One of my favourite things about living a vintage-lifestyle is the fun things I get to with my hair. I’ve pretty much always had some sort of bangs; side bangs, thick 60’s mod-inspired bangs, and most recently, I chopped myself some gorgeous 50’s bangs, styled after the sensational Bettie Page. It took me a little bit of playing around with my new fringe to figure out the best and quickest way to style these babies, but I’ve finally found the perfect routine.

The Headening: Acne Savers
Yes, it’s greasy, yes that’s TWO of them, and yes, I’m mad as hell.
Once a month or so for assorted reasons, pimples show up on my chin. Hormones, hereditary, poor cleansing (I seriously doubt that) but more likely due to putting my hands on my face while I’m rolling my eyes 20 times a day.
Luckily, I always keep Nexcare Acne Absorbing Covers in the house
Wash your face and don’t apply moisturizer to the acne area. Carefully peel off the correct size for the evilness and apply to dry skin.
They say you can apply makeup over it, but that didn’t work too well for me. Slap it on before bed and peel off in the morning.
I spared you the grossness that is absorbed by the cover, (I actually forgot to take the pic, I really wanted you to see the nastiness.) Wash face again in the morning, and almost good as new.
The bump is still there, but the head is gone, no scarring from picking or popping and the redness and inflammation is gone too. Highly recommended, and they are totally affordable since it takes about 2 months to go through a box or more.

I had not heard about Nerium skin care until a friend asked if I wanted to try it out for 5 days to see the results. She knows I love new beauty products, so I jumped on it.
I followed the instructions closely. Take before pictures from the front and both sides before I start using it. I was only to apply it once a day, at night, after taking all my makeup off.

I took my before pics on a Saturday morning and started using Nerium AD Sunday night.

I really like the applicator packaging. A cute, tiny plastic leaf seals the opening and it’s a pump, so it keeps those germy fingers out. Plus it looks cool on the counter.

First pic from Saturday on the left. After pic in the following Saturday on the right. The only explanation for lighting differences is the left pic was taken at sunrise, the right of taken at sunset.

You can see my sunken eyes, the deep frown at the corner of the mouth and the sagging nasolabial folds at the corner of the nose. Rejuvederm, anyone? I see a lot of smoothing, plumping, and general complexion evenness.

The same is seen on the left side. My dark circles aren’t so dark, the redness next to my nose is reduced, the folks on my eyelids aren’t so pronounced.
Lots of people complain about the smell, I liked it. Some didn’t care for the mask like tightening effect after application. I liked that part, too. My skin looked way better in the mornings.
My only complaints were that my mineral foundation did not like to go on in the morning, even after the Nerium had been washed off. I also felt very slow and sluggish and nauseous those 5 days, but ultimately chalked it up to PMS. The price tag is up there, but with so many converts, why not give it a try?

I had the privilege of attending America’s Beauty Show last weekend in Chicago. My first time, and I will be back!
I came for the samples, the deals, and of course to bond with my bestie, but I ended up changing the life of my hair.
We ran into a booth. Their tagline was “It’s not a product, it’s a lifestyle.” A product that turns you into a cult member? Must try. So I bought the shampoo, conditioner, and plasma spray. $25. They thought I would be the perfect candidate for their treatment. Off to the shampoo I went.
After the double wash shampoo to remove all buildup (one of the best shampoos I’ve ever gotten anywhere) and back to the booth for my treatment.
They spray the magic elixir on my wet hair thoroughly, and then blow dry it thoroughly to seal in all the fibroblast goodness.
After the blow dry expert was done, Kristine couldn’t believe how my hair looked. Vibrant, shiny, FULL. The rough bump of nonsense that lives in the back of my head was gone.
The owner decided I need more lift and curls my hair with a straightener. A trick I hand yet to learn. Everyone is raving, my hair feels like it’s floating, and it feels like real hair.
I’ve shampooed, conditioned, and use my plasma spray energy time I wash my hair. My hair is a completely different texture. I don’t mind wearing it straight so much anymore.

Betty Realness: Don’t Get it Twisted with Photoshop
Photoshop can make you or break you, so let’s be honest here!
Most of my pictures have some slight shopping done. I try to keep it to lighting effects because I can’t take a picture of inanimate objects to save my life and my phone camera is on the level with potato quality.
The picture above shows how one pic, one app and 5 minutes can completely change how you look. Use this to your advantage, but buyer beware when it comes to products!
I encourage a little digital touch up if it lifts your spirits. Just remember that amazing realness that is you every day.

Filters only get you so far…
Whiten Teeth at Home -Dentists Hate Me!
Another crazy easy trick for fancy white teeth! Actually, dentists love me because I’ve spent the equivalent of a small county’s GDP on fixing my teeth. Several generations of children have went to college because of my bad genetics.
In spite of that, my teeth are pretty white naturally. My fake teeth were matched to the color of my natural teeth: B3, which is a bleached shade! I’ve never had professional whitening, but this one weird trick keeps the smoking, drinking, coffee and aging away for cheap.
Go get some Debrox ear wax drops or the generic equivalent. $5-$10. Make sure it has the ingredient carbamide peroxide 6.5%. This is the same active ingredient used in whitening trays.
Brush your teeth with normal toothpaste. Then, rinse the brush and add a good amount of the ear drops to the brush. Brush your teeth with the ear gel for up to 2 minutes. It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t taste bad, and it didn’t cause me tooth sensitivity.
Alternatively, you could just add a few drops on top of your toothpaste. Multi tasking is fun!
I did this 2-3 times a week for a month, and the results were crazy. My dentist assured me I wasn’t doing more damage to my teeth or enamel, but don’t take my medical advice.
