Look, I've been in a similar position as the woman in the video.

I have BPD traits (which are mostly under control now, thankfully) and when I was 18 I got the idea that I would be happier as a woman. Wild thought. Hit me like a bolt of lightning, so I felt it must be true. Went through lots of research, never came out to anyone except one of my female friends who was bi. She was supportive of me. I fought with the idea back and forth, grew my hair out, started actong more feminine, was going to go through with hormones, everything.

I think people picked up on it even if I didn't officially come out. One night I stayed up late having drinks and chatting with my dad. It got late and we called it a night, but before we went to bed he told me that he'd accept me no matter who I wanted to be. It felt really good. Our relationship was strained at points, but as he's gotten older he's made great efforts to work on himself and repair what he can, and I think this was one of his efforts

Well, wouldn't you fucking know it, my trans thoughts diminished quite rapidly and significantly. One of the BPD symptoms I've experienced is identity diffusion, and it would really appear as though this is what caused my transgender ideation, because it was something I could positivley latch onto and the rhetoric surrounding it is "you can't tell me my identity is wrong!!"... which is true excepting the case of identity disturbance or identity diffusion.

I do think some people are legitimately transgender; they get the hormone treatment and surgeries and whatever and they're happy for the first time in their life. But, some people present gender/body dysphoria and have a different underlying issue that should be addressed first. In the trans community there's pushback against gatekeeping hormone therapy or reassignment surgery... but these things are good and should exist. You should be evaluated to see if it would truly solve your problems.

I'm 30 now, and I think back every now and again to this period of my life. I did it last month and it feels completely foreign to me now. I'm glad I hesitated to, and ultimately didn't, go through with gender reassignment treatment or whatever it is they call it now.
