Two Lincoln University international students in court after burglary at student hall
Two Lincoln University students have appeared in court accused of burgling another student’s room.
Xinmiao Miao, 23, and Yukun Ma, 21, were arrested on the university’s campus on Wednesday afternoon.
Yukun Ma lives in Stevens Hall, which is on the university campus. Xinmiao Miao’s address was simply listed as the university.
Police were called to the Ellesmere Junction Rd campus about 4.30pm for a search warrant, a police spokesperson said.
By about 6pm, the pair were arrested.
The Press understands both men are on student visas.
The burglary charge relates to entering a room at the Centennial Halls student accommodation “without authority and with intent to commit an imprisonable offence”.
The pair entered no pleas when they appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday. They did not seek name suppression and were granted bail.
Lincoln University and the Lincoln University Students’ Association were approached for comment.
