Olympics Day Seven Megathread (Friday, August 2)

Official website with the most comprehensive schedule. The schedule here has events grouped together in sessional chunks to prevent it from becoming excessively long. The listed end times are estimates I created based on event lengths from previous Olympics and my knowledge of the sports, and may not be 100% accurate (they also try to account for medal ceremonies at the end).

u/CTIDmississippi has also created a comprehensive Google spreadsheet here with built-in time zone conversions.

u/skymasterson2016 has created a list of today's medal events here.

In addition, the mods highly encourage you to read the following posts:

u/ManOfManyWeis has written previews sport by sport, which can be found here.

u/ContinuumGuy has written a comprehensive preview of today's medal chances here.

General Housekeeping

Since there'll often be multiple events running simultaneously, it's helpful to identify which sport you're watching (if it's not obvious from the context). You can create a header by entering four spaces then typing the name of the sport.

The mods strongly request that you flair up with the new flair system if you haven't already. They put a great deal of work into it during the offseason. If you don't want to reveal your country, it's fine to choose the neutral Olympic rings flag. Relatedly, I'm not a mod of r/Olympics so I won't be able to help with things like removing comments, sorting the thread by new, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

For those asking what's in the box that the athletes are awarded on the podium: according to L'Equipe, it contains a limited edition poster of the Paris Olympics and a Phryge plush toy.

Fair to say rooth is the greatest athlete because of how many events they go through

swimming

oh, i thought sjoelstrom was new the way they talked about her grabbing a gold. she's only a legend though...

🎾

Why is Men’s doubles bronze medal match being played after the Gold medal match ? This might be first time I am ever seeing gold and silver being determined before the bronze medal.

I think they do that in soccer too but I'm not positive

Shooting

Good job Korea!!

Brazil doing great in rowing

My thoughts on day seven:

  • The start of track and field events - seeing Sha’carri Richardson take charge was awesome

  • Djokovic!!

  • The magnificent Marchand continues, can’t wait to see this guy in Olympics to come. We are witnessing history.

  • Hate to see Dressel fall short, hoping he can finish strong with the last event. But I really liked the spotlight story they gave him about his mental struggles.

I was going to stay up for Lyles run but he's going to qualify huge day tomorrow don't want to be tired.

For decades, Roche has been a trusted partner in laboratories around the world. That journey continues as we bring the same reliability and global support to the evolving world of DNA sequencing. (Roche's sequencing technology is currently for research use only.)

Will Australia actually break its record that was set in Tokyo in terms of gold medals? It's already at 11 gold medals.

Hope so I like to see other countries excell

Holy smokes there's a lot of medal events today, but I guess it's that time where Swimming isn't done but Athletics have started so between those and some sports finishing there's a looooot to watch

There'd be even more but surfing is delayed again

Yeah quite a lot during this weekend as track, swim and gymnastics all collide. Exciting times.

Severely sleep deprived but the first event starts in half an hour

The women are carrying us so hard this Olympics. The men have 2 gold the women have 7 so far. Let's go fellas

Australia's ratio is even more crazy. 1 for men, 10 for women.

Judo is starting early today huh

Swimmin'

Man Mckeown has Regan Smith's number 😭

Definitely this Olympics. Aussies have been phenomenal

In lieu of surfing I've just been listening to the sound of the Mediterranean in Marseilles between rounds of windsurfing replays

First Olympics I can ever remember where the USA men haven't won a single individual gold in the pool. Fink you're our last chance let's go
