Loaf can be baked (but not sliced and toasted) 2 days ahead and kept, wrapped in foil, at room temperature or frozen 1 month. Slice and toast just before serving.

      This cake is the perfect with the "eggs" and the anise seed flavor tasted great. I baked the cakes in small bread pans so they were about the size of large cookies. My husband finished the leftovers the next day with his coffee.
