Less than two weeks after abruptly shutting down all 12 of its restaurants and kiosks, Boston-area chain Clover is coming back to life.

The vegetarian restaurants will reopen five locations on Tuesday for lunch service after receiving a last-minute investment from a backer that the company will not identify. The revived cafes will include Clover’s Prudential Center and Federal Street locations in Boston, as well as its Central Square, Inman Square, and Kendall Square cafes in Cambridge, said Clover chief executive Julia Wrin Piper.

A sixth location, at the Harvard Science Center store on Oxford Street in Cambridge, is poised to reopen June 22, Wrin Piper said.
