im looking at the public filings of a 501c (nonprofit) gamer fundraising corporation here in the usa and is it normal for a charity org to be spending over 50% of its revenue on "expenses"? itemized, the expenses are, more or less: a suspiciously high amount of money spent on website and email hosting (i know it doesnt cost this much, they are not running a huge company with tons of email traffic, nor hosting a bunch of traffic-loading media), around 50k/yr for their CEO (calling him a DOO), another 15k for another guy, 50k+ for "Grants and other assistance to domestic organizations and domestic governments. See Part IV, line 21" (there are only two itemized things for this one totalling around 10k), $9,000 in "management fees"(?), four thousand dollars in "information technology", and then this:
10k in "miscellaneous"? 36k in throwing parties???? this is a company that "partners with streamers" to "raise money for grassroots organizations" etc etc. they DO seem to be disbursing some money, i see evidence of that around social media, but again, over 50% of their revenue was eaten up in "expenses", and only a small fraction of that (around 53k?) is going to whatever qualifies a "grant or other assistance program" for inclusion in the "expenses" line item. they paid out to charities only a few thousand more than they pay their two employees. i take this back, they paid their two employees more than they are claiming went out to actual beneficiaries. and 50k isnt a big salary these days but i strongly suspect that is not this executive's only job
is this a normal amount of bullshit for a "charity organization" or is it extra bullshit?
edit: it's possible also that i dont understand their model. if they are somehow not handling money that is coming from streaming donations and going to the beneficiaries, then that changes things a lot. but i know very little about accounting generally and this area of tax law also. presumably they have to be handling money from stream donations in order to keep the streamer from being taxed on it?
