[Work in progress]
"Do not feed the trolls", also known as "deny recognition to the trolls", is a commonly followed principle in online communities. How about we apply the very same principle to our corporate and political overlords the next time they feel like taking our freedoms away?
The only solution is not complying with the oppressors' fantasies, by cutting them off. Linux distributors should simply stop distributing in states that want this age verification crap, and blacklist their IP addresses. The same goes for regions that demand ID verification for social media.[1] This is the only effective way to treat policymakers who lost touch with reality.
Oppressors need to be starved, not fed. Complying with the oppressor ("feeding the oppressor") makes them want more and more. First, they make laws against outsmarting Digital Restrictions Malware. Then they force operating system developers to add age verification.[2][3] Next, they could mandate corporate/government backdoors in computers, similar to what North Korea did with Red Star OS. It happening on a distant part of the world doesn't mean it can't happen here.[4]
Android developer verification
[edit | edit source]- Main article: Android Developer Verification
KeepAndroidOpen.org puts it succinctly:
DevelopersDO NOT SIGN UP. Don't join the program by signing up for the Android Developer Console and agreeing to their irrevocable Terms and Conditions. Don't verify your identity. Don't play ball.
Google's plan only works if developers comply. Don't.
Operating system age verification
[edit | edit source]As of July 2026, only two US states require the age verification nonsense: California and Colorado.
Why should age verification be implemented in Linux worldwide just because two states lost touch with reality? A much more sensible solution would be to cut these two states out.
UK online safety act
[edit | edit source]It is a bit extreme, however, this problem goes away in a matter of weeks if you do what I suggest you do.

Streaming service DRM
[edit | edit source]Various music streaming platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud have implemented Digital Restrictions Malware. Of course, the reason they are able to is because web browser makers cave into the demand.
Unfortunately, with the DRM-happy Google[5] being the dominant web browser provider, others like Mozilla will be forced to comply if they don't wish to lose their small remaining userbase.
When banks and Netflix start using it, they've effectively cornered other engines into implementing it. – Louis Rossmann[6]
