When Carolina Moreno tries to recall the moment she gave birth to her little boy, some of the memories are a bit fuzzy — because she wasn't awake when it happened.

In a now viral video on TikTok, the Canada-based mom of three, 27, recalled the "traumatizing" experience she had when giving birth to her youngest, now 3 months old.

Moreno begins the clip by explaining that she tested positive for GBS (Group B Streptococcus bacteria) positve when she went in for her induction, meaning that she needed to be given antibiotics before breaking her water. While labour with her other two kids lasted much longer, Moreno says that this time around, she was already 3 cm dilated, and her cervix was thin, which is why they wanted to begin her on antibiotics right away.

A few hours later, nurses broke Moreno's water and they started to administer Pitocin, a drug used to stimulate labour. Moreno recalls feeling "really uncomfortable" at the time, and that her baby was not in a good position, so she called in for her epidural.

After an hour had gone by, Moreno, who is also mom to a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old with husband Jorge Carrera, still hadn't felt the epidural kick in. She says she hit the button to administer an extra dose three more times before finally getting comfortable. Eventually, Moreno says she drifted off to sleep, with her husband, her sister and cousin also in the room.

While Moreno was asleep, nurses had been coming into the room to check on the baby's heartbeat. "The alarm went off on the monitor, which happens when the heartbeat isn't found, so my nurse came in to find it again," she tells PEOPLE. "This had happened several times; my baby was very active and he liked to move."

"Sometimes I'd adjust myself, and I'd move the monitor by accident, so we weren't overly worried when she initially came in, and I was still pretty asleep," she recalls. "But as the minutes passed, I started to get worried because obviously she's not finding him...that's when I really woke up."

Once Moreno was awake and the nurse was still trying to find the baby, panic set in. She recalls asking if she should lie on her back, to which the nurse agreed and said, "Just lie on your back, we'll find him."

"When I turn on my back, her hands are still on my stomach, and that's when she points out that my stomach feels really weird," Moreno said in her video. "In that moment, I don't know why I just thought, my baby's dead."

When Moreno went to adjust her legs, she said she felt something on the bed.

"I swear I thought it was gonna be like my placenta or my uterus had popped out or...I never thought it was going to be my baby," she recalled. "And [the nurse] lifts up the blanket, and my son is face down under all of my blankets."

"He's face down. He's not crying. And I just panic. I freak out," she continued. "Obviously, you see a baby, and he's not crying, and he's probably been there for several minutes under blankets, under you. That's everything a newborn shouldn't be. So I was really scared. I didn't think he was alive."

The nurse swiftly picked up Moreno's baby and started to rub him. "I am screaming. I screamed at my husband," Moreno recalled. "He thought he missed the birth. He just didn't realize we all missed the birth."

Even after the nurse got her son crying, Moreno said she couldn't "really process that he was okay," and that the whole experience left her feeling "really traumatized."

Looking back on the delivery, Moreno tells PEOPLE, "It was a huge shock to find him [under the blankets]...turns out he was sleeping, and he's just a very chill baby, still to this day you just lay him down, and he falls asleep, he's just not a crier."

"The nurse didn't deliver him; he delivered himself," she adds. "We had no idea he was even out, which is actually what made it so scary at first, since they couldn't find his heartbeat, since he wasn't in me anymore. We just thought something horrible had happened."

Now that her son is 3 months old, Moreno says she feels "very lucky" and that her baby boy is "absolutely amazing and was born in perfect health."

"He's also our easiest baby and the adjustment has been seamless," she adds. "It was incredibly scary finding him on his stomach under the blankets, not crying, but now that we know his personality, it really makes sense, he's just the most calm baby."

An Australian social media personality claimed that she had been unaware of her pregnancy for its first five months. Miss Moore believed that there were other explanations for the lack of periods, tiredness, and nausea.

Alex Paige Moore, a former dental nurse and creator of social media content, claims that she had no reason to suspect her pregnancy at 21 years old. She suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome; therefore, the absence of periods could not be considered abnormal since sometimes she has one or two periods a year.

Moreover, other symptoms had other explanations. Heartburn coincided with her intake of pre-workout supplements. A night of vomiting had taken place after she stayed out until 3 a.m., so she thought it was just a heavy night instead of morning sickness. Fainting and fatigue made her suspect that she may be developing an eating disorder.

