Tom Hanks riled Donald Trump supporters on Sunday with the return of his MAGA-touting hillbilly character on Saturday Night Live.

The veteran actor was one of dozens of SNL alums who appeared on the sketch show's 50th-anniversary special.

In one skit, Hanks appears as a man named Doug on a parody game show called Black Jeopardy hosted by Kenan Thompson. The sketch originally aired in a 2016 episode.

For the part, Hanks wore a red "Make America Great Again" hat in addition to a flannel shirt and T-shirt with a bald eagle on it. Despite not being part of the game show's demographic, the Southern man is hilariously still capable of correctly answering the questions.

In the initial sketch, Doug backs away from the show's host when he tries to shake his hand before eventually caving in.

Once again, Doug hesitated before shaking the host's hand in Sunday's episode. "Don't like that, whoa, whoa, whoa," he tells Thompson's character Darnell Hayes, adding during another point of the sketch, "Maybe I'll start a show for you to come on and we'll call it White Jeopardy."

On X, prominent Republicans tore into the sketch over Hanks's portrayal.

"Tom Hanks went on SNL dressed like a slob mocking millions of Trump supporters - portraying them as dumb, racist, rednecks," one post began. "Keep it up libs. You'll never win another election again."

Popular right-wing commentator Benny Johnson raged: "Donald Trump just won a landslide election and has never been more popular with Americans. They have learned nothing."

Another conservative commentator, Mario Nawfal, wrote: "Hollywood still doesn't get it: Portraying Trump supporters as racist caricatures while he's winning record minority support. SNL's trying 2016 jokes in 2025."

Former Robert F. Kennedy Jr. aide Link Lauren also weighed in on the sketch, claiming that Hanks's character is why the show isn't receiving higher ratings.

"Tom Hanks just came out on SNL in a MAGA hat for a bit where he acted like he didn't want to shake a black man's hand," his post began. "This show wonders why their ratings are in the gutter. Trump won the popular vote. This tired trope that MAGA is racist is disgusting. SNL is an unfunny show for snobbish liberal elites. The current Republican Party is a big tent coalition compromised of many former Democrats. Good riddance, SNL!"

Elsewhere in the episode, Meryl Streep won praise for her performance in the recurring Close Encounters sketch, in which Pentagon officials played by Jon Hamm and Aidy Bryant interview characters who claim to have been abducted by aliens.

Fans claimed Streep did such a good job playing the mother of Kate McKinnon's Colleen Rafferty — who often regales her explicit rendezvous with extraterrestrials — that she deserved an Emmy.

The Princess of Wales, 44, completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in support of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity late last month.

In a Sunday, July 5, Instagram post, Kate shared a carousel of new photos from the aftermath of her trek, when she was joined and supported by her husband, Prince William, and their three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.

"This time last week, completing the National Three Peaks Challenge," Kate captioned her post. "A huge thank you to everybody who has supported The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity."

A first photo shows Kate hugging William, 44, while dressed in her athletic wear. A follow-up image shows Kate posing with her three kids. Prince George just about towers over his mother in the snapshot.

The third and fourth images show Kate and William with their three kids, while the next shows Kate having a bonding moment with daughter Charlotte. In the background, Louis can be seen playing with a dog.

A subsequent photo shows Princess Kate hugging Charlotte, and the next sees the mother of three placing a hand on her eldest child with a warm smile.

The final image in the carousel sees Kate, William and their three kids posing with the Princess of Wales' parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother, James Middleton. 

Princess Kate participated in the challenge to support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity's effort to help patients facing the illness.

The London-based organization helps fund research and initiatives to benefit cancer patients during and after treatment, per its website. 

In an emotional message shared on the organization's website, Kate wrote, "I have taken on the National Three Peaks Challenge, not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back."

"The Royal Marsden is a place that holds great meaning for me and whose care and expertise are life-changing for so many people," she added.

The challenge Kate took part in involved climbing the highest summits in Scotland, England and Wales — Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, respectively — within 24 hours. 

The challenge covers 23 miles of hiking, with a total elevation gain of 10,052 feet, per ThreePeaksChallenge.uk.

Kate's final climb was Snowdon. That is where she was met at the end by her family, Buckingham Palace previously confirmed.

The Princess of Wales announced in March 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for cancer and retreated from the public eye.

Six months later, she shared that she had completed chemotherapy, and Kate revealed that she was in remission from cancer in January 2025.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are "very excited" to potentially meet their grandfather, but don't "have any concept" of who their royal relatives really are, HELLO! can reveal. 

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are raising their two children as "normal little kids" in Montecito, California, but they're seemingly unaware that Charles is actually the King. 

Archie, seven, and Lili, five, are thought to be excited about being on holiday and the prospect of meeting King Charles if they come to the UK next week. 

For them, any meeting would be just that – with their grandfather, rather than with the King.

A friend of Harry and Meghan tells HELLO!: "The truth is they don't really have any concept about who they (the royal family) are, their parents are very good at keeping them away from it all so they live as normal little kids."

Prince Harry is also said to be in "frequent" contact with his father, HELLO! understands. 

When did Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet last see their grandfather?

King Charles has long awaited a reunion with his grandchildren on the Sussex side. Archie and Lilibet were last in the UK in 2022 for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 

Prince Archie was born in the UK in 2019 when Harry and Meghan were still working royals, meaning he spent time with his royal relatives. However, Princess Lilibet was born in California in June 2021.  

Her visit to the UK in 2022 is the only known time she's met her grandfather in person. 

It's unclear whether she has ever met her royal cousins, Prince William and Kate's children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight. 

Harry last met his father last September for a brief reunion at Clarence House during one of his visits to the UK for charity events.

Prince Harry and Meghan's UK travel plans confirmed

It comes as it was revealed that Prince Harry will visit the UK next week, but his wife and children will not join him in London. 

The Duke of Sussex, 41, will carry out a five-day visit from 7 to 11 July, but the rest of his family will not travel to the capital. 

However, HELLO! understands that no decision has formally been made for the rest of the week yet. 

This means it hasn't been confirmed whether Meghan, Archie and Lilibet will join Harry outside of London. On Friday, it was revealed that his security detail was "still looking at options" to help the visit go ahead. 

Harry will also be visiting Birmingham for the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games.
