former support staffer here. original discord never had any real moderation, if your account got flagged the company operated with the belief its easier to play it safe automating all bans to be permanent forcing the burden of making a new account on users to pump up their own numbers. discord blew up that old moderation system around 2021? but not before preemptively banning roughly 180,000 accounts for ''inappropriate language'' you can guess to. Afterwhich they introduced strikes which has been using AI moderation. ironically for two years that was the only time discord had a functional moderation protocol in place, AI would overturn most bans which would previously only be met with a bot email stating ''we reviewed x, found y, no we wont provide proof, goodbye''.

In mid 2024 discord began heavily expanding AI moderation by passively scanning all servers leading upto the crisis its caused now with seemingly random bans effecting servers with several thousand users down to a handful. If you own a private server only -you- reside in with any images posted, you're at risk of the AI nuking it and your account via false attributing certain material its schizophrenically scanning for. I got cycled out in early 2025 (nobody there stays longer than 4 years) and two of my accounts have been mistakenly banned with no appeal channels answering back. The entire platform is fucked and getting bought out by someone else soon, if you use it for storing/logging anything (I used my own server as a diary/todo list) highly recommend you extract that data ASAP and figure out an exit strategy with your friends.

You have to set a program to delete things at a human pace within human timeframes. if you set it to delete things at 1 per second infinitely their systems wil immediately know after 10 hours of pings that likely isnt a human. I would rec nuking your chat history once a day upwards of 2 weeks of posts, since thats how far back discord bots are able to delete things.

Could make passkeys mandatory and use the hardware ID of the passkey (which cannot be spoofed) as an identifier. That's the best way to solve it. Hardware ID bans. Don't associate it with anything other than a passkey. Of course you could correlate them to other services. It's worth that minimal correlation risk. I would say, it doesn't need be made mandatory at the legislature level, doing so would be counterproductive, and honestly it will become defacto standard on any service that is selecting for quality rather than quantity of engagement. You keep both
>>
>>109191347
No fucking way and if they are, police are ignoring them
>>
>>109191479
There is no "hardware" requirement for a passkey. Software passkeys exist.
>>
>>109190783
Part of me hopes id scans become commonplace just to see if that would finally get people to say "enough"
>>
>>109191579
Just blacklist all the software passkeys, unless they are google and went through full device attestation.
What are you gonna do? Buy a new phone when you get banned from Discord?

The US is the only country that ever had an enforced vaxx mandate hitting a large percentage of the population.

Discord users will do anything before they switch to an actually decent chat application including cope deleting their messages as if that prevents them from going into your permanent record tied to your real identity
When discord does ID verification it’s only going to be a humiliation ritual, you already can’t make an account unless they get your full identity as it stands.

Ten years ago there was a time when everything and everyone posted discord invites on 4chan. It was at the time you could actually just click on an invite link and start chatting straight away.
Nowdays all the 4chan related discords are dead, nobody posts invites anywhere anymore, and if someone does, he gets told off for being a tranny.
Maybe some of those discords still exist, but only as zombie spaces where three troons circlejerk with each other... and you are one of them.

It's so dumb when shills come here to shout DISCORD IS UNAVOIDABLE AND EVERYBODY USES IT, while that is clearly not the case.
Discord is on a constant downwards spiral and if you still use it, you are one of the last rejects.
>>
>>109191913
No, hardware passkeys exist. Yubikey is a hardware passkey. It exists right now. It has an immutable (this as complicated as I can take it) serial number. That's all that matters.

It satisfies privacy - well enough. We already have hardware serial numbers on things from hard drives to gun. Standard order, is not unprecedented.

It satisfies portability - You can use the passkey on any device which has USB.

It can be independently audited - and Yubico does not become a centralized root of trust.

Yubico is absolutely in the best position to provide the real world Attestation solution.

>Are there any viable alternatives?
There have been since before Discord existed. One-to-one chat apps are laughably simple programs and used to be babby's first TCP. Some protocols were even federated which made them actually usable, secure and private. Then some startup hipster from California shat on all the good practices, made the most poorly designed, centralized chat app imaginable, sprinkled gamer jokes on top and it immediately became the standard because gamers are unironically the most degenerate fucking retards imaginable to the point that they have to ask if there's an alternative to Discord.

this tbqh., its literally just a chat. You broadcast text messages. How hard is this?
There are millions of chat apps out there, just choose one or make your own. With or without voice.
>but muh screenshare
there are literally websites out there that allow screenshare, where you simply send a link, its not hard. I dont get the purpose of it anyway, if you want to give tech support, there are one-click-install vnc apps out there and it will be much better, because you dont need to tell them where to move their mouse to, but can just show them.

