What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Path of Exile 2 is an Action RPG which is all about making powerful characters and getting epic loot. Finding the right balance for character builds, items and economy is crucial for this genre, and it cannot be achieved without showing the game in its current state to the community. We're launching Path of Exile 2 in Early Access to ensure the game delivers the best possible experience at release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“As long as needed. ”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are planning to add two more Acts, five more Classes and all corresponding Ascendancy classes, lots of skill gems and items, as well as more endgame content, areas, bosses and monsters.

We are planning to be adding content to roughly double the size of the current game during Early Access and into Release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Even in Early Access, Path of Exile 2 is a big game. It includes a significant campaign of Four Acts as well as a rich endgame. At the start of Early Access the game already includes dozens of bosses, and hundreds of monster types.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Once the game is out of Early Access, Path of Exile 2 will be free-to-play.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We need the community to give us feedback about game balance, the economy, and the overall game. We will be actively monitoring our forums, subreddit and social media and delivering updates continuously throughout the Early Access.”

If $30 is too much for you then get off your computer and go to work. This game is worth every penny. Blizzard and other companies would be charging way more and never touch what these developers put into their games.

If you have ever played Diablo or other ARPGs, I still think this is the best one out there.

I can't wait for Full Access and achievements. I played Path of Exile a lot on my steam deck. I haven't really tested this one on my steam deck yet but I will update my review after.

I don't recommend this game purely because of the support that is GGG. Bought the game a few months ago, but didn't really enjoy it at the time and refunded it. I only played for 48 minutes at that time. Bought it again at 50% off this weekend, tried to log in and my account was locked.

Contacted GGG support, they said it's locked because of an unauthorized refund and apparently this counts as stealing from them. I contact steam support, they confirm that the refund was legitimate and since the ban was a outside of steam and through GGG's system, they can't do much.

I contacted GGG support yet again and am met with silence.

If refunds through steam are counted as "unauthorized refunds" then perhaps you shouldn't have steam be able to issue refunds on your behalf.

If people are exploiting premium currency by buying the game and then refunding, maybe YOU should have some exploit fix in place and not punish innocent/unknowing players for this.

I am glad Steam has decent refund policies for instances like this.

Putting this negative review in response to GGG's Path of Exile 2 "sale" as I feel as though it's incredibly deceptive.

For the entire period of Early Access, this game requires a paid access (or a friend code). You need to basically purchase $30 worth of microtransactions to get access to this game. Today they finally put the game on 50% off but very sneakily swapped out $30 pack for a $15 pack, called it the exact same thing, and marked it at $30 with a 50% discount.

No, this is not a 50% discount on a $30 package, this is a new $15 package at full price.

Installed the game: “Wow, this looks incredible.”

Reached first boss: “Okay, cool mechanics.”

Died 14 times: “Fair enough.”

Opened the passive tree: “What in the doctoral thesis is this?”

Found a new weapon: +5% stun duration against enemies that are on fire during a lunar eclipse

My current build:

* emotionally compromised
* rolling constantly
* surviving on vibes
* somehow scaling poison, lightning, and regret simultaneously

Meanwhile the game: “You have insufficient spirit.”

Brother I have insufficient will to live.

Loot system:

* kill ancient horror from beyond reality
* receive: sandals

Every boss fight feels personal.
Every respec costs the GDP of a small nation.
Every veteran player explains mechanics like they’re teaching quantum physics.

And yet … After 6 straight hours of suffering:

* boss finally dies
* health bar at 1 pixel
* hands shaking
* garbage loot drops

10/10.
See you tomorrow.

Path of Exile 2 feels like getting dragged through a beautiful nightmare with pockets full of loot and poor life choices. The combat is weighty, the bosses hit like a truck carrying another truck, and every build idea turns into a 3am theorycraft spiral. It’s punishing, addictive, and somehow makes dying feel educational. If you enjoy dark fantasy, deep customization, and occasionally being humbled by a goatman with anger issues, this game is absolutely worth playing.

