whatever you want forever. #profic#proship#anti censorship#fandom discourse#fandom discussion#fandoms#fandom police#blorbo#blorbos#fictional characters#comfort character#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom4791,670

allthingswhumpyandangstys0phieeeee asked:Hey there! You have quite the great reputation, so I might as well come to you for this question:Is it okay to tell people that I read, when it's mostly fanfiction? Is it considered reading??I get that it is definitely reading, but whenever people ask if I do I'm pretty sure they have original fiction books (or generally books) in mind. I question myself a lot whenever I say yes, and I don't know if I should clarify either uuuuu :)reading is reading. doesn’t matter if it’s a newspaper, an online article, an original novel or a fanfic. I mean I know I joke about people asking me what I write and pulling that awkward nervous/side-eye dog meme because I write fanfics, not original stories (I’m simply not interested in creating my own original story when my love and passion are with characters from existing material). but in all seriousness, in my opinion, there isn’t really any difference between “reading/writing original stories” and “reading/writing fanfics”. I’ve read fics that are longer and more professionally written than some published novels. yeah, there will always be people who think fanfics are “less than” published original stories just because 1. the characters are from existing materials 2. fanfics are free and often aren’t taken seriously by people who don’t know how much time and effort can be put into writing one. but if anything, I think the fact fanfics are written purely out of love and passion (no money involved) just means it’s a form of art that is actually about love and passion. not saying original novels aren’t about writers’ love and passion, obviously. but I guess what I’m saying is that with published original stories, there’s money involved. it’s a job. a career. but with fanfics, you know that it’s 100% the writers’ love and passion. so in the end you can tell people you read fanfics if you’re comfortable with that and if you’re okay with the possibility of them thinking fanfics are “less than” original published stories. the truth is that you cannot control what other people think. or you can choose not to tell them you read fanfics at all. there’s no right or wrong answers, there’s no “choices that are okay and choices that are not okay”. you don’t owe anybody anything. #admin answers#fanfic#fanfiction#reading#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fandom#fandoms10106

allthingswhumpyandangstyanswering asks about me switching from Google Docs to Ellipsusbefore I start, I want to clarify that I’ve only just started using ellipsus, so there may be things I don’t know or maybe things I got wrong? basically these are just what I experience so far since I began using it for the past couple days. so fyi I am definitely not an expert on how the platform works. “what convinced me to move from google docs to ellipsus? / what makes it better than google docs?”from what I hear people say, google docs apparently uses ai to 1. train their ai model 2. scan what you write — so that they can delete your works or ban your gmail account if their ai deems your works violated their terms of service, aka if your works are too explicit, if they’re smut or if they’re too taboo. though I must say that I’ve never had any issues with google docs and I write a lot of smut, explicit, taboo fics on there. so this is entirely what I hear other people say. but I decide to move from it to ellipsus anyway because I don’t want to risk losing my works or my account. so… “why ellipsus?”as I’ve mentioned earlier, I don’t want to risk losing my works, or my gmail account, because google’s ai allegedly gets to decide what I can or cannot write. from what I hear, ellipsus was built with the purpose of being 100% ai-free and 100% writer-friendly. so I believe my works are safer here. “how’s ellipsus compared to google?”so far I prefer ellipsus’s ui. it’s more convenient, easier to navigate, it has themes you can choose. it makes you feel less “writing is a job that you have to do” and more “writing is fun, look at all these themes and cool tools you can play with!”that said, the only thing I have to adapt is that ellipsus blocks all autocorrect and text prediction. granted, I understand they do this because, unlike other platforms, ellipsus’s core is that you as a writer write everything yourself. I’m still used to google docs, and pretty much every other platform, where I can somewhat rely on autocorrect to fix my typos and text prediction to help me so that I don’t always have to type down every single letter of the word I want. but it’s no big deal. I can correct typos when I proofread my works, and it’s not like I rely on autocorrect and text prediction that much to begin with anyway. “would I recommend ellipsus?”overall, yes. I would. it’s great for writers who want to write as freely and comfortably as they can. #admin answers#ellipsus#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#writing community104497

allthingswhumpyandangstyAnonymous asked:maybe not as much your wheelhouse, but is it bad if I blocked one of the "how to write characters of x identity" blogs because they're in a fandom I have a bad history with?Like, I didn't know they were in this fandom when I first followed them, it was only about a month ago that I saw a post where the mod of the blog was talking about it. Tbh they don't seem to like the media or fandom that much either, but just seeing it mentioned was enough for me, because I got doxxed and harassed whilst in that fandom and it was very traumatic, and so I blocked them and their main blog immediately.Tbh, they do have some other red flags (being very protective over the format of their blog name and putting someone else on blast when they used that format to try and create their own blog for educating people on how to write characters of a different identity, for just one) and I dread to think how they'd react if someone started another blog educating people on how to write characters of their identity because they present themselves as a beacon of knowledge and enlightenment and... idk. These things aside they seem okay and I'm sure that they've also been burned/traumatised by fandom and stuff and that's why they're so protective over their stuff, but I also just can't deal with it. Challenging your biases should be uncomfortable but those blogs and the person behind them just make me uncomfortable in general and I don't think that that's how it should be.I know I should probably be taking this to Reddit or whatever, but was I an asshole for this? Should I unblock them and live with it? They had good advice despite everything but I just couldn't take it anymore after they mentioned that fandom and idk anymore. Also I'm on anon cause they'd probably recognise themselves and go on a vague posting streak about how I must hate them cause they're x identity. No, I don't hate them, I blocked them because I got a weird vibe and they're in a fandom I can't stand even seeing MENTIONED. Honestly though, I kind of hope someone else gets brave enough to make a blog about how to write characters with that identity because it was genuinely getting hard to take all the self-rightuousness that one spouted and presumably still spouts, I'll be really fucking honest.you can literally block any person for any reason, or for no reason at all. it's your social media account and the block button is given to everybody for free, anybody can use that block button as freely as they want.block them because they're allergic to peanut butter and you like peanut butter. block them because you're allergic to peanut butter and they like peanut butter. block them because they named their dog tommy and you think the dog looks more like a cooper. block them because they like coffee and you prefer tea. block them because their favorite season is summer and you think winter is so much better. block them because they like the color pink but you like blue. block them because you don't like their layout. block them because you just want to click a button.it's your account. you don't owe anybody anything, let alone strangers on the internet. curate your own internet experience however you want.I probably have more than 1,000 blogs blocked and I don't remember what triggered a block for which blog, but I know I didn't ask for anybody's opinion or permission before I block someone for whatever reason I want. no matter how small or petty. it's your dashboard, your account, and you have full power to control what you see and what you don't want to see.#admin answers#fandom#fandoms993