It's all such a non-issue and every anon who claims that there is no alternative, needs the rope.
Imagine standing in a forest and asking "why are there no trees?".

chat protocols are splintered and discord has everything -> FUCK ALL 4 INVOLVED I WILL EAT YOUR SOULS RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH YOU ARE MINE IT WILL HAVE BLACKJACK AND HOOKERS ALL IN ONE SMALL PACKAGE

Discord is very gay and is a piece of shit and so is every centralized provider. However, the alternatives are splintered and do not have all of the features. Nobody has apparently solved this issue despite it being 11 years since Discord was released.

My Trichat will bind XMPP, IRC, and Mumble protocols together inside of one lightweight cross-platform native toolkit program cleanly with all relevant features of each protocol available to the end-user in a UX-friendly manner and with direct first-party Cyberix services optionally bundled in for easy first-time onboarding in a simple tree-arranged layout which certain IRC clients and Discord have which makes familiarity easy to grasp for people from all kinds of software

pic rel alpha implementation, my gtk3 skills suck because it's not gtk2 yet
>>
>>109193954
General features I am trying to implement and have partially implemented already:
Pretty much everything in IRC, XMPP, and Mumble, and when it comes to XMPP, voice calls would be awesome
features that take advantage of being in our own domain, for example, XMPP and Mumble voice, a native soundboard to play local sounds into voice input (this will also help us test because i don't have a microphone at all right now on my laptop)

Heavy emphasis on multiaccounting ergonomics/"samefagging" across protocols. the interface is akin to some kind of newsgroup/traditional IRC/Discord but with folders and tabs and custom subfolders and tabs

Did they really just make an identical clone of Discord all the way down to the branding color?
>>
>>109197786
thx for the review
>>
>>109197813
so long as the end user does not have to do more than click "create server" to host a server it will be fine. anything resembling having to leave your computer on to keep a server alive is not going to work and no one will use it. end of story.

>>109197827
yw. honestly, you should just make it closed source and spy on your users, use their data as you please. Everyone else is doing it already, and I think most people would be comfortable having a non-jew non-tranny spying on them instead. I think this alone would call for massive support needed to get recognized.
>>
>>109197860
Yeah I agree with you. You know what it fucking really needs? Oauth. Oauth would solve this problem instantly
>>
Yeah, so people have been either using fluxer or matrix.org with commet.chat (it looks like discord and supports voice channels for discord like servers called spaces) louis rossmann has a matrix space.
>>
>>109197884
ALL WE NEED:

1. MATRIX DAEMON
Tuwunel

2. MATRIX CLIENT
I would go with Cinny here

3. OAUTH LOGINS
For Google, Discord, Reddit, X. All 4 of these can be used for an oauth grant.

4. Use Claude Code to hook up the Oauth APIs on the backend and frontend Cinny Client

5. Host it on a server of your choosing.

Whoever does this first gets to displace discord
>>
>>109197893
Cinny and sable are good choices too!

Here is louis's matrix space

Also would add that it would probably be good to get passkeys support in both Tuwunel and Cinny at some point

Its new software but it is gaining fast. I hope it takes over. The guy running element is trying to turn element into imessage. So i never recommend it.

The current Discord automod outright permabans you for posting images of grid and grid-like things (like pixel art)
>>

Go to matrix. Xmr.se is a great server. Interops with midov (warning: it has loli so don't join it if illegal in your region) + matrix.org. I might push out an Oauth backed server later today. I have a much more important project I've been pouring my mental energy into however

discord doesn't have the money or infrastructure to "passively scan" all servers

This is only partially true. Yes, they made you scan this gay shit—but it did not REQUIRE a vaccine. It mainly was to just see if you had a negative test for the virus recently.

