Karol Nawrocki, the national-conservative head of the Institute of National Remembrance, is a candidate backed by Law and Justice (PiS), although he formally calls himself a “civic candidate.” In the “March for Poland” stretching through Nowy Świat and Krakowskie Przedmieście streets, organizers reported 200,000 participants - the media, citing unofficial data from Warsaw police, reported 50,000 supporters. The election is particularly significant from the point of view of the Polish political system, in which cooperation between the government and the president is required to implement new legislation. The president's veto, which requires a 3/5 majority in parliament to override, is a strong prerogative that determines whether or not the government's electoral proposals are realized. After the results of the first round, there was a correction in the polls in favor of Nawrocki. Now both candidates have a week left to convince voters - especially right-wing populist S. Mentzen and far-right EU-hardliner G. Braun but also left-wing A. Zandberg. However more important than persuasion will be mobilizing one's own voters to squeeze the maximum possible out of the electorate.
