I was looking for Claude Code alternatives and tried Sakana AI’s new Fugu. Signed up for the Pro plan right away.
Used Fugu Ultra for ~3 hours on a real CMS codebase:
- hit 100% of the 5-hour usage window
- consumed 35% of the weekly quota in one session
So yeah, for budget-conscious developers, the $100/mo Pro plan can feel tight if you do serious daily agentic coding.
The frustrating part isn’t the model quality. It’s the workflow interruption: once the 5-hour cap hits 100%, you’re cut off mid-flow.
That said… the output was genuinely impressive.
AI coding session output:
67 git-tracked files affected
61 modified, 6 added, 0 deleted
+3999 / -498
Total touched lines: 4497
Net growth: +3501
Breakdown:
Controllers: 16 files +1428 / -183
Admin assets: 3 files +1259 / -85
Tests: 14 files +672 / -1
Models: 8 files +233 / -27
Verification:
✅ PHPUnit: 123 tests, 524 assertions OK
✅ php -l: OK
✅ node --check: OK
✅ git diff --check: OK
My take:
Fugu Ultra looks strong as a coding agent. The output is production-candidate quality.
But the Pro plan does not feel like “unlimited heavy coding” for serious daily use.
Model: impressive.
Quota: painful.
Expensive for now (with max)