>banning hundreds of accounts for posting checker patterns
https://www.reddit.com/r/BannedFromDiscord/
This is what I found when I searched this. As a pixel artist this is quite shocking. Can we sue a service for libel? I mean, you accused me of posting CP, that's defamation.
>>
>>109198511
dude it's just a sharded database ran in kubernetes + redis + kv. you can see their fucking libs on the about page. shut up

People are claiming it's something to do with CP but that kinda reeks of "telling on yourself" if you know that.
>>
>>109198643
they are cleaning up legacy violations, what they do is they have an AI agent crawl the json messages and ingest media out of minio/s3, it evaluates it against the PhotoDNA database if it hasn't already been evaluated and ti probably does non-deterministic scanning/fuzzy/safe banning of accounts based on a score factor. We can assume that they are expecting a regulatory audit soon, and they also probably want to retroactively and historically mass snitch on every single person who ever contaminated their platform with CP in the first place.
>>
>>109198657
My prediction is this coincides with a mass arrest of pedos to try and repair Trump's reputation

Why is /g/ your customer support for [centralized chat app]?
>>
>>109190843
I bet they trained an AI on a bunch of naughty images and a lot of them had pixelated censorship and the set of innocent images didn't, so the AI just started flagging images with big pixels.

>>109190778 (OP)
Do you have any idea what kind of crap you're writing, you filthy pig newfaggotry? The reason this shitty place, especially /g/, is such a mess is the virus called "Discord" that destroys this place every single day with its disgusting wannabes. You, as a decent human being, should know that Discord is a piece of closed-source spyware that collects more of your data than Telegram. Remove this normie, centralized software crap from your device.
>>
>>109196870
No, people will eat a ban as long as they can eventually get it appealed and be with their friends again. A child safety ban on an ID verified account I think would be where a lot of people draw the line because the implication is horrible, but we'll see. You can basically report any NSFW message for child safety and it'll get the person banned for a few days, the AI moderation is super sensitive even before the grid thing.

>>109198578
>Can we sue a service for libel?
No. They can ban you for any reason at all, even made up ones. It's offensive to be accused of that, but you've got no recourse except not using the service.

>>109199375
Most are mentioned in this thread (Fluxer/Matrix/IRC/XMPP/Stoat) but there's also Spacebar which is a reverse engineered Discord backend you self-host. Not very popular but it exists.

I just realized how utterly lacking we are of Discord alternatives. Each of those have a pro and con. Goes to show that its hard to compete against globalist funding.

>>
>>109199843
Discord is full of cons, arguably more than any of those. It just has people. People want convenience, and Discord is a clusterfuck of random features that don't make for a good chatting software but do make it convenient for any usecase. I think Fluxer will probably win over anything because it's just cloning Discord and hosts a main server for free. I'm just hoping enough people leave/get banned that moving actual communities off Discord becomes a realistic suggestion for normies.
There's also Teamspeak 6 but it's the worst parts of Discord and old Teamspeak. I love Mumble but it doesn't fit the convenience people want from Discord (shitty reaction gif button and overly granular moderator roles)
>>
>>109200709
Mumble decided they didn't want to add features to the "chat" part, no file or video support, and image support was also lackluster.
They missed a huge chance as they could have taken a big chunk of ts2 -> ts3 users.
I still use it, cause the voip parts was well done, but it's hard for new users to choose mumble over anything else.

They can ban you for any reason including made up reasons and no reason, yes, but claiming someone was posting CP is definitely in libel territory

So i've come to the conclusion recently that my internet is filled with these cyclejerk contents and it got me wondering how I can access the net that isn't created by bots for botusers but real actual beings. Now i've come to this place and lurked some, only to come to the conclusion, you also don't know shit. You point fingers, you blame groups, but there are no solutions. So there is a regulated normal web that is full of re-occuring "the best X amount of product Y" samefaggotry filled with these "creators" and propaganda being pushed to fit "MY needs", i.e. keeping me in a bubble because i once enjoyed a thing, i need to see alterations of said thing 100 times or more(apprently thats a magic number nowadays), and a lower web that is full of whiny, bitching crybabies that only promote their products which nobody else uses. So im either stuck with stupid memes(and i mean this as literal as possible) or with shit that hasn't been "got" by the public. How is one supposed to find anything interesting anymore?

There isn't much, and a lot of it is hidden behind closed off Discord servers or Facebook groups. The internet used to be separate from reality, now the internet has become reality and been shit up. That said, check out Kagi. When I was using the free trial searches I found it great for getting lots of unlisted university lecture slideshows which was helpful for studying and niche topics.