It helps the brain process what has happened in its own way in a setting that's safe. OBVIOUSLY won't work for everyone, so do NOT engage with fiction that would trigger you. It's not a *requirement* to heal, but it doesn't mean it's not a tool. I tried Light and Sound therapy to help with my depression. (It also has scientific backing that it USUALLY helps with chronic migraines as well, according to my therapist). Well, it didn't work for me and honestly, it set off my migraines. Does it mean I will stand on a rooftop yelling at everyone that uses it it will give them constant headaches? No. Because there are people this will help and there are people it won't and that's how tools work. thank you for sharing#admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#writing community#profic51294

I believe you have to be the author of the fic that was stolen in order to report it for copyright infringement though.allthingswhumpyandangstyI can see that they “give credits to the authors” in the first ask you sent, but giving credits means absolutely nothing when they still steal other people’s fics. so it is still blatant plagiarism and stealing, with or without the credits. credits mean nothing when consent is not explicitly given. the authors being offline for years is not an excuse. if you create something, that thing is permanently yours. an author does not have to stay online forever in order to retain ownership of their own works. so I’m sorry but the fact you say “it isn’t plagiarism ig” just because the person gives credit is wild to me. yes, it is. credits are only after you got a clear permission from the author and you credit them to both acknowledge and thank them for their consent. if you just copy and paste other people’s works, ✨change the characters’ names and then credit the authors✨, without the authors’ knowledge or consent, you are still a thief. saying it’s not plagiarism just because credits are given is the equivalent of saying it’s fine if someone steals someone else’s car — because at least they leave a note that says ✨thank you✨ to the car’s owner before they drive away. allthingswhumpyandangstyin case anyone is interested in an update 147460

allthingswhumpyandangstyAnonymous asked:recently in one of the fandom spaces a new account emerged that flags fics from writers if they believe it to have ai elements. this then sends a hate campaign towards the writer whose fic has been flagged and reposted as ai. what are your thoughts on this? block and report the account for harassment. (if they "reposted" other people's fics, the authors can absolutely report them for plagiarism/copyright infringement too, especially if it's on ao3 — ao3 takes both this and harassment very seriously.)it's sad that these people are often the ones who claim to want to "protect" the writing community. but in doing so, they indulge in harassment, speculations, witch hunt and accusations, all based on vibes, and they drive more and more genuine writers away from sharing their works. so these people are the ones harming the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.also, mind you, every ai "tell tale" — em-dash, short sentence stacking, "not x, not y, but z" type of sentence — is something humans actually write before (I enjoy using these things in my writing, and I've been writing for almost a decade now, way before gen ai became a thing), otherwise ai wouldn't have been able to mimic these traits to begin with.but even if someone does use ai, which is something I don't agree with, harassment still won't make anybody the good guy. and yeah I'll never condone harassment. no matter what.if you (general you) suspect a fic is ai-generated and if that bothers you, quietly click away from it instead of resorting to being a bully and risking wrongly accusing a genuine, innocent writer whose human-made work didn't pass your vibe check.even if someone says they use ai and if that bothers you, click away from their works. mute them, block them. don't engage with them or their works. harassment won't make you the hero, it'll just make you a bully (and you can absolutely be reported for it).#admin answers#writing#writer#writeblr#writers#fanfiction#fanfic#fandom#fandoms#writing community34154

allthingswhumpyandangstyAnonymous asked:Hello i have a question. If I'm writing a multichapter fic focused on character A and B but there's a side character C who appears sometimes and has also some lines... should I tag character C as well?
Because like, the fic is not focused on him, so people looking for his tag might be disappointed. But he is in the fic, so maybe if someone wants to avoid him they could be irritated to find him there.
What do you think?if I were you, I would not use a 'main character tag' for character C — from how I personally tag my stuff, main character tags are only for characters that have major roles in the fic.so instead I'd use an additional tag, something like "mentioned character C". this way your audiences know character C is in the fic, but they're more of a side character than one of the main ones. also your work won't clog up the main character C tag for people who want to read a fic that focuses on character C#admin answers#ao3 tags#ao3#archive of our own#writing#writer#writeblr#fanfiction#fanfic#writers#writing community468
