It's been a busy few weeks for me, but in the midst of the rainy Pacific Northwest winter, these beauties arrived on my desk at work a couple weeks back, 300 of them in three heavy boxes.

What?

On behalf of the Botania team of Violet Moon Modding, I'm proud to officially announce the opening of sale for the Botania 10th Anniversary CD's.

If you haven't been keeping up, these discs were produced to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Botania's founding. The mod's repository was created on January 13, 2014, and the first release was made on February 8, 2014. We thought producing CD's would be a bit more special than some clothes or other trinkets.

What's Inside?

The discs are professional-quality pressed CD's. Think store-bought music CD's, not the kind you burn yourself at home. If cared for properly, they should last over a hundred years. Can't wait to confuse some archaeologists with these in 300 years? I can't wait either!

As for the contents:

  • The CD is playable in a CD player and contains seven tracks, including three original music tracks composed exclusively for the CD. Brace yourself for a meme in the first track.
  • When loaded into a computer, a variety of bonus content can be accessed:
    • The latest release of Botania for all supported Minecraft versions, up to 1.20.1.
    • Essays about Botania's design
    • Touhou-style profiles for every single flower in the mod
    • Fan-art and fan-animations contributed by the community
    • ...and more!

This is the ONLY legit channel to order the CD's, please be careful of fakes.
There are 300 CD's available and we won't be ordering reprints, so take advantage! First-come-first-serve.

Domestic shipping in the continental US will take about a week, and international orders slightly longer. I batch up orders, so it might be a week or so from your order before I ship it out.

Where is the money coming from? Where is it going?

This project was funded mostly personally by williewillus, and the sale price is just to recoup the costs of shipping and pressing the CD's and commissioning the art. We are tracking the total costs of the project, and if there is a surplus (unlikely), we will donate it to a charity of the Botania team's choice. When this happens, we will update on this post.

    I have a question, but first: GG! and thank you for making this!

    My question is questions are: do you plan to cover the international shipping with the purchase price? if not, how will be the payment process? would I pay the 15 USD first, and then the shipping again? or everything together? how will I know how much the shipping is?

      we're hoping that the price we charge is going to cover international shipping for everyone that wants it (because the domestic shipping method I'm using is pretty cheap). I guess you could say the domestic buyers are subsidizing the shipping for the international buyers, or something like that.

      Either way, if there isn't enough to cover all the international orders I'll just make up the difference with modding income from Botania, money just flows in a circle 😛

        Update: we've sold nearly 100 CD's in the first 5 days!

        I haven't mailed anything out yet, figuring out if I can use a 3rd-party service to mass-order shipping labels instead of hauling 50 envelopes to the post office and mailing them one by one. I'm also traveling (again) this coming week, so it'll be two weeks from now before the first domestic US orders go out. Stay tuned! Tell your friends, we have plenty of discs left!

        update: I've created shipping labels for a "test" batch (basically the first 18 orders from the US). If you ordered pretty early on from the US, you'll receive an email from shipstation (the 3rd party label provider I settled on) which will have a USPS tracking number. I'll drop off the batch tomorrow before work.

        My old laptop has a built-in CD drive, though I doubt if it is still working properly though.

        I'm mailing out the first 3 international orders to Canada tomorrow. Not sure how well things will work; it's my first time shipping stuff internationally. Fingers crossed.

        If all goes well I'll probably do UK next, then Germany.

        Looks like the Canada orders went through mostly without issue. I'm traveling next week and I want to get some sturdier envelopes, but I'll do UK/Ireland after I get back, then Germany.

        UK batch seems to have gone well, doing a Germany batch this weekend. Then the rest of the EU.

        Also, I just put in an update on the post on pricing. The flat 15USD anywhere rate will last til the end of 2024. If we have any discs left in 2025 and someone orders, I'm going to ask that you also pay the cost of shipping. Tell your modded MC friends to get their disc today!

              I'd like to bump this a bit because we've officially crossed (a while back) half of the 300 CD's sold! We have sold 160 of the 300 discs we ordered in the press run.

              Announcement: If you live in the US, and you fill the form and pay from now until Tuesday, December 2, the price will only be $5 (1/3 the standard price)! I will be away from the office with the CD's for most of December so if you want it for the holidays please get your order in by December 3rd at the latest.

                      Hey everyone. I'd like to announce that I'm winding down the sale of the CD's. There's a few outstanding orders I'll be sending out this week, but otherwise, to my best knowledge, everyone that paid for a CD should have received one. The Google form above is now closed.

                      If you think you should have one and never got one, you should email me at the email address above with proof of payment and preferably a date range in which the payment happened so I can cross-reference with my documentation.

                      Financially, I am at $221.78 $243.16 under water with all the costs and income netted out. That's perfectly fine with me to fund this little project, but I'm just stating it here for transparency that we did not make any money from this.

                      I have about 25 CD's or so left on hand of the original 300. These will be used to first handle any mistakes, damaged shipments, etc. After that, I'm just going to hand them out to people I meet in person. So if you're ever around in the Seattle metro area, email me if you want meet up and pick one up (for free). I'll also be going to in-person events like Touhoufest and maybe Anime Expo next year, at which point I'll maybe bring a few to hand out to any Botania fans on-site.
