Since it’s “May The Fourth”, I decided all of my Disney posts this week will be Star Wars related; so let’s start with the big one - the grand opening of Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland.

We began meeting for this event several months in advance; and the end result of the “big reveal” was a collaboration between the creative director, show director, myself, and the pyro designer. Very happy the lighting team was able to deliver “the shot” that was desired to launch this new land.

There was a LOT of lighting gear on this gig but what may not be obvious is that I also used lasers. The band of blue “energy” directly behind the Millennium Falcon is accomplished by six lasers through optical glass, creating a roiling effect.

The remainder of the gear included Robe BMFL WashBeam, Robe BMFL Blade, Clay Paky Mythos, Clay Paky Scenius, Astera Wireless LED tubes and pucks, GLP X4 Impression bars, Elation ColorChorus bars, a bunch of haze machines and 4 Cryogenic effects.
