Welcome to /po/! We specialize in origami, papercraft, and everything that’s relevant to paper engineering. This board is also an great library of relevant PDF books and instructions, one of the best resource of its kind on the internet.

Questions and discussions of papercraft and origami are welcome. Threads for topics covered by paper engineering in general are also welcome, such as kirigami, bookbinding, printing technology, sticker making, gift boxes, greeting cards, and more.

Requesting is permitted, even encouraged if it’s a good request; fulfilled requests strengthens this board’s role as a repository of books and instructions. However do try to keep requests in relevant threads, if you can.

/po/ is a slow board! Do not needlessly bump threads.

Hints and tips?

For folding, The best advice is to always fold as cleanly as possible, and take your time. Everything else comes with experience.

https://origami.me/beginners-guide/
https://origamiusa.org/glossary

What are ‘CPs’?

Crease patterns are a structural representations of origami models, shown as a schematic of lines; they are essentially origami models unfolded and laid flat. Lines on a crease pattern may be indicated by ‘mountain’ or ‘valley’ folds to show how the folds alternate. If you’re particularly skilled at origami, they become useful instructions for building models. A common base fold is usually discernable, all the intermediate details can be worked on from there.

Origami Tessellation
nothing calms the nerves quite like folding neat grids and then shaping them into lovely repeating patterns
produces great bookmarks too

am i supposed to just print this whole page? wouldnt the blue background waste a lot of ink? or do you cut the shapes out in gimp or something and put them in a new document? is this a very autistic question?
>>
>>629614
>wouldnt the blue background waste a lot of ink?
You'd normally print this out in a printshop with a flat price per page so you wouldn't care. If you are doing this at home, by all means edit out everything in gimp to conserve ink.

ah, i see. thank you for the tip!

Please do all of us who actually fold these models a solid, and generate some good will.

Kind of a different thing, but have you folded any Kyohei Katsuta models? He has a bunch of cool two piece modulars and ones where you lay two sheets on top of each other and fold them together.

Not the huge elaborate many-unit thing, but it might scratch the itch.

I was looking for for my copy of ChronoTrigger in the basement when I came across this box from when I was 15/17. These are some of the letters and notes girls used to send me. Most of them are folded normally. However some of them range from unusual to insane. The origami folded ones I literally haven't opened in 15+ years because I don't wanna fuck up the folds trying to get them back the same way. Is this a thing or was I just living in a different timeline?

Then there's this one. Which came from another girl. Where were girls learning these styles?
>>
Huh.. I thought the letter folding was kinda interesting. I guess not lol.
>>
Im 43. I used to see these in high school. I actually found one stuffed in an old box the last time I moved. I unfolded it and took a picture of the note. Never thought about grabbing one all folded up.
>>
>>629454 (OP)
Man that takes me back. I'm not sure I ever got one that complicated but yeah we used to pass them back and forward to kids on different bus routes.
In hindsight they probably put in a bunch of effort I didn't appreciate. I wonder if some Cleo magazine or something taught them it.
>>
I would love to see more examples if anyone has them.

What type of sticker paper is best for making stickers that stand against weather like heavy rain or snow?

I bought some vinyl sticker paper and put a sticker on my friends car to test it out. We had some heavy snow and the sticker got a bit muddied. I need something that will really last. I'm not sure if there's different types of vinyl paper or if it's brand dependent? I used to use glossy paper and my friend said her sticker I gave her immediately faded in the sun.
>>
Put stickers on then paint over with clear nail polish, make sure to get the edges too
>>
>>629106
By the way don't do this on a car body, just windows, then you can remove with nail polish remover on paper towel

There's higher quality vinyl, I think it's your best bet. Nothing's gonna last forever tho. Good luck with ur search
