My wife will be happy if it is Dungeon Crawler Carl or Bon Jovi, because we are saving money on new pinball machines this year!
Big Trouble in Little China, Muppets with S+W topper, anything with Superman...I'm buying.

You would think a company would wanna make something that the customer actually wants to buy, right . Nobody and I mean, nobody has been asking for Bon Jovi, Pinball.

#2754 24 hours ago

I've been asking. Regularly.

BoF and Matt Dinniman follow each other on IG. No similar connections to MM. Coincidence??

I wonder if the dual license is Back to the Future? I would think Matt would have said 2 pinball machines are coming if that was the case.

#2758 23 hours ago

At our local county fair tonight at the combine Derby, lots of music being played AC/DC Beastie Boys Neil Diamond, journey, Metallica, Thin Lizzy, poison, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe you know what was missing…… Bon Jovi

I don’t know how many times it has been discussed over and over back to the future is being done by Dutch pinball hopefully you’ll see something at Expo

Yaay Estevez

A cool and fun western theme is way overdue.

I told my wife Bon Jovi and even she was like oh no that’s not good. I really hope it isn’t that for their sake.

If not the BTTF license needs to be forced off them and go to someone that can do something awesome like BOF or JJ

#2763 23 hours ago
Quoted from superNoid:

I actually like Bon Jovi and have a fun time blasting it still. That band used to sell out monster venues back in the day and the lead singer is assumingly loaded so I'm not sure they'd be too concerned about a handful of negative opinions on a pinball enthusiast forum haha. Wasn't he in a Super Bowl ad recently too?

Right, I was referring to Cale saying that right now that there are two pinball manufacturers working on the same license. So maybe it's Dutch and BoF both doing BTTF? Or - maybe BoF is doing DCC, but they are targeting next year and will use the assets from the TV show, whereas MM gets the artist from the book covers and Jeff Hays, the amazing audible presenter. Any insider info on the topic of the same license by 2 manufacturers?

#2766 22 hours ago

Everyone is going to be like, "Oh shit, I didn't see that coming! It was so obvious!". And then it'll sell out in 1 day. And then you'll wish you joined the fan club and got a special plastic duck. It's so obvious.

can you really imagine a pinball company, or company in general paying for licensing rights without some kind of exclusivity agreement? I'm no lawyer but sounds like legal trouble to me. if two companies are working on the same IP it has got to be in public domain. honestly, if that rumor were true I'd bet it was universal dracula or frankenstein. Those both hit public domain next year.

#2768 21 hours ago

Well Bob Jove could be BJ for Beetlejuice lol
We know they sold more then one license for BJ, JJP has it too and the didn’t want make a machine that was a shared license.

Not that I think they sold it to 3 pinball companies but we could be running into a similar situation with DCC or maybe Goonies. I remember there was some rumor at one point that there could be two Goonies licenses out there but I thought that sounded crazy until JJP confirmed they also had BJ.

Who knows, anything’s possible, though unlikely.

#2769 21 hours ago

A surprising amount of people aren't stoked for Dracula but I have a feeling they are going to make that game loaded. I love the theme personally.

Are you specifically talking about two companies working with an IP at the same time? It's been done before just not at the same time like Stern doing Avatar and POTC and then JJP doing the same licenses later.

This may be a hot take, but I’m quite sure Bon Jovi would sell more than Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Not sure that would be the case for BOF. Stern could sell more sure but BOF is a boutique company. DCC has a passionate base of fans and if Karl designed it you would see people jump on the for the broad theme and Karl having a passion project just like they did for Winchester.

I don’t see that happening for Bon Jove but you never know.

While I have zero interest in a Bon Jovi title, I do think it would sell better. DCC is not family-friendly, which will keep some folks from buying it. Bon Jovi, on the other hand, seems friendly to a broad audience. Also, quite frankly, I had never heard of DCC until the hype around a pin started. It's okay as casual entertainment, but it's no Lord or the Rings. It suspect it will have the same staying power as Labubu dolls. I could certainly be wrong. Time will tell.

Variety reported that Jeff Hays has officially been cast as the voice of Princess Donut for the TV series, so in the event of DCC pinball licenses being divided between the book and its related media and the TV adaptation, we'd be getting Jeff Hays both ways, so win-win in my book.

I feel like the beetlejuice thing probably has more to do with JJP and spooky both having broad licensing rights with warner brothers. Not so much that they would both sign contracts for the same IP at the same time. I could always be wrong it's just sort of hard to imagine.

With Peacock announcing last week a DCC TV show produced by Seth MacFarlane, I think DCC will be a household name in the next 2-3 years.

