Following the airing of the anime adaptation for Chainsmoker Cat (Yani Neko), online discussion has resurfaced around a 2023 harassment scandal involving Satsudou writer Chicchi Yukinaga. While many details of the case were publicly reported at the time, several claims now circulating online remain unconfirmed.
Social media users brought the matter to attention, and it is alleged in November 2023, Kodansha announced that Satsudou writer Chicchi Yukinaga had been identified as the person behind an anonymous online harassment campaign targeting fellow manga creator NyanNyanFactory, author of Yani Neko.
According to reports at the time, the harassment involved multiple anonymous accounts and ultimately led to legal action and an internal investigation.
It was believed that Yukinaga attempted to resolve the matter privately by sending an anonymous letter offering 1 million yen in compensation. Kodansha reportedly conducted handwriting analysis that matched the letter to Yukinaga, leading to the settlement attempt becoming public.
Many online discussions claim the harassment was motivated by jealousy after Yani Neko placed in the Next Manga Awards while Satsudou failed to rank. Though, the entire matter has no official confirmation via Kodansha or Japanese sources, so it could be assumed false.
Following the scandal, Satsudou allegedly stopped serialization as the series was described as being on hiatus. On March 25, 2024, Kodansha announced that Chicchi Yukinaga had passed away. The publisher issued a statement expressing its condolences, saying Yukinaga had been active with Young Magazine for more than two years and had created works filled with “passion and talent.”
Yukinaga debuted as a manga creator in 2021 after previously working as a salaryman, and began serializing Satsudou in *Weekly Young Magazine in January 2023 before the series entered hiatus.
Kodansha did not disclose a cause of death, but social media posts speculate about the circumstances surrounding Yukinaga’s passing due to the timing after the harassment scandal.
