I'm not sure why the reviews are so bad. It didn't feel any better or worse than the other films. The only negative I have to say about it is that it ends on a cliffhanger, followed by a bunch of other films I definitely don't want to watch. But that's only having knowledge in hindsight.

It's still a solid film, but it's really not much better than the first one, which I also gave four stars. Increasing the runtime by decreasing the action and increasing exposition, monologue, and story scenes didn't do it any favours. The child actor was also just really corny. It's obvious he was instructed to act like an adult thinks a child would behave like.

This two-hour movie felt like 10 minutes, leaving me wanting so much more content. The mix of political and social commentary against the backdrop of a god destroying your home was extremely gripping.
Shin Godzilla is such a paw-inspiring movie that I feel too stupid to actually give it a proper review of how I feel about it. I'd need to watch this nine more times before I could begin to articulate the power it gives off.
A great way to end the show, and a much better way to handle the situation than my family did.