I do remember when everyone thought BOF had Goonies...I have been on the Goonies list since that time. Since then it has become known that Spooky next game is Goonies. What if they both do Goonies this year? Better question is do I get to buy both since I'm on the general Goonies list and not a BOF or Spooky list? Even better question is do I have the money, space, and complete disregard for the value of money to buy both?!

#2782 14 hours ago

I saw this today maybe just mocking us for thinking of misdirect or now Kaneda thinks he got played too or just whatever. I also saw he posted a picture of his new Reserve membership just in case it’s BTiLC.

Again who knows, I am on the misdirect train, but the new Ducky announcement yesterday was a major curveball.

I’m gonna say that with Flip-n-Out and KingPin suddenly becoming MM distributors, that very strongly implies it’s DCC (MM) and they’re hopping on. They all believe Monday’s release is gonna be massive and they both have huge DCC interest lists ready to go.

#2784 13 hours ago

I absolutely could get behind some sort of western themed pin. We haven't had something like that in a long time. Some kind of spiritual successor to Cactus Canyon would be a lot of fun.

Please include The Destroyer assets in this. A Grace Jones topper that ignores the game play and just stares and snarls at the player and a Bombaata mode where you pop the ball at a hoop-like target.

Queen as a license and musical talent is far superior and how many did they sell?

Wow, there is a lot of chatter in here.

Everyone at Barrels of Fun headquarters is incredibly excited to show you what we have been working on. We want people to be surprised when one of our games is revealed. That has been one of the foundational pillars of this company from the beginning.

We all remember what it felt like to be surprised on Christmas morning, and that is the experience we want to create when we introduce a new game.
I understand that some people enjoy being the first to uncover information. That is part of the hobby, and I am a collector too, so I understand the excitement.

I also want to address some of the discussion around exclusive and non-exclusive licenses.

I know this licensing landscape very well. Most licensing agreements are non-exclusive. What makes the difference is the partner you choose to work with, the relationship you build with them, and how everyone involved conducts themselves.

I have walked away from opportunities when I became aware that another company might be pursuing the same property under a similar agreement. As a collector and as a business owner, I am not comfortable knowingly putting two companies in that position.

It can hurt our company. It can hurt the other company. Most importantly, it can hurt the fans of that property.
That is not a win for anyone.

I respect the other manufacturers and the work it takes to bring a great pinball machine to market. It is difficult enough without companies intentionally stepping on each other by using the same IP.

We are excited to share the next chapter of Barrels of Fun with everyone very soon. Our games are planned far in advance, and we cannot wait for you to finally see what the team has created.

Totally agree. People massively over-index theme. It'll earn the machine a look, but if it doesn't check the other boxes, theme cannot save it/sell it.

I swear the failure rate on people saying "This will be the last time I reply / check / look at this thread (until...)" is 100%. Would have Polymarketed that but I only had a 4 hour window!

I don’t understand why they would be on Pinside if they aren’t into the “what’s next” game? If you want the release info without all the drama you can just get on a BOF dealers list and they will email you when it’s announced. Instead they just bring their own version of drama…

Class act as usual and thank you for the insight. We hope the BoF folk realize that (most of) the chatter is just because, to use a secular metaphor, it's like an unsupervised sleepaway camp bunk on Christmas eve in here. We're dying to know what's under the tree! Keep up the great work. And I've never been this excited for a duck before.

Looks like they are officially taking DCC off the table. I think that’s the only hint they are giving. That was probably a smart and well timed message because people had been hoping for it. Pinside likes to be surprised when the surprises are good.

They are no doubt monitoring this page so they know the page is coalescing around BJ now but they are still talking about wanting people to be surprised. My needle is bending back towards “nicely done” on planting some misdirection late in the game to maintain the surprise.

Otherwise this post would look very off key retrospectively if they just announce the same Bon Jovi that a bunch of people announced and then Kaneda put his signature exclamation point on.

Things are looking up again!

Jess was telling me other day their nda for employees is by far strictest in the business. And honestly the are the only company that doesn't leak. Its pretty impressive. I just threw down the $75 and if I want it ill grab it. They are my favorite company though. Have a labyrinth and dune and have been kicking myself for months I didn't grab a damn Winchester.

Yep. Any publicity is good publicity too. He gets shown to be a complete tool once again, but I bet you there's 10 noobs who don't know who he is that just signed up and paid money for his podcast.

I love the fact that BoF as much as any reason wants to keep the game secret because of the excitement of the reveal. Between that and the rubber ducky they're going to send me, they've sure done a lot recently as a company to win me over.

Of course I am going away on vacation during high time of likely announcement. I am a Reserve member so should be fine, but man, I don’t want to be #750 out of 800 or something. Also don’t want to be the first.
