The long-known to be highly politicized Games Done Quick has canceled a sponsored SNK speedrunning showcase less than three hours after it began, saying it will return the sponsorship money following community backlash over the publisher’s ties to Saudi Arabia.
Shortly after announcing a partnership with SNK to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Metal Slug series, Games Done Quick found itself facing criticism from members of its community over the publisher’s ownership.
The showcase went live on July 12, but just two hours and 43 minutes later, GDQ announced that it had canceled the event. In a statement posted to social media, the organization said:
SNK has been owned by Electronic Gaming Development Company (EGDC) since 2022. EGDC is itself owned by the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation, a Saudi nonprofit chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Saudi Arabia has expanded its presence in the gaming industry in recent years through investments in publishers, esports, and gaming events, including ownership of EVO and the creation of the Esports World Cup.
The controversy comes shortly after Summer Games Done Quick 2026, which raised approximately $2.8 million for Doctors Without Borders, reinforcing GDQ’s reputation as one of gaming’s largest charity fundraising organizations.
Why? They’re pandering to the western foids and trannies by shrinking all the girls tits and putting them in burkas, just like they did to Mai.
