New Tenchi Muyo! Anime Pilot Soon Launching Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page

Auto Draft

Retro classic Tenchi Muyo! is getting a new fan-backed anime project titled Tenchi Galaxy, with original Tenchi Universe director Hiroshi Negishi returning to direct a pilot episode.

The project, titled Tenchi Galaxy, has opened its pre-launch page and is being developed by Armiger Entertainment as a pilot episode. According to the campaign description, the story follows the Tenchi cast as they travel to the space pirate planet Mikuni in search of an artifact stolen from Jurai.

The announcement also confirms the return of most characters from previous seasons. Though, most notably, the project is set to be directed by Hiroshi Negishi, the director of Tenchi Universe and several other Tenchi Muyo! projects.

Tenchi Galaxy is being positioned as a spiritual sequel to Tenchi Universe, rather than a continuation of the main Ryo-Ohki continuity. Toru Miura, president of AIC, is attached as producer, and several English voice actors from the franchise are expected to reprise their roles (confirmed at least for the English dub), with Cristina Vee stepping in as Ayeka.

Originally launched in the 1990s, Tenchi Muyo! became one of the defining harem sci-fi anime franchises, spawning multiple continuities including Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, GXP, and War on Geminar.

Curiously enough, the Kickstarter page contains text in English as well as Japanese, and the prelaunch trailer also features the English dub cast:

The Kickstarter campaign has not yet gone live, but fans can currently follow the pre-launch page to be notified when funding opens.
