[Verse 2]
You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow
Maybe a reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time, you'll know

[Pre-Chorus]
You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine

Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

[Chorus]
'Cause baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, "Ah, ah, ah"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, "Ah, ah, ah"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe
[Bridge]
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it throu-ou-ough

[Chorus]
'Cause baby, you're a firework
Come on show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, "Ah, ah, ah,"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, "Ah, ah, ah"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

[Outro]
"Boom, boom, boom"
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
"Boom, boom, boom"

Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

About

Song Bio

“Firework” is a song by American singer Katy Perry from her third studio album, Teenage Dream. The song was released as the third single, following the success of singles “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream”.

Lyrically, “Firework” is meant to be an inspiration for anyone who’s ever felt worthless or unloved. Its message that everyone is beautiful and capable of leaving the world in awe really resonates with artist Katy Perry.

In fact, she has said that “Firework” is her favorite of all the songs she’s ever written. In an interview at the Grammy’s, she said that she was inspired to write the song after reading a paragraph in Jack Kerouac’s novel On the Road.

Tor Erik Hermansen:

Katy basically sat down and wrote the top line to that song together with Ester Dean in a short time. At the end of the night she said, “Let’s record the song tomorrow,” and we said, “No no no, can’t we just lay down a rough scratch vocal tonight, just so we have something to listen to?” In 10 minutes she sang the song two or three times, and we pieced the vocals together. I would say 95 percent of what you hear on the finished record is from that demo. She had played us a couple of the other songs that were going on [2010’s Teenage Dream], like “California Gurls,” and they were obviously huge smashes. But we also knew that she was a better singer than a lot of people thought at the time, and we wanted to highlight that. One of the things we told her was, “We’re not going to do any harmonies, we’re not going to do any fancy vocal takes, it’s just going to be you singing it raw.” I think it’s one of her finest performances, because she wasn’t thinking, she wasn’t trying to be perfect, it was just from the heart. She really took the lead on writing that song. We had no idea it was going to become [such an anthem] when she wrote it. I like that it’s about being yourself. A lot of times you just end up writing about relationships, but this had that inspirational message to it. And the video is brilliant, highlighting people of different races and different sexualities. It was a really great moment to be a part of. I actually went a few months ago to my kid’s school, they have these Friday gatherings, and they sang the song. It still means a lot to people who probably weren’t even born when the song came out."

Mikkel Storleer Eriksen:

She’s a really good writer. That’s what makes it all worthwhile. You know you’ve succeeded when you can create something that goes on to live its own life and actually mean something to someone."

Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road

Sometimes the things that you want are actually not the best choices for you. If you followed the path in life that you really wanted, it would prevent you from taking another road. You didn’t realize it at the time, but there was a better opportunity waiting for you. So not getting what you desire can turn out to be a really good thing, because it frees you to be able to choose something greater.
