Barry Hughes admits to being involved in city nightclub brawl

Hughes and his friend, Jamie Bryce, along with others, then chased Mr Boyle out of the area before the pair attacked him with a metal pole.

They also punched, kicked and stamped on Mr Boyle's head and body.

The victim then was stabbed in the face and stomach by another of Hughes's friends Allan Eadie.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Hughes, of Houston Road, Kilmacolm, and Bryce, 26, of Meadowside Quay Square, Glasgow, admitted assaulting Mr Boyle at the Albion Street nightclub on December 6, last year.

Eadie, 31, currently remanded in HMP Barlinnie, admitted stabbing Mr Boyle.

Prosecutor Kevin McCallum told the court: "Mr Boyle's friend Martin Feeley began speaking to Barry Hughes. Mr Boyle then began to act aggressively towards him and thereafter he was punched in the face by the complainer.

"The complainer ran out of the VIP room pursued by a group of men that included Hughes and Bryce. Mr Boyle was struck on a number of occasions by Hughes and Bryce.

"He was able to get up and ran off in the direction of a fire door. Once in the fire corridor area, Eadie then struck Mr Boyle with a knife on the left side of his face and on the right side of his abdomen."

Judge Lord Brailsford deferred sentence for background reports.
