So, it won't require an internet connection once you are logged in?

I bet it will mysteriously log you out a lot, no matter what settings you select. Gotta mine that sweet sweet user data to sell.

This is an absolute dealbreaker for a dash cam.

Last time I buy or recommended BV. Requiring me to logon and create a profile just to update my camera or get video is a huge red flag. No thanks.

They've been removing so many features over the years I am sure this one will go away soon. It's the only thing keeping me on their dashcam.

Accessing your photos on WiFi is the only thing that keeps you from switching out your Blackvue for another product?

That is correct.

I will admit I do like the viewer desktop application and how it'll play both the front and rear cameras at the same time along with a map. But that's not super critical. A local copy of the video files is what matters most for us. If there was another dashcam product that allowed us to download or upload the videos to a local on premise file server I'd give it a try immediately.

I'm not sure I was clear on the whole scope - this feature is a common comment i make about blackvue so sometimes i forget if i've already included the finer details of what I mean when i talk about "wifi on the dashcams".

I'm talking about blackvue's feature where the dashcam connects to "home" wifi and making it's videos accessible. We then have a script on a file server that downloads those videos for review and archiving.

and now that i've expanded the comment i see that this feature was actually the very first thing you posted that i responded to. so yeah - i've yet to find another dashcam that does this. but if i do and it works i could see myself switching all of our dashcams immediately - especially if it allows for multiple hotspots like blackvue used to do but no longer does.

Acknowledge- although to me the fine point didn't actually sink in. 

I so rarely want to pull footage, I'm happy it eventually all gets deleted unless I mark it with the "manual recording" button.

I'm the same way with my personal dashcams - the video is just there in case I need it, which I rarely do.

But this is for our business. We have vehicles that are out in the public (trash trucks for example) and we'll have people call saying we skipped their trash one day, or hit their fence, or whatever. We can pull up the footage and say "yep, your trash can was clearly out at the curb and we drove right by it we'll come pick it up in just a bit" or "The dashcam footage shows your trashcan up next to your house and not at the curb. You can wait until next week or for $X we can make a special trip and come pick it up today."

Or we use it to get a better idea of a route - the gps data is really valuable for something like that.

What's funny is our drivers were furious when we first installed them. But they've come to appreciate them as the dashcams have been able to prove that the drivers were not in the wrong multiple times.

I logged in to the new web-based FLEETA site on my PC and noticed the world map that used to show all the live cameras around the world is no longer there. I can only see my own single camera on the map. I also downloaded the new FLEETA IOS app to my phone and see there is no longer an option to let others see your camera. I called BlackVue and asked them why they would change the functionality that was previously on the legacy web viewer. He didn’t have an answer. I asked him why any single user like myself would want to pay extra for the Fleet plan if they can only see one camera. He said their developers are going to be updating the website and that should reinstate the world map functionality. I’ll believe it when I see it. I don’t think they thought out this whole FLEETA upgrade.

Locking everything behind a subscription is coming. The writing has been on the wall for years as they've been slowly removing features and moving services to their paid platform.

I'm sure they've done the math and figured the increase in income from those that stay will outweigh the loss from those of us that switch to a different brand.

Frustrating and disappointing. They had a solid product and it's going downhill due to greed.