So much time and effort for such little reward it transcends frustration and spirals into brain melting hysteria.
The look of this game is likely it's only redeeming quality because its honestly great, they really managed to encompass the graphical fidelity that we always expected of Blizzard and it handles as well too. However where Diablo 4 felt too fast paced in order to get you to their end game grind, PoE 2 is the complete and total opposite and in the worst way. This game is SUCH A SLOG Act 2 was mentally AND physically draining and Act 3 has made me quit...twice (I've come back to PoE 2 - 4 times). You find yourself grinding for hours, going through mazes of these enormous sprawling maps that feel like they never end and the Vaal temples that take 45 minutes to an hour to complete and provide practically nothing, I just started skipping them by end of Act 3 I just didnt care anymore because I wasnt getting gear that was worth putting in the Vaal temple room upgrades. Also if you filled up most or all of the Vaal board layout it just goes on and on and on. You're just grinding for hours every day for orbs just to maybe upgrade and replace 1 piece of gear that maybe had 1 good modifier that you have to trade off for another good modifier. None of the gear ever feels well crafted enough for your character, oh look a melee skill modifier for my Sorc, or int mod for Warr.
The skills...yikes, I never hated the skills in PoE 1. I actually thought PoE 1 was a fun spin on the typical D4 playstyle I was used to at the time, but the skills in PoE 2 feel like an after thought that was rushed together. The skills really need a desperate overhaul, I used the same 2 sorc skills and 3 witch skills for practically 60% of the game. My favorite class to play is usually a minion build and Witches Minions + Lich build is closest, but it does NOT have the same feel.
This game is so mentally draining and gut wrenchingly unrewarding that I can't stand it anymore. I really want to play a good arpg dungeon looter, and today PoE 2 almost made me want to go back and play D4.
I'm out, I'll watch the new update on a stream but I can't see myself coming back in a couple weeks unless it really gets an overhaul on literally everything.

I usually feel like I'm too old for this game and completely lack the time or patience for it. Yet, I still end up jumping in every second season, and once I start, I can't put it down until I reach the endgame.

For me, the real fun is theorycrafting, testing out new builds, and farming items from absolute scratch. I don't really care about the crazy min-maxing in the deep endgame right now. This is by far the best game in the genre. The animations are clean and it is incredibly satisfying when a build finally comes together and the entire screen just explodes.

I've played every league since early access launched, and at this point the game has become genuinely exhausting.

The core issue is the campaign and early game. Replaying the same story from scratch every few months is simply not fun, and the early game does nothing to make that easier. Your character feels sluggish, enemies are overtuned for how little your skills do, and the whole thing drags in ways that feel more like friction than challenge. By the time you finally escape into the endgame, you've already resented the journey.

Not recommended, unless GGG fundamentally reconsiders the campaign-replay loop.

Simply the greatest ARPG of all time, and it's not even 1.0. The developers (Grinding Gear Games) are extremely communicative with the community, it's almost unmatched; and they certainly know what they are doing.

The game is absolutely beautiful and feels amazing. Controlling your character and the animations are super fluid. This game ruined most other games for me. Proceed with caution!

Level 40. Died in Hardcore mode to a bunch of invisible fireballs. They along with all the enemies had not had their models loaded on the screen, and were therefore invisible. So i did not see the stack of like 8 fireballs exploding on me.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pile of ♥♥♥♥ beta ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.
Second time I've died due to GGG's complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ programming.

Come a long way since 0.1 but the game's finally in a much better, and playable state. Not better than POE1 yet but maybe it'll get there one day.

Game is far to Slow and Campaign is stupidly long and extremely boring. Took over 3 hours to get to Act 3 where in in maps in POE1 within 2 hours. Devs even said in prior patches Campaign is mehh once we get people to maps and end game that's where we keep them. Zero movement skills in the game. Dodge mechanic is bad. I've tried every POE2 patch and League they have done and cant bare the slow movement and long Campaign.
