Vietnamese authorities have arrested seven people accused of operating HiAnime, one of the world’s largest anime piracy websites, following a multi-year international investigation involving U.S. and Vietnamese law enforcement.
According to the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the arrests followed a multi-year investigation involving Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Department of Justice. The suspects are accused of copyright infringement through the copying and online distribution of films and television shows.
HiAnime was widely regarded as the world’s largest anime piracy website before it suddenly shut down in March 2026. Formerly known as Zoro.to and later AniWatch, the site attracted hundreds of millions of monthly visits at its peak—at one point drawing more traffic than legal streaming services such as Disney+ in several markets.
According to investigators, the seven suspects allegedly operated not only HiAnime but more than 100 piracy websites, distributing an estimated 26,000 movies and television series without authorization. Vietnamese authorities say the operation generated substantial advertising revenue while infringing the copyrights of entertainment companies worldwide.
ACE praised the arrests, stating:
“Actions such as this demonstrate our determination to pursue all avenues to disrupt and dismantle illegal streaming networks, reinforcing the protection of the creative community worldwide.”
The arrests mark one of the most significant anti-anime piracy enforcement actions in recent years. While HiAnime’s shutdown in March removed one of the internet’s largest illegal anime streaming platforms, authorities say this latest operation targets the people believed to have been responsible for running it.

Absolute clown world s♥♥t seeing piracy and a more pressing issue than grooming gangs an illegals in general.

Why is the US involved in this?
This is another attempt to neuter anime.
Once the pirate sites are gone nothing will stop the gaijins from censoring anime. Even the japs are self censoring themselves…….
There will ALWAYS be another HiAnime. When a piracy site like HiAnime goes down, there will ALWAYS be 2 more to to take its place like a hydra.
So either give the people what they want, or piracy will ALWAYS continue no matter how many websites get taken down and pirates getting arrested.
Doesn’t “Distribution” mean “selling”? The site was free to use.
Those are two different words, brown, ESL retard.
