“Video Rewind” is in dire need of a cleaned up, remastered (maybe remixed?), expanded reissue...if the Beatles could issue their promo videos with “1” I don’t see why the Stones can’t.

I forget which one, 40 Licks or Jump Back (could be both), but the end jam/fade of “It’s Only Rock N Roll” is definitely edited. A shame.

Perhaps both but on 40 Licks at least.

The edit is found on CD as follows:

It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It) (4:11) (DR)
    Honk 1CD (5)
    Forty Licks (10)
    GRRR! 2 CD (7)
    GRRR! 3 CD (7)
    GRRR! 5 CD (7)

Rewind has the full album version.

Why is it, on this forum, if one person says, "I like that comp because it has the full-length album versions," someone will invariably follow-up with, "The problem is that they need a comp with just the single edits," and vice versa. And God forbid they should blend the two. Then nobody is happy. Except me. I like Jump Back just fine as it is.

Ok good for you. I feel if they are going to use edited versions, they should at least fill the disc as it is less than 76 minutes.

They also omitted Hang Fire again on this compilation even though it would have easily fit as it is only about 2:20. I suppose it is because Hang Fire was released as a single in the U.S. and this compilation was not released in the U.S. until later.

  9. I can one-up you - how about a CD with edits, but edits that are different than what was on the single.

Having made fun of this release, and I do still think it is nonessential despite my inability to resist buying it, after spinning the vinyl I must admit it is a fun collection of tunes.

Thanks for the report. Looking forward to my 4LP set - to be delivered Tues.

Ha, I paid (a lot) xtra for fast shipping ...but used cheapest option for the white “Honk” T-shirt I ordered the following day that I’m wearing now + had washed & dried a few days ago.

It is a great collection of songs. And I'm glad somebody likes it. But the sound quality is so bad, I couldn't get past the first record. I'll be selling my copy back to my local mom & pop shop sometime this week. Shame. I really wanted to like this.

The Stones have been hit or miss at best on sound quality in recent years. Blue & Lonesome is a mess sonically, though I kept the CD.

The Sticky Fingers vinyl reissue is pretty good, though no match for an original UK or US.

Ok like a mess as in what? That could mean anything from a bad mix, to poor recording or bad loud mastering, or whatever.

Loud mastering, compressed, somewhat muddy sounding. Reviews I saw on here for the vinyl were only marginally better.

Yes, Universal did a bad job with the 2009 remasters, they are way too compressed and these remasters continue to be used today, although I thought GRRR! sounded a tad better and HONK is slightly better than GRRR! to me, although it's still fairly loud.

Interestingly, I bought the 2015 U.S. Sticky Fingers 2CD set, and disc 1 appears to be the straight 2009 disc, it looks different from disc 2, the bonus disc. Disc 1 sounds brickwalled to me, it was tough to listen to, so I also bought the EU 2015 Sticky Fingers 2CD set, and although the tone and bass is better on the U.S. edition, the EU disc 1 was a little easier on the ears and both CDs have the same matching labels on top.

My blue vinyl copy of Honk from Target has a pressing error whereby Side A of disc one is pressed on both Sides A and B. The matrix numbers and handwriting in the lead out wax are identical on both sides.

Has anyone else noticed or heard of this issue?

This is a long thread, so not sure if this was already noted, but just got around to picking up the album and noticed the credits on Tumbling Dice...

Only Clydie King is listed on background vocals, not Vanetta Fields. Jimmy Miller not credited for drums on the coda, and it says Bill Wyman on bass, but it was really Mick Taylor, according to the liner notes.

I made fun of this release too, but listening to it tonight on Spotify, which I’m not sure uses the same sequence as the CDs, it is a fun listen. How could it not be, it’s the Stones. I like that Rain Fall Down, Doom and Gloom, and especially Don’t Stop made the cut. Three late career songs that hold their own with the classics, in my opinion.
