研究開始時の研究の概要
This project investigates how conservative and nationalist groups in Japan and the United States have carried out activism reacting to campaigns from left-leaning groups that aim to alter the landscape of public memory through the creation, alteration, or removal of historical statues and monuments.

研究実績の概要
Data collection and fieldwork continued in 2024.
Research progressed slower than expected in the 2024 academic year. This is a solo project and the amount of work necessary to produce an academic paper has taken much more time than was initially projected. An academic paper that was planned for publication has been delayed, and may require significant re-writing and changes before submission to an academic journal.
However, one Book Chapter was published related to conservative religious groups involvement in politics: Hall, Jeffrey J. "Electoral Politics." The New Nanzan Guide to Japanese Religions (2024): 421-438. The book chapter is related to some of the groups studied for this research project.

理由
Progress has been delayed due to course-related work and delays in finding a suitable research assistant. The existing work schedule has also made it difficult to apply for overseas academic conferences.

今後の研究の推進方策
Data collection will continue in the 2025 Academic year. Research data gathered so far will be analyzed and written up as papers, or as a book chapter to submit to an edited volume [talks are in progress with potential editors].
