[Meta] I was browsing the Wayback Machine when I found this post back when the first FNaF film came out. It's depressing on how badly this has aged after the second movie. We failed to keep the promise to be a "good and respectful fandom"

With recent events and this finding being the nail the in coffin, I'm considering on making this my final post on this subreddit. If things are not going to get better, then I can't continue being in it. I've been around for 11 years, and I've never seen the community to be this visceral and negative in years sinceFNaF World
With people accusing me of being a shill and "criticism silencer", I think this is it for me. This fandom can go on without me. Before you call me a "nobody" I was the backbone for a lot of technical findings and discoveries back then that is still carried to this day. Referenced in Game Theory four times, mentioned by FuhNaff, Jonnyblox, so many big YouTubers. Indirectly got FNaF Plus to exist (whom now I deeply regret). I wasn't some "nobody" in the fandom. I was one of the major contributors to the fandom to see now along with many others.
EDIT 2: Do not worry about me. I'm OK. This is not a crash out post. If you're wondering about the "11 years" when my account is a bit younger, that's because I was originally u/GBAura before I closed my account due to old drama and false claims that has been long resolved. I did consider leaving at the time, but I got dragged back in. Again, again, and again. I felt that this time this should be it. The atmosphere is not fun anymore, and I can't continue to stay on this sinking ship.
There's a difference between criticizing a product or a person/company for their poor decisions, and wanting people fired because you don't like their work. The latter is what I'm seeing more of lately. The new "slander/snark" culture the subreddit is adapting is disturbing to see and I'm shocked that the mods let people get away with it. From mocking Scott's retirement post because "he didn't retire" (might I add Scott once said "I never said I couldn't change my mind") to "FNaF 3 is for the fans" post that got thousands of upvotes. This is not the subreddit I knew, and not something I want to be a part of. Not even FNaF World garnered this kind of reaction, and that subreddit too was bridged by trolls posing as FNaF fans, which is pretty much what happened with the second film.
This is not the kind of culture I want to support or be in. With how things are going, it's better I'd leave and have this post be a final reflection on what this community has become.
EDIT 3: Even if I did reconsider, I have long retired my "GBAura" handle name and rather use a brand new account. I may see you all again. Just not in the foreseeable future. Peace.

EDIT 4: If you want more proof on why I had to leave, then take a look at the comments in this very post. These people are justifying their disdain for FNaF and even other people's opinions and said "since when we were a respectful fandom?" when that's not the point. It's not "the films are bad" that's the problem, it's that the fans went out of their way to harass others who enjoyed it or haven't, the people involved with production, from directors, producers to even FNaFTuber's who saw the film early and evenScott
Really, if you hate what the franchise has become, give up on it or stick with the classics. Don't bother staying if it's going to bring you misery. I was the same when it came to the state of this fandom. That's why I chose to leave and making this post as my last one.
As an usual lurker of this subreddit, I couldn't agree more on your feelings regarding the current state of this subreddit (and I'd even personally argue the FNAF fanbase as a whole).
The level of toxicity, blind hate and constant negativity is to an all-time high since I started to really get involved in the fandom as a whole (and considering for how long you've been in it and how involved you always were, for you to say it has never gotten this bad definitely means something). Even I have currently lost all interest in further interacting with this fandom (safe for a small portion of FNAF artists which thankfully still help to contribute to fun interactions).
So all that to say, I completely understand your choice and while I'm sad to see you go, I hope it'll ultimately result of the best for you and that we may see you one day return here, at a time when this place has hopefully returned to its true roots. ^^
Take a long deserving break, You've been carrying this whole subreddit for a long time and It's clearly not good to keep seeing all this negativity.
This is a message to everyone in the fandom. Stop being aggressive, stop threatening. I've been in this fandom for 11 years, and in recent years it seemed like the fandom was growing, but it saddens me that it's becoming even more toxic. I can't stand how some people innocently accuse fan game developers, artists, and animators. Memes that make fun of something depressing, not funny. And all that kind of stuff that disappoints me. When will the fandom become calm? We used to be calm, creating fan content without resorting to personal attacks, so maybe we'll continue this trend. This will make the fandom even better, like before.
Name one fandom that was "calm"

I have been a FNAF fan since like 2015 if I remember correctly. I seen a lot when it comes to this franchise, and seeing this, the fandom fill with negatively, hate, ect, it is just sadden. I know that not everyone is like this, there are good people but the minority is very loud and fills the fandom with hate. Just seeing this, in a franchise I love, it just hurts me.
I know this isn't the only fandom or is the worst offender, but....... still.