Moore's mother persuaded her to visit a doctor. The girl had some blood tests but did not receive the results for a month, despite her mother's persuasion. The staff told her everything was fine and said that she was pregnant. In the end, she bluntly asked, "What? I'm pregnant?"

The ultrasound revealed that Moore was about five months pregnant, which was later than she expected. This was possible because the baby's position was posterior, meaning its spine was pressed against hers, and she had an anterior placenta that blocked all movement of the baby. The noticeable belly became apparent about a week or two later.

This was a difficult period for Moore. She lived at home and had an unhealthy relationship; therefore, she and her partner initially believed that the termination of the pregnancy was the right solution when they found out about the age of the pregnancy. During the whole pregnancy, she worried about the health of the child after she had consumed alcohol during the undetected pregnancy. She claims that she was nervous the whole time, but her daughter was born healthy.

After the child's birth, Moore's relationship with the baby's father ended. The first thing that the young woman did was to get breast implants, which she calls an investment, but not a vain thing: "I figured these wouldn't make money as saggy little things."

Moore had financial difficulties during that period, earning about $30,000 per year as a dental nurse and unable to afford a house. Besides, she paid for the formula and got free housing from her mother. Therefore, she thought, "There's no way I'm ever going to buy a house or move out." She even spoke about creating an OnlyFans account while still having relations with her partner, whom she called "disgusting."

Moore created the page with the assistance of her friend. Her initial income was about $800 to $2,000 a week, which grew to about $100,000 a month in a few months. Moreover, Moore says, "I was not going back to being a dental nurse."

Moore is currently paying about $12,000 a year in child support to her ex-partner, who keeps criticizing her. He still finds digs at Moore, calling her disgusting, but he is glad to receive money.

A toddler discovered in a backyard pool in a Phoenix suburb in February was declared dead before being found breathing hours later in a room that serves as the hospital morgue, according to recently released police records.

Two Gilbert police officers saw possible signs of life multiple times, but the child was still taken to the hospital's "cold room" after being treated by staff, according to the documents.

"Please do your thing and let me do my thing," Dr. Aryan Toosi told an officer at one point, according to the report. "I went to medical school for a reason."

First responders were dispatched to the home at about 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 in response to a reported drowning. They performed life-saving measures on the child before taking him to a hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead about an hour later.

About five hours later, police were notified that the child was indeed breathing, and he was flown to another hospital. The boy ultimately survived and has been released.

Boy survived but his parents are under scrutiny

Gilbert police are recommending negligence charges against the parents. Investigators said there was a strong odor of marijuana at the home and open doors that could have allowed unsupervised access to the pool. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office said it was reviewing the case and declined further comment Monday.

In 911 calls, two relatives frantically reported that the child had been pulled from the pool as people at the scene could be heard shrieking. One caller reported the toddler was unconscious.

No one answered at the home where the near-drowning occurred when an Associated Press photographer knocked there Monday.

Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, where the 18-month-old was taken, said in a statement that the hospital conducted "a thorough review of all aspects of the care provided to learn what happened and to make meaningful changes to strengthen our care."

The hospital called it "a heartbreaking situation" and declined to release further details.

When a team from the local medical examiner's office arrived in the so-called cold room, they found the boy breathing and rushed him to another hospital, police said.

Doctor's lawyer says there's more to know

Scott Holden, an attorney for Toosi, told the AP that he wouldn't make a full statement on behalf of the doctor "other than to assure you that there is much more to this case, both factually and medically, than has been reported thus far."

A GoFundMe page, which was created in February to help the boy's family with medical bills, said the toddler would need extensive therapy.

An ABC affiliate in Phoenix, KNXV-TV, was the first to report the story.

There have been other cases of people discovered alive after being declared dead. In Southfield, Michigan, Timesha Beauchamp, a 20-year-old with cerebral palsy, was declared dead by a doctor over the phone in 2020. City paramedics had responded to a 911 call at her family's home.

Later that day, a funeral home opened the body bag and found Beauchamp gasping for air. She was swiftly taken to a hospital but never recovered and died two months later. Southfield settled a negligence lawsuit filed by the family for $3.25 million.

Mistaken death declarations are rare but do happen

Cases in which someone is mistakenly declared dead and later found to be alive are rare, but they do happen, said Dr. Judy Melinek, a forensic pathologist in San Francisco who is not associated with the case. "It tends to be much more common in elderly people than in children or toddlers," she said.

