Demon Slayer Z
Download Here! (Current version: 1.1.1)Abstract
This game was created for the Encounters of the Boss Kind contest event held over at rpgmakerweb.com in celebration for RPG Maker’s 24th birthday. It placed 3rd with a tie between my entry and Lamia must die! by MISTER BIG T (you can actually also download and play his entry as well! That is... on his topic post
Story
The story is really simple actually. And cliched as crud, but that’s kinda the point. The game takes the format of a single episode from a series of games, but thrusts you in near the end to fight the second to last boss. The story up to this point is basically that the big-bad Demon Lord had possessed a little girl and threatened to destroy the world in 7 days. The heroes of our tale stand up and go on a journey to stop him. Yeah. That’s pretty much it.
Characters
Hiro, The Swordsaint Hero: Hiro takes the place of the party’s hero. He fancies himself to be the leader of the group when in fact the more definitive leader is probably Heila. Hiro lampoons shonen anime with his portrayal as a samurai with ridiculously named attacks. He uses a sword in combat and focuses on generating TP to use his ultimate attack. He also functions as a backup healer.
Heila, The Shieldmaiden: Heila is the party’s tank and healer. She’s the real leader of the party, though she’s generally rather uptight and realistic. She’s a no-nonsense type of person. Heila has next to no real damage output, but can taunt attacks onto her and has several self-buffing and self-healing abilities. She also has a weak party-wide heal that also removes status conditions and a panic-heal that takes half of her health and gives it to someone else.
Mahjee, The Manaburner: Mahjee is the party’s mage. He’s missing a few screws and is a complete pyromaniac. He looks up to Heila as a sister, despite them not being related at all. He absolutely loves to set things on fire, and all of his spells involve fire in some way. Mahjee’s core mechanic is that his spells deal more damage based on how much mana he currently has, causing him to deal more damage early on while it simmers down the longer the fight goes until her can recover.
The Desperado, The Man Without a Name: The Desperado is the party’s wildcard character. I decided to make him a kind of utility-damager because the party needed something like that still. The Desperado is a mysterious character whose reasons for joining the party to save the world are unknown even to them; however he’s a good shot and has been helpful so they’ve kept him around. He’s a bit snarky though, which annoys Heila to all ends. The Desperado is a character based around luck, from his randomly-targeting attacks to his reliance on critical hits. His signature move is Tack Driver, which hits a random number of times with each successive hit having a lesser chance of triggering than the one before it. There is approximately a 2.5% chance that it will hit with all of its shots and have an additional special effect.
