The Parrot Theory
Aside from a few non-canon appearances and this, Parrots don't appear in One Piece. You could say it's because Oda didn't use other stereotypical pirate garb either (eyepatches, peglegs and handhooks are rarely seen in One Piece) but I have a theory, Parrots are well known for their intelligence and long lifespans, so maybe The World Government killed all the Parrots because they knew too much about The Void Century and they were used for long distance communication (before the Den Den Mushi) Parrots might possibly still exist on Laugh Tale, were an old one might tell a message from Gol D. Roger from beyond the grave

saw a theory a few years ago that the one piece was a hidden atrium on laughtale where roger hid all his gold filled with parrots that repeat the history of the world to each other and imu thought he killed them all but missed this one, and the reason roger laughed is because its bloody hilarious seeing birds mimic the worlds oldest secrets, and its called laughtale is because now some parrots repeat the laugh of the pirate king,
And parrots are keen to make people laugh. Roger's egg was a parrot egg.
I dread that this might actually be the case.
We have fantasy toucans, talking pigeons, and classic seagulls, but no parrots.
Now I'm picturing Imu either strangling or breaking a poor parrot's neck while giggling in a disturbing manner.