"The criteria of death require no heartbeat, no breathing, and no brain activity or neurologic activity," Melinek said. There were times when people were breathing very shallowly or intermittently, so medical practitioners had to wait a few minutes before the declaration, she added.

According to Melinek, determining death depends on a doctor's skill and training, and policies may differ from hospital to hospital. "It's either someone inexperienced got involved or a policy failure," she said. "Because people, once they're dead, they don't come back to life — that doesn't happen."

The video begins with Peggy lying inside the puppy pen, her chin resting on the floor while one of her blue-coated puppies nestles right against her snout. The little one has somehow managed to turn Peggy's face into the perfect place for an afternoon nap. Pups are all heart and no logic.

Then comes the sweetest part. Without even opening his eyes, the sleepy pup stretches from nose to tail. Tiny pink toe beans pop into view, little legs reach forward, and those miniature paws land squarely across Peggy's nose. She gives the slightest flinch when the tiny nails brush her snout, but that's about all the reaction she has. She never moves away or disturbs her baby.

A second later, the puppy curls right back into place, and the two settle into another cuddle as though nothing happened. The simple clip has already picked up more than 39.4K likes in just a day, with viewers completely melting over the peaceful family moment.

One person admitted that the moment is "so beautiful," they could happily watch it on repeat. Meanwhile, another joked that those tiny red paws deserved all the attention. One viewer even simply wished they could climb into the cuddle themselves.

The account's caption summed it up perfectly, saying the sweetest memories are often the everyday ones. For Peggy, that meant patiently letting her little baby snuggle, stretch, and drift back to sleep without interrupting a single cozy moment.

After surviving breast cancer, a mom has now been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. 

In 2021, Amy Carroll — a 34-year-old tattoo model from Northamptonshire, England — was diagnosed with breast cancer. She discovered the disease when getting cosmetic surgery after finishing breastfeeding her third son. 

"I had my boys quite young and my boobs looked different, so I went and had breast surgery," she told Southwest News Service. "That was when I noticed the little lump that turned out to be breast cancer. I ended up having chemotherapy, radiotherapy and eight different surgeries."

"I'm past the point of caring what my boobs look like now but that cosmetic surgery saved my life as I wouldn't have known I had cancer then," she said.

After overcoming breast cancer, Carroll thought she was in the clear. But due to the intense chemotherapy, she was told that she would not be able to have any more children. She was a mom to three boys, ages 8, 12 and 18.

However, in December 2025, she was thrilled to learn that she was pregnant with her fourth child.

"After my breast cancer treatment, I was told I could never have kids so this baby is a miracle," she said. "We found out over Christmas and the baby was due on my birthday, which felt extra special."

Shortly after becoming pregnant, Carroll started feeling sick. Doctors diagnosed her with gestational diabetes, a type of high blood sugar that develops during pregnancy in people who do not already have diabetes. It's fairly common, but she had not experienced it with her first three pregnancies.

"I was feeling a bit dizzy and faint but thought it was a side effect of the diabetes and tried to shake it off," she recalled.

Carroll's symptoms ultimately progressed. On June 17, she was in bed around 3 a.m. when she suffered a seizure next to her partner Torrin Sirus, 36. 

"My partner woke up to me having a seizure and an ambulance rushed me to hospital, I don't remember any of that," she admitted.

At the hospital, Carroll underwent a CT scan and MRI. Two days later, doctors told her that she had stage 4 brain cancer after seven tumors were discovered. 

The diagnosis was devastating for her and her family, but Carroll had no time to process it. Doctors told her that she needs to give birth immediately so that she can start treatment.

She is expected to undergo an emergency C-section on July 6 at 31 weeks and begin radiation and chemotherapy the following week.

"They said babies at this age should recover well and the doctors have been very reassuring," she told the outlet. "We have decided to name him Arlo Atlas Sirus."

"When I start treatment, I won't be able to be with the baby all the time which is going to break me, I've got to see how I am after each treatment.," she continued. "When I do have chemotherapy, I won't be able to touch him at all, which will be so hard."

Carroll admitted that she's worried about the possible side effects from her upcoming treatment plan, and she can't help but think about the "worst case scenario."

"There are so many potential complications after these surgeries, including memory loss, balance issues, loss of eyesight, inability to talk," she said. "I just don't want to forget my life and my kids, I just don't want to lose that."

Despite the journey ahead, Carroll is hoping for a good outcome and recognizes that her situation could've been worse.

"This pregnancy saved my life because I didn't realize I was ill," she said.