I'd been considering leaving Freddit as well because of how utterly vile it's been since the release of the second movie: I straight-up do NOT feel safe mentioning my enjoyment of it 99% of the time because it tends to attract commenters who accuse me of "enjoying slop" or being "part of why FNaF's dying", and the mods don't seem to have much interest in controlling/curbing the growing toxicity.
I've been in the fandom since the FNaF1 days & joined Freddit in October 2015, and I've never seen it get as hostile and volatile as it's been since the 2nd movie's release (there were some issues back when the 1st one came out but it was nowhere near as bad as it's been lately). Every single discussion about the movies just devolves into the same fighting and dooming, and it feels like I'm reaching a breaking point.
After how many years you've been here, all the work you've done helping carry this place, and all the hell you've been put through by jerks here, you've earned a long break and I hope you'll be okay. See you on the flipside, friend.
SAME, oh my God. Someone told me that I've been "brainwashed by capitalistic slop companies" because I said that a movie is just a movie & that it was enjoyable and fun. People in this subreddit cannot fathom that everyone has their own preferences and opinions on having fun. I'm not planning on leaving yet, but the thought already crawled into my brain.

Even if we don't know each other, I must say it's sad to see you go, but it's understandable and I'm not gonna try to convince you to stay. I've been here for quite a long time myself, I know very well how toxic this subreddit (and fandom in general) can be sometimes. If you feel like you need a break, go for it. Seeing so much negativity is not good for anyone's mental health.

I'm so sorry you had to put up with these haters! Can't they understand that it's just a movie? So what if it's not perfect or made of gold? Neither was the first film, and it didn't get nearly enough hate compared to this one... I mean, I can understand them not liking how badly rushed and incomplete the movie felt, but hating the overall plot and its characters (especially Michael and Charlotte) is just silly. Plus, all this harassing on the fans who actually love the film is downright despicable.
I wish you didn't have to go just because of all the negative toxicity in this fanbase, but I understand your reasons.. Take all the time you need and don't pressure yourself. We'll be waiting for you for if and when you return. ❤
A break to detox is definitely the way to go, or becoming part of more niche, friendlier communities than the larger, more toxic fandom at large.
Completely get it, as I've stopped interacting with the fandom. Honestly this fandom has been on a downward spiral since SB really, full of people who treat every entry (regardless if it was good or bad) like a personal affront.
Mah, I'm with you. This place sucks and unfortunately people don't tend to give a shit about making an experience good for others.
It's now a part of fan culture to just be insufferably negative and snarky, and I've unfortunately tried hard to still take part in fandoms of things that I love but a lot of the time it's too much. People can just come on and overwhelm, and win. Hey, I want to talk about this thing I love. No, now I have to hear all the dumbest reasons why this thing sucks from people who didn't pay any attention to said thing and get whole details wrong in order to support their shitty opinion.
It's too much to ask all the Negative Nimrods to actually put forth any effort into enjoying the thing they love. They want everything to come to them and they no longer want to meet anything halfway. I used to post to this subreddit far more often and now I only come on here occasionally to see what's going on. I'd rather just unplug and not interact with other people and enjoy stuff.

Despite my own negative feeling for the flim, I still enjoyed it and appreciate that FNAF has come so far to have two successful movies with third along the way.
the thing that gets me is how the first movie actually did feel like a turning point where people were excited to share something fnaf related without the usual baggage. then the second one came out and somehow it activated every worst impulse in the fandom at once. you had people who were fine with the first film suddenly treating it like a personal betrayal because freddy didn't do a backflip or whatever. the shift from celebrating an indie game getting mainstream respect to immediately tearing apart everyone involved is pretty wild to witness.
i get why someone who put in years of actual technical work and community building would bounce after that. there's a difference between being critical about a movie's quality and the kind ofperformative outrage
I can respect the franchise went from an indie game to a blockbuster movie I just don’t think the movies are a particularly great adaptation of FNAF on the big screen.
Sure don’t throw a fit over the movie being bad but what we’re given does feel like a lot of thought was put into making it look like FNAF but when it came to the writing they kind of gave up.
Ehhhhh I agree that people are allowed to enjoy the movies, but both movies (ESPECIALLY the second one) are pretty bad and I think fnaf fans deserve much better. I haven’t really seen much criticism about the movies that didn’t feel warranted, but that’s just my own experience. Even the parts that fans like are kinda just “my favorite animatronic was on screen and looked good” which would have been things in a good movie as well.
People take their opinions WAY too far and act out of line over this movie. I HATED the fnaf 2 movie but holy shit yall need to chill.
I personally just wish fans would just admit its not a fnaf interpretation but a whole new version of the timeline. There would be way less hatred and way less of a visceral reaction if people could just grasp this concept. Its like how the fnaf games and fnaf silver eyes trilogy are just different versions of the same timeline.
The new Movie version instead of following William or henrys surviving child (charlie emily for the books and michael afton for the games) it follows one of the victims surviving family members. Interesting concept and its better SEPARATED FROM THE GAMES like the silver eyes trilogy.

I think both movies are really good and I have a blast with them. They have legitimate flaws that I can see why someone would dislike them.
People on both sides still went needlesly crazy over it. Either making it out like it was some travesty or spreading the crazy 'for the fans' stuff.

Unapologetically love them, the first movie was great and the second one was good. Had a blast with my best friends in theaters all dressed up as characters and I can't wait for the third 😤. Type of thing where you "find out" it was "bad" the next day on the internet and are surprised because you literally just watched it 12 hours ago and it wasn't, at all (Hello Mario Galaxy)
