China Aims to Boost Renewable Energy Consumption 53% by 2030

China wants renewable energy consumption to jump 53% over the next five years and to convert intermittent wind and solar into more dependable sources of electricity.

Renewable power use should rise to about 1.8 billion tons of coal equivalent by 2030, up from 1.18 billion tons in 2025, according to a five-year plan for renewables published on the National Development and Reform Commission’s website. China has already set 2030 targets for renewables capacity and for non-fossil fuel share of total energy consumption.
