Downthread a post indicates there are going to be 2LP and single-CD editions, also. No tracklists yet for those (AFAIK).

Is there anything on this apart from the Blue & Lonesome tracks and the live disc that wasn’t on the 3 disc GRRR?

Hey Stones: put your money where your mouth is and create your set lists each night using only the tracklisting on Honk. It'd be a nice break from the 10 minute versions of Jumpin Jack Flash or Satisfaction during the greatest hits run at the end of the show.

I wouldn't mind hearing some of these live on the next tour... "Love Is Strong" "Waiting On A Friend" "Heartbraker" "Fool To Cry"

    It's 20 songs on both, I believe
    1. Start Me Up - Tattoo You, 1981
    2. Brown Sugar - Sticky Fingers, 1971
    3. Miss You - Some Girls, 1978
    4. Tumbling Dice - Exile on Main St., 1972
    5. Just Your Fool - Blue & Lonesome, 2016
    6. Fool To Cry - Black and Blue, 1976
    7. Angie - Goats Head Soup. 1973
    8. Beast of Burden - Some Girls, 1978
    9. It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It) - It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, 1974
    10. Doom and Gloom - Grrr..., 2012
    11. Love Is Strong - Voodoo Lounge, 1994
    12. Mixed Emotions - Steel Wheels, 1989
    13. Don't Stop - Forty Licks, 2002
    14. Harlem Shuffle - Dirty Work, 1986
    15. Happy - Exile on Main St., 1972
    16. Rain Fall Down (Radio Edit) - A Bigger Bang, 2005
    17. Undercover (of the Night) - Undercover, 1983
    18. Emotional Rescue - Emotional Rescue, 1980
    19. Saint Of Me, Bridges To Babylon, 1997
    20. Wild Horses (Live at London Stadium 5/22/18) [ft. Florence Welch] - Unreleased
Which is a neat trick because there's at least one song from every album from 1971 to the present

I've always thought The Stones wrote some great ballads that aren't always given the respect they deserve---even by The Stones.

Kind of funny how songs that were first released as incentives for fans to buy old "new" Stones hit compilations like Forty Licks ( "Don't Stop") and Grrrrr ( "Doom & Gloom") are now counted as hits on new compilations.

Just glancing on the 3 cd Honk Deluxe Edition, it looks like Bitch, Dancing With Mr. D, Hot Stuff, Rock And A Hard Place, You Got Me Rocking, Out Of Tears, Saint Of Me, Out Of Control and Rain Fall Down did not appear on the GRRR! 3 cd edition.

If it’s the gaudy big letters thing with the tongue sticking out I don’t think it’s any better.
Their last good album cover was Voodoo Lounge.

Tidal does not currently offer any flavor of Grrr (But it does have "Made in the Shade" and "Jump Back").

As far as I can tell ATM, the same is true on Spotify.

Offering up the full HONK for streaming means some people are gonna stream all 36 songs instead of the 10 or 18 on "Shade" or JB.

And if "Grrr" was up for streaming, there'd be sharesies in effect with ABKCO, probably.

Both are genuine radio hits, "Doom and Gloom" reaching #30 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart and "Don't Stop" hitting #21 on Mainstream Rock Tracks in Billboard

Edit: The much-maligned cover for Blue And Lonesome looked classy to me.

Pre-ordered the deluxe vinyl through Music Vaultz. With 15% off and the CDN to USD conversion rate, came out to about $67.

Yes, but as they already appear on other Stone's compilations, their inclusion seems a bit superfluous in a way that the perennial and automatic inclusion of "Brown Sugar" and " Wild Horses" doesn't.

It's a greatest hits album, why are those two hits superfluous? I mean, why more so than others

Because most of the others are classics, the kind of tracks that make people want to buy these sorts of hits compilations. The other two, while decent enough examples of late-period Stones, were add-ons for the comps on which they first appeared.
But look, it's really no big deal. I just find it strange.

I mean, they weren't JUST add-ons (not in the same way I'd argue that the other new tracks on Forty Licks were), they had music videos and were played onstage a hell of a lot as well. People recognize those songs even if they aren't yet considered 'classic'

So this means it will be even longer untill we see a new studio album. Bummer.

Any info for the other dates for the live tracks on the bonus disc ?

Just wondering if there are any songs included from the no filter Euro tour 2017 ?

Not necessarily. Bands put out live albums or compilations and then produce new studio work soon thereafter.

I think "Honk" exists mainly to promote the upcoming concert tour. I wouldn't read anything else into it...

After the era of "genuine hits" stops (let's say, 1989, to be generous), then comes the era which is missing what makes hits hits: the universal or near-universal acclaim, consensus, ubiquity, and field-tested fondness. What happens after the "hit era" is a lot of songs the Stones tried hard to make into hits (by sheer force of will and videos and set-list inclusion and promo CDs) but didn't always succeed at.

You lose the across-the-board acclaim. And if someone is not particularly fond of the 2 "hits" off Grrrr, then that person is going to call them "superfluous". A more removed, less invested person might even say of the band "They're trying too hard (again)."

It was an interesting observation above that HONK is following the kinds of songs they've been performing live. If many more people have been buying tickets than CDs since 1997 (and they have), then they might listen to HONK and recognize/remember "Out of Control", "Doom and Gloom", etc. They may stay engaged and invested.

So HONK is many things: a big boutique vinyl drop; a "greatest hits" compilation for a world without universal radio; stadium concert merch that no one is too fat for; a compilation that is going to get some streaming action for the "lesser" numbers; an album for the generations that made it to, say, 2002 or 201x without ever having availed themselves of a Rolling Stones concert before.

Yes, see my post at the top of page 11. The live songs are mostly from the last two years of touring with a couple from 2013 and one from 2015

I still think my theory that they were originally going to include a few new tracks holds some water. I mean, there was a rumor that they were only going to make a few new tracks. I think that they reconsidered and are now going ahead with a complete album.

I don't think a song needs "across the board acclaim" to be a hit, but it needs to be popular across a pretty broad spectrum.

Maybe that's how you meant "across the board acclaim".

I just think that when we say "hey, 'Rock Up the Doodle-Bug' got to #33 on the Jazz-Polka chart", it's not really a hit. I tend to view only songs that hit the Hot 100 as "hits", not the ones that reside on the specialty charts...
