A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Thanks for this; I found this article (archive) from fucking 2020 talking about how it was going viral with people claiming it was a real attack. The video they have is actually from a different angle, but here's a comparison, you can see the same woman with the pram in both. Other articles from 2023 say that it was being posted again then with people claiming it was Muslims doing it.

@Tom Peters is, I am quite sure, red strikethroughed user @Headdot Reddot. He got that red strikethrough by posting pictures of penises in the Indian menace thread claiming them to be the tiny penises of adult Indian men, but it turned out that he had just fucking posted images from medical sources of children's penises. Even if he is not a sock at all, this is the same credulous garbage that makes it impossible to tell whether he is a well-poisoning kike or just a retard. Either way I hope everyone takes a lesson from this, and the lesson is that you can't trust the things that he says. This is unfortunate because we are in a media environment where official sources are also not trustworthy; the police lied about Henry getting immediate aid and then deleted their post when video evidence showed it to be an unsupportable reading of the events. The idea that something like this might have happened and the state was desperate to keep a lid on it and somehow was lucky enough to do so for a short while may seem plausible (although...no; if you 100% believed this was real but also that you wouldn't have been able to find anything about it online when you checked, you need to recalibrate some heuristics). We ought to be able to trust each other. Tom, if you are not a bad actor, please for the love of God listen to me: you are a retard. You believe things that are stupid, because you are stupid. You should not post anything without thoroughly vetting it because you are apparently willing to believe the dumbest shit imaginable, and I only spent the time checking this one to prove to everyone else that you're not trustworthy. I tend to be harsher in my opinions on the UK because they had such a shared DNA with America and thus should be held to a higher standard, They really are a decayed empire at this point. You have to be blind to not notice everyone is gearing up for another world war and when the dust settles I fully expect the UK to get the Ottomin Empire treatment.

It should be the opposite. The uk is something to be looked down upon. America surpassed it and it's colonies. America is the gold standard. Sadly the biggest weakness in America, is a lack of accountability. It's multifactoral but it boils down to that. It's not just America but other Nations too. UK, Canada. Might be the only thing in common culturally.

Sikh dude with special privileges to carry a knife stabs someone. Gov will try to restrict knives for all.
Saudi dude shoots someone with a crossbow. Gov will try to restrict crossbows for all.

This is why those in charge need to prioritize secular values.

Yea we get it you're american you don't need to prove it. Everyone fucking hates the police. Every side hates the police. Literally everyone hates the police. Whether that's because they're racist against x group, their inability to solve any crime, the fact they don't show up half the time, the grooming gang shit. And so on. You did not get it, because you are a moron. Now the UK seems to have a very high incompetence problem with their government employee's. America does too. But just like racism or any other irrational perspective, labeling everyone for the actions of some is retarded. I am sure their are good UK cops, but you have to have high accountability.
