A demo video depicting Doom 3 running an early build of a pathtracing mod was shared today. Path tracing is an accelerated rendering technique that simulates the physical behavior of light by tracing numerous rays, usually requiring advanced modern hardware. No current release date is available but it looks promising.
Recently, unreleased footage was posted depicting a prototype beta build of the cancelled Quake 4 expansion pack "Quake 4: The Awakening" which includes a new set of levels, and new enemies developed by Ritual Entertainment. The only publicly available footage of the lost gameplay includes an enormous, distracting watermark covering most of the screen making the video borderline unwatchable, much to this dismay of Quake 4 fans everywhere.
A mod for Wolfenstein 3D released recently by LoGeKyl that allows you to play the grandfather of first person shooters in an isometric overhead view. The camera angle for Isowulf makes the maze-like designs of the levels much easier to navigate while retaining the base gameplay of the classic shooter.
SgtMarkIV launched a trailer today depicting the latest additions to the popular Brutal Doom gameplay mod. Features include two new Horde Mode maps, updated deathmatch maps and a variety of fixes to particle effects and decorations.
A source port for Heretic II led by maxED (known for leading GZDoombuilder before it rebranded to UltimateDoomBuilder) just debuted yesterday, making the 1998 action-adventure game accessible to play on modern hardware.
