Question about United States
Is it common for students to wear ears piercing in school?
Is it common for students to wear ears piercing in school?
My 17 year old daughter wants to get her ears pierced and I agree with it, but NONE of my children's schools (kindergarten, elementary, junior-high and high school) in Japan are allowed to get these.
I understand the rules are different each school, but I'm interested in the "school rules" of other countries.

We do place bans on certain kinds of clothing that are more revealing so that everyone can be in a productive learning environment, but earrings don't apply to that. I wear earrings all the time, and the only time I can't is when I'm in gym. But then I just have to switch to studs so they don't hit me while we're working out.
I'm a little curious now. Why does the school not allow her to wear earrings?

Basically any sort of jewelry is fine. Will just have to remove it for gym, or tech classes, where they could get caught on something.
Hats are usually not allowed though.

Thank you for telling me about your school rule nebulahime14 and mat!!
My children's teacher said "Students should focus their learning rather than their appearances".
Therefore, they are not allowed to wear makeup, any jewelry or accessories, and cannot wear any scrunchies and colored hair ties.
...and many other rules they have.

The answer depends on the school. I teach at a public high school where piercings are allowed. Noses, ears, anything! Another school nearby has a very strict dress code, uniforms are required and even teachers can't wear earrings or other jewelry.

Thank you for answering my question jennyca!
Oh, your high school allowed to have piercings! but it depends on the school.....I see!
My children's high school also has a school uniform and the dress code, e.g., The girls' skirt may be 3 centimeters from the middle of the knee. The boys' sideburns may not be longer than the top of the ear.....and so on.
I've never seen the teachers who are wearing jewelry except an entrance and graduation ceremony in my children's schools.

Gauges (I think they are called? They are round things that stretch out the ear) are frowned upon. Normal earrings on girls are generally fine, but each school sets it's own rules.

It depends from school to school because every school has a different dress code. I know for my school, wearing earrings is fine, but you can only wear certain types of earrings. You cannot wear hoops, no matter how small they are, nor anything too flashy. Just simple stud earrings. Of course we also have other rules that are like that. For example, we can't wear make up nor nail polish, and we can't show our necklaces. However so, it's not like many teachers enforce these rules either, so anyone can easily get away with most things as long as it isn't so noticeable, like the make up and the necklaces. I know this one girl who has huge gauges in her ears and got reprimanded once by the Dean. Honestly speaking, though, I don't think anyone in my school really cares about the school dress code that much.

My school only has rules that have to do with clothes. Things like make up and piercings are fine.
